My wife's father was a prisoner here for 2.5 years, he was in the French Resistance and died in 2009 we are going to visit the camp in May.
He told us that the day before the Americans liberated the camp they tried to shoot as many prisoners as possible, and that he was flown back to Paris in a Flying Fortress aircraft hanging on to the rear gunner as the aircraft was so full.
He also witnessed Spanish prisoners killing each other which he found incredible given the already horrible conditions.

I've read one book written by a man who survived from Mauthausen.He was also a prisoner of Dachau and Gusen.The title of the book is ''Pięć lat kacetu'' written by S.Grzesiuk.It's in Polish language.This book is worth reading it,but it stays in your mind for a long time.And i've read all his memories.....he described everything so clearly so that i could imagine these terrible times....

I have visited this concentration camp before, its incredible. As for those in denial, even the hard core germans and austrians in denial over there have made these into what is like museums recording what occured. I just was read about this camp and cry....terrible what people got in those years. I was read that group of men were run away from that camp,after days SS said that all men who were run away are dead but they were wrong.....some men were alive and they have spoke about that camp and about one part of camp where all men must be only killed....war is over and i wish now people could be like friends to each other but people always find a way to not to be like that.....

But he told some 'anecdotes' : 1. when the son of the camp commander turned 14 he got a gun for his birthday with witch he got to shoot 14 prisonners he got to chose himself.
2. In a big christmastree one christmas they hang prisonners for christmasballs.

@SiggyStern Of course it was used on various sub-species, it was a highly efficient method of dispatch. I have a vast collection of B, and many different experimental 'dancing/yodelling' gases, from 1941-1944, it was not however (or any other method) ever used at Mauthausen.

My grandfather was killed there. He tried to start the resistance movement in Poland. Someone had betrayed him and was arrested by the Gestapo. He was finally imprisoned in Mauthausen. After half a year Germany sent a letter to my Grandmother, that may come to take his ashes. She loved him very much.

Mauthausen was a concentration camps especially for restistance fighters from all over Europe., It was the only concentration camp (not extermination camp) which had grade 3 (the worst), (Auschwitz had "only" 2), meaning that you had actually more chances to survive Auschwitz than Mauthausen. Most people "inmates" there (50 %) died of the combination of very very hard work and little food......

There is no proof that the Red Cross frequented any of the camps, they just once went to Therezin Concentration Camp in the Czech Republic in 1944 and left with an at best, superficial look into it's operation.

On top of that, just as many or even more Non-Jews where killed, and to this day both Jew and Non-Jew survivors alike testify to the same horrors and abuses.
I have been to Mauthausen personally. It's it one of the most emotional places I have ever been to. You can still smell burnt flesh in the walls, very stomach turning.

My wife's father was a prisoner here for 2.5 years, he was in the French Resistance and died in 2009 we are going to visit the camp in May.
He told us that the day before the Americans liberated the camp they tried to shoot as many prisoners as possible, and that he was flown back to Paris in a Flying Fortress aircraft hanging on to the rear gunner as the aircraft was so full.
He also witnessed Spanish prisoners killing each other which he found incredible given the already horrible conditions.

I've read one book written by a man who survived from Mauthausen.He was also a prisoner of Dachau and Gusen.The title of the book is ''Pięć lat kacetu'' written by S.Grzesiuk.It's in Polish language.This book is worth reading it,but it stays in your mind for a long time.And i've read all his memories.....he described everything so clearly so that i could imagine these terrible times....
How is that possible that one human can treat the other in such a cruel way?It's against the human nature.

I have visited this concentration camp before, its incredible. As for those in denial, even the hard core germans and austrians in denial over there have made these into what is like museums recording what occured. So you can either live a sad life knowing that you're just as much of a low life as Hitler or you can face the truth.

I just was read about this camp and cry....terrible what people got in those years. I was read that group of men were run away from that camp,after days SS said that all men who were run away are dead but they were wrong.....some men were alive and they have spoke about that camp and about one part of camp where all men must be only killed....war is over and i wish now people could be like friends to each other but people always find a way to not to be like that.....

Just saw an interview with a belgian surviver from the resistance who was at Mauthausen. Some things he didn't even wanted to talk about because it hurted to much. But he told some 'anecdotes' : 1. when the son of the camp commander turned 14 he got a gun for his birthday with witch he got to shoot 14 prisonners he got to chose himself.
2. In a big christmastree one christmas they hang prisonners for christmasballs.
That is what all we humans are capable off if we are not aware.

A beautiful facility. Much of the 'custom' detail was by personal order of Himmler.
Although it had undoubted potential as a 'processing plant'. Not a single Jude, or C3 Roma was expired at Mauthausen. To the contrary, a health spa, musical, and hobby facilities were provided, and wholesome living/healthy dietary choice regimes were actively promoted.
Fresh food was sourced locally, and the 'camp' had its' own rustic bakery & mill.

@SiggyStern I'm pleased to say that this was not the case, simply Jewish propaganda. The Mauthausen 'satellite facilities' unfortunately had problems with bacterial disease, this situation was worsened by the Jews lack of sound personal hygiene, and refusal to eat 'non-kosher' nutricious foods.

My grandfather was killed there. He tried to start the resistance movement in Poland. Someone had betrayed him and was arrested by the Gestapo. He was finally imprisoned in Mauthausen. After half a year Germany sent a letter to my Grandmother, that may come to take his ashes. She loved him very much.

What they also hide from you is the fact of these emaciated inmates at time of liberation is because the camps did not receive food in the last weeks of the war because supply lines collapsed as a result of allied bombings of civilian infrastructure.
That's the inconvenient truth.

Mauthausen was a concentration camps especially for restistance fighters from all over Europe., It was the only concentration camp (not extermination camp) which had grade 3 (the worst), (Auschwitz had "only" 2), meaning that you had actually more chances to survive Auschwitz than Mauthausen. Most people "inmates" there (50 %) died of the combination of very very hard work and little food......

Not a single concentration camp resident addressed a complaint with SS officers concerning "alleged" atrocities at the concentration camps. The "death" camps were routinely visited/inspected by the International Red Cross & operated within the guidelines of the Geneva Convention. The zionist swine were provided with food, shelter, showers, clothing, & medical care.

There is no proof that the Red Cross frequented any of the camps, they just once went to Therezin Concentration Camp in the Czech Republic in 1944 and left with an at best, superficial look into it's operation.
Also, most prisoners where civillians, who where not protected by the Geneva Convention untill part IV was ratified in 1949.
On top of that, just as many or even more Non-Jews where killed, and to this day both Jew and Non-Jew survivors alike testify to the same horrors and abuses.

I have been to Mauthausen personally. It's it one of the most emotional places I have ever been to. You can still smell burnt flesh in the walls, very stomach turning.

I find it rather strange that there was a camp built here! not far from here was Hitlers home when he lived in Linz. Also his parents house is in Linz. Is that just ironic?

How about the man in charge of Auschwitz, Rudolf Hoess, confessing to killing "two and a half million Jews"? Then there are the logs titled "Gas chamber", eye witness testimony of hundreds of survivors and Nazi soldiers. the existence of said gas chambers.

The Yad Vashem website now states that 20,000 people died at Mauthausen (none by gas), and 1.5 million (mainly Jews, again) at Auschwitz. the table was where they laid people for flogging with a long birchlike cane. also for the dying and the prisoners who had been experimented on;just waiting to be put into the ovens. i hope that helps.
