  • Cool pic of Waylon Jennings behind Chet there in the studio ...

I'm trying to think how it could get better than that ...

  • @BLibertyValance Chet believed in Waylon when nobody else did. Gave him his first break.

  • Dug this stuff as a kid back in 1970, Jerrys album Me and Chet!

  • im at :26 and its already the best version ive ever heard. whoa!!!

  • Chet Atkins is the man!! Jerry Reed's not too shabby either!!

  • Liken dis since like 1970, still impressive!!

  • i heard they smoked a reefer... before they tried this..........

  • I have always loved Chet & Jerry's version and tried to play it myself, but I could never get it to sound right. Then this weekend I learned DADGAD tuning and bingo!, there it was. I still haven't learned all of Jerry's fancy lead, but I learned the signature lines and melody. I love learning from the masters.

  • Brilliance!

  • THIS IS REAL MUISC right here ......and they NEVER MAKE music this way anymore....its always OVERDONE and they just need to leave it be if it already sounds good who ever THEY is

  • Have this on a cd. Cool chords for playing!

  • I've heard that Jimmie Driftwood who wrote The Battle of New Orleans wrote Tennessee Stud.

  • God rest his fantastic soul

  • he's playing the same Baldwin gut string that he always has

  • Sounds like Jerry is playing a Classical too. Awesome!

  • jessupar you are correct that is waylon

  • Best version imo

  • This is a really good studio version, as Jerry and Chet were always great together. I prefer Doc's version, but simply as a matter of personal taste.

  • Back in the 60's I had Porter Wagoners version on 45. It was my favorite.

  • Nice clear vintage photo of Chet & Jerry in their younger days. Nobody had more fun at it than Jerry Reed. Him and Chet are both missed by all who love hearing great guitar work.

  • Thats not jerry in the picture... Its Waylon Jennings.

  • Jeepers!

  • Little known factoid: this song was written by Jimmy Driftwood. Chet produced and played guitar on original version, LP called "Newly Discovered American Folksongs" released about 1958. Driftwood also wrote "Battle of New Orleans" on that same LP.

  • Seems like Jerry was always making these little noises when he played, you know, like a little kid having so much fun with what comes so natural. Like he was not having to try to play at all.

    Gotta love it.

  • It's called "scatting." Jazz singers do it all the time.

  • shits on the other versions

  • Long and lean, not long and mean...

  • Great tune and yes that was Waylon in the pic

  • Whoa, dude! Beautiful!

  • Great rhythm, huh?

  • "Nashville Cats been playin' since they's babies

Nashville Cats get work before they're two"

    So said John Sebastian. ;-D

  • awesome tune. damn, these were great guitarists!!! rest in peace chet and jerry.

  • They were the absolute best!

  • thank you! fantastic! jerry was awesome.

  • This is the stuff, first heard it back like 71 and it's hard to be out done!!!!

  • Thom Bresh and Buster B. Jones are still alive, well, and carrying on the tradition.

  • That would be cool. But ol' Johny is pretty darn hard to impersonate.

  • the picture is not Jerry Reed; it's Carl Perkins

  • u'mmmmm looks like waylon jennings to me

  • Does anyone know if this song came out on an album??

  • No one could do it like Reed. There will never be another.

  • I can't imagine anyone will ever top this version of tenn stud

  • Rest in peace the both of you god bless the C.G.P.'s

  • Amen!

  • Tommy Emmanuel is the only CGP left :-(

  • Eddy Arnold only died there recently he was at a great age. I thought he died ages ago.

  • It's always been one of my favorites. I listen to it over and over and never get tired of it!

  • ... good god..... this is an amazing performance......

  • There is a few hundred more where that came from. I'm taking requests!

  • daffydoug,

On one of Chet`s albums, he played a song

called Liza and another was Meet Mr. Callaghan(spelling), Alice Blue Gown, Oh By Jingo and many more i can`t remember.

If your have those songs, i sure would

    appreciate your uploading them.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Maurieer, I do indeed have them all. I posted Liza a while back, just do a search. I also posted alice Blue Gown, a search will bring it up.

The other two that you mentioned I will get on for you....

  • Daffy if you can find an entire version of Jerry doing hallelujah I love her so (the Ray Charles song) I would appreciate it!
