  • What a great vid....thx...!

  • Ahhh, finally found a version on here with the "dearest Marilyn" line......I always prefer the long version of songs. Something about 6, 7, 8 - minute songs, takes me back to the AOR days :)

  • Great version...thx

  • Wow, five people are complete idiots. Great video!

  • Great tune...slice a truth.

  • I was really surprised the first time I visited Hollywood. It's such a dump!

  • rosie! AWESOME ! ! ! Don't know if you live in the H'wood area. I've been there many many times. The last was in 1997 and she was laready looking like an old, tired, over-made-up dance hall girl at that time. Breaks my heart to see her now... :'( You did justice to a wonderful song... too bad the Golden Age is gone forever..... thanks!

  • @kcdiche Thanks so much for the comment. Yes, live near LA. "Celluloid Heroes" fits the state of things in Hollywood. Cheers! Rob

  • nice job, this is what I was looking for . . . thanks for making this!

  • thanks! I wanted to listen to the long version for some time, because of George Sanders...

  • I liked this video. Having walked down Hollywood Blvd a zillion times it was interesting to see what it looked like a few years ago. (I lived up Beachwood Canyon)

  • i liked this so much i farted

  • that's so sweet, hugging the little girl at the end of the video..awh..

  • fantasic Version thanks for upload.

  • Fantastic version - very poignant, kind of leaves a lump in my throat. Thanks for the up.

  • in those days, stars really earned their spot on HB. Today, they're more common than a cheesy prize from Cracker Jacks.

  • excellent take on a fantastic song tribute......

  • in my humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written by a human being. period. the lyrics and the music are beyond amazing.....

  • Very Good. This is a great piece of work. I worked in Hollywood for years and this brings me back! Now I just live and work in the suburbs and Hollywood will always be close to my heart. Thanks again!

  • Thank you...very well done. Best version of the song, none of that "greatest hits" remix nonsense.

  • thanks for this nice Video

  • Awesome video which meant so much to me I highlited it in my page comment for today, plz check it out. Thanks very much for bringing this song to life as perfectly as you did...well done!

  • @Markpmh Thanks so much, went to your page comment, cheers! Rob

  • Amazing! :))))

  • Nice video gentlemen! Excellent cinematography that's well paced for such a great tune... Thanks for posting!!

  • Very underated song.

  • great video ...great images...fantastic voice...have itchy feet...

  • my favourite kinks song and the whole thing, not short version, ta ever so, you have made an eccentric englishwoman very happy!

  • Truly a brilliant and timeless classic from The Kinks, and this long version ranks right up there with the live version for me.

Sad to see how seedy Hollywood Blvd has become in it's old age. It must have been quite the sight to see back in the glory days of the movies....

  • A like this version best. Nice smooth singing by genius R. Davies. A true masterpiece.

  • Never heard this version before. Only heard the live version off their popular Greatest Hits album in the late 70s. What is this version? Doesn't sound live.

  • @ShelterDogs This is from the Kinks Studio Album, 1972's "Everybody's In Show-Biz, Everybody's A Star"

  • @ShelterDogs The studio version is better anyway. The live versions cut out a verse and are just not the same in general.

  • nice in SOUND & VISION

  • This is just great. thank you so much for posting this on youtube

  • What a wonderful video thanks for this

  • Great job!! Thanks for uploading this. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. The lyrics are very poignant especially if you a movie fan (like me) and know all the people they are referring to in the song.. fantastic lyrics.

  • a great job on this video....one of the Kinks Best songs (Ray's)...Ray captured the enldess quest for fleeting fame for his generation...and it stands right up there...with all the rest before him!! Cheers! Ray.

  • The music back then was so much better than the music we have these days...

  • For Celluloid Heroes alone The Kinks deserve a Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, but of course there's so much more. Please join our Facebook group and help make it happen. We have videos, photos, discussions and lots more to come. On Facebook go to "A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame For The Kinks".

  • One of my favorite during the 90's, keep on listening and long to walk across the Hollywood boulevard, Lawm te toh ngaih lai ngaih huai na e.... (L) Roosvelt this one is for you......

  • Wow. That was really good.

    Thanks.

  • Does anyone have a Live version sung in its entirety? Ray always leaves out the verse that talksabout george Sanders...I have about 15 live TV performances and every one is missing that verse!!

  • @DavelovesRealMusic I don't think they have ever played the entire song in all the times I have seen them.

  • Well done indeed. Your imagery matches that which ran through my head when listening each time. The song came to me spontaneously yesterday afternoon. Alas, my copy is on vinyl in the closet.

  • Rob, you did a great job with this video! I can't believe I haven't seen it till now!

  • omg im so going there sometime and i will stay there >:D!!

  • Great footage!!! I love it

  • Totally agree with Danandvikki1 and the pause over Marion Davies star is poignant. Davies is best remembered for her relationship with newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, as her high-profile social life often obscured her professional career.

  • this was the first song from an american south jersyey girl. thanks ruth and irv. gianna, abraham and anna, me. ,Mum. we did din;t we? think about the kinks, anne. de la Mum

  • She wanted to be LEFT alone...

