The whole idea of searching laptops is ridiculous.

Why?

If I have a broadband connection and a home PC with enough memory, I can simply copy an image of my laptop's hard disk to my home PC. Wipe the laptop's disk entirely clean (hell, I'll even overwrite the blank hard disk with zeroes!),

then I go through customs, check into my hotel, login to my home PC/server, and download my entire disk via sftp.

I've just completely circumvented customs! It didn't take long and it didn't cost one penny.
