As a huge football (soccer) fan here in England, I can't stress enough how amazing the thrill of promotion/relegation is. It's the best thing in the sport. MLS would be so much more exciting for North America with the idea of the dread of relegation, and loss of money and TV appearance, and the thrill of promotion, and playing against the countries biggest teams.

Two twenty team conferences is directly against FIFA rules because that's 40 teams in their eyes. They're not making exceptions for us, especially with all the crap Garber gave FIFA about "simulated" pro-rel.

What they need to do is keep it at 20 teams for a while. Build up the talent pool. Give some times for the teams academies to really get going and then implement any more expansion ideas and/or promotion/relegation system.

great stuff as always dwreck, ive thought about pro/relegation, and it never occured to me that you could do 2 20 team conferences.... kinda like the american and national league in baseball.... that would be great stuff for MLS

It sounds to me like MLS is trying to (a) make American soccer fans' brains hurt with this "simulated pro/rel," and (b) further piss off FIFA.