  • Outstanding job!!! You really captured the essense of this wonder song!!!!

  • great job love this song

  • a great place to live--i have lived here ten years now--it's not perfect--but now it's home

  • Wow. How Hollywood shaped and formed the character of California history hits me with a bang! Must be why I was born in North Hollywood and will die in California. You have all been fun!!!!!!!!

  • Hey guys..very nice job...as having lived and worked...and taken numerous visitors to Hollywood...this was a fantastic trip down the Blvd....One of my top faves from the Kinks....

  • yea kinks,,20 albums and "they" play 3 hits.Wake up america start with MUSSWELL HILLBILLIES.

  • Anyway. Mark Sandman's song "Patience"

was heavily influenced by Davies sentiment and work. I hope that some of you who are not familiar with Sandman's work will check out his first band, Treat Her Right, as well as "Morphine". Sadly, He lived his life like the Morphine song "Cure for Pain," and died onstage while performing in Rome years back. He has left a lingering and palpable loss here in the Boston and Cambridge music scene. Let me know what you think...

  • ik ben hier naartoe geweest is echt leuk

  • Well done! My kids liked it. Great production value.

  • A timeless classic. Thanks for posting this.

    Great video as well.

  • Haunting song. Good video, I enjoyed it, well done, May get there one day to see for myself.

  • i was just here with my family and i already miss it. everytime i stepped outside i thought of this incredible song. thanks for posting this! it brings me back.

  • We were walking those walks in January 2009........Thanks for the memories..................What a GREAT video:

  • Welcome to Southern California..... The stompng grounds of ME!

  • I used to listen to this on the LP. Loved this song and it made me aware of the Kinks. You can still visit many historical places in Hollywood, and some of them aren't even too scary, like the various cemeteries (ironically). Hollywood Blvd. entails stepping over meth heads laying on the sidewalk, at least when I was there a couple of years ago. But a very nice presentation of this song. Many thanks.

  • Wow!!! Thanks for such a superb posting. Everything you did is 1st class! Im 67 yo always wanted to get to see Hollywood but something always got in the way. Perhaps someday....

  • Superb song.

  • Damn...this song grasps me to my throat every time I hear it, tears spontaneously spring from my eyes. This song says it all about the shadowy side of stardom....

  • Comment removed

  • still so beautiful on both musical and emotional levels

  • What a marvelous video to one of my favorite pop songs.

Only Nathanael West in "The Day of the Locust" got Hollywood Boulevard as well as The Kinks.

I lived off and on the Boulevard as a teen between 1969 and 1971 and made my way on Selma and Cherokee near the old Golden Cup.

    Thanks for the video!

  • Thank you very much, you did me a great favor.

  • Nice job. I'm sure just what Mr. Davies had in mind when he wrote this masterpiece. Thanks.

    GOD SAVE THE KINKS!

  • Unbelievably (sp?) I have hummed this song since late 1978. I remember the DJ saying it was a tear-jerker...it is, but much

    more.

  • Well done. Well done. Very well done indeed!

  • Great song. It's one of my favorites.

  • Yup, it is a great! It really was a sunny afternoon! (when the kinks sat the scene)I wish my life was ......

  • Ahhhh

    The long version,

back when there was the 45 cut and then the un-cut or long version which was usually the album version, but not necessarily.

And of course the live recording would follow as success walked hand in hand with failure.

    (So always be on guard)

  • Such a great great song...I have always loved the Kinks...one of my favorite groups from the 60s only had seen them once in the mid 70s at Brooklyn College...nice place to have seen them...smaller venue...

as for the california connectionn in my life....i had lived there for a short time in the early 70s...was a grand expereince...glad i can stil put together thoughts!

  • Great job on the video. After I watched this I went and dug out all my Kinks albums from college. It seems like it was just yesterday.

I listened to Soap Opera and Preservation five times the other night I'm just glad for all the Kinks video on line. Thanks again.

  • Used to hang out on Sunset and Hollywood Bls in the late 60s. Almost lived at the Hollywood Palladium for the concerts. Mountain was LOUD!!

Got my first Alvin Lee shag haircut on Hollywood Bl in 1970.

Ach! The memories! Many thanks! A classic enhanced by video.

  • Man you Rock! I hope you never sold out.

  • wow - you did this yourself? Thanks for the effort!

  • yes, it was fun. I did not even have a camera person, just used a tripod. GSTK

  • Ex hippie and I am flashbacking. So cool.

  • Truly outstanding.

  • This version is the one I recognise, and it's better!

  • Very nice!!! I was there yesterday, And it sure has changed since i was a kid!! New York pizza still there though and the food is as great and the owner is as cranky as he was then! Thanks for adding this vid.

  • to me, the best song by the kinks

  • One of my very favourites! Great video

    Cheers

  • My favorite Brittish band, by far.

  • As timeless a song as there ever was. Many thanks for posting this version of a classic.

  • Great job editing man! I love this song.

  • This is excellent. The last music, the last moments I was with my dear friend, before he disappeared from earth.. so perfectly the same.

  • really outstanding job; this song always makes me want to cry

  • Thanks. This longer version is nice.
