I've been listening to this elegant woman all of my adult life. Aside from Streisand noone else quite lays back into a note the way she does it seems to me. And what a stylist, she gets right inside the lyric every time. I was so fortunate as a young singer to meet her @ the Hilton, Sydney in the 60's I think. So gracious.
From the first time I heard you when I was 16, you have ALWAYS been the only woman whose music REALLY touches me. I own almost everything you've done, and that's quite a bit.
When you look up the word class in the dictionary, it says: CLASS: adverb: Nancy Wilson adjective: Nancy Wilson. And for some reason which I can't explain, of the wealth of material you have done, this is the one.
you are all right nancy is priceless all of her music will never be matched by any singer she stands alone love you nancy thanks for all your music you are an angel.
I just lost a friend October the 25th 2011 and this song fits every thing that I'm feeling right now. and the last day of October we will bury him. so every time i hear this song. I'll think of him. thanks Ms. Wilson for a lovely song.

The marvelous Nancy Wilson! Her beautiful phrasing and expressions just makes you fall in love all over again! I agree, they need to play her more on the radio. The young people really need to hear a true artist...a living legend.
Nancy Wilson doesn't sing just notes, she sings feelings. She is singular and so very sophisticated. Her voice is like an old-fashioned eau-de-cologne or an expensive cigar. It's full of fragrance, symphony and hues that will stay with you close to your skin all day long. I can't understand why we don't hear her very often on the radio. I suppose mainstream radios are not interested in playing timeless, elegant music like this. Thank god we have youtube to make up for the good music,
I've never heard Nancy Wilson give anything but a stellar performance, and this is no exception. There is a four-part harmony a capella version of this song that is very beautiful too, although I don't know if it was ever recorded. As others have said, I've never heard a rendition of it that I didn't like. Each artist has a slightly different approach that is unique to him or her, and they've all been beautiful.
my friend loves this tune...reminds him of his mom that died from breast cancer when he was 18 y/o, her name was Barbra. Now, i can entirely relate as my mom died from OV cancer in October of 2007 after a 3.5 year fight. Her name was Nancy. Thanks for posting.
i expected to grow old with someone, but lost him, quite suddenly, on october 23, 2003. about a week later i heard this on a the radio one night. i had never heard the song before, and had never discovered nancy wilson...but this song, the lyrics, her phrasing...every time i hear it, it lets me embrace the loss and sadness that i have no other way of dealing with. and then i go on.
The song and singer . . a marriage of forces . . like the great love stories, Romeo and Juliette . . she buries herself deep inside one where tears begin and pour freely . . thank you Nancy, thank you Barry and thank you to Mrs Mercer who so loved her husband as to share him beyond the grave and continue to be touched by his spirit . .
I saw Manilow perform this in the original Paradise Cafe tour in which he introduced it by telling the story of how he got the lyrics from Mercer's widow. I am happy to say that I have yet to hear a version of this that I don't enjoy. Wilson's is beautiful.
Beautiful sounds like this deserve much more than a mere YouTube comment. Its like more than just listening to a song be sung, its like experiencing in listening what she experienced in life, in love, in loss in gain...this is a very spiritual song because she poured out the very essence of herself into this song where it can evoke memories just by closing your eyes and listening. You cant help by go back to some happy memorable time as a child...
Dedicated to ~ Our beloved mothers both of whom were sticken by breast-ovarian cancer(s).

Always with us in our hearts ~ We carry you in our hearts ~ Until that heavenly day in the end, when we will meet again, by the grace of Lord God. Amen.
@ilovesexilovenaked Yea, What I got from it was a woman hating to see another year go by, because she's getting old. It mentions how she sees the kids and how once she was one of them. So yeah when October goes it's another year gone and another year older. Its a very sad song, not a song you want to be singing when you're older. Hopefully none of us feel like this when we get older.
i forgot how wonderfully nancy wilson sings and phrases songs. just watched pbs' tribute to the boston pops and she brought me to tears. had to search for this cd again.
WHEN YOU PUT 2 GENIUS' TOGETHER, SUCH AS NANCY AND BARRY WITH JOHNNY MERCER THROWN IN YOU GET SOMETHING THAT ROCKS YOUR WORLD. THIS IS BY FAR MY MOST FAVORITE SONG IN THE WORLD.

Classic Nancy Wilson. Bittersweet, sad, such finality. She makes you feel the pain even when you're in a good mood.

The true 'Soul' singer. beyond the heart...deeper than that.
After all, if you are a musician, you learn your instrument.
What better instrument could you have but yourself?

Nancy Wilson singing lyrics by Johnny Mercer is an unbeatable combination. Also
shows that as a musician, Barry Manilow is not a lightweight.
