  • This is still in my top 5 thomas the tank engine episodes, i wish we would have gotten it here in RS US form. There is something with this episode here espically that shows one of Ringos Best Narrations, thats why i was happy when i was able to get this on UK VHS to finally legitly own a copy.

  • Boco shouldn't be at Tidmouth but I can understand why they did it. Boco didn't really get enough screen time, season 2 still focused too much on season 1 characters, and they can't always center the stories on branch lines and quarries. This way, at least season 2 acknowledged that he existed. unlike later seasons. Everything post season 4 just doesn't seem to cut it for me.

  • My view is that Edward didn't have an accident in this episode. Quoting Gordon in Off The Rails, I view it more as "High Spirits" which "might happen to any engine"

  • Best, not make more episodes like that!

  • i´have a wish, an instrumental version of this episode

  • rkovision, what is a crank pin?

  • @51NAPA a bolt that holds siderods on I think

  • Truly Edward's greatest episode ever. The hero of the hour.

Duck: "Edward's BETTER than ANY of you!"

Can't really dispute that, mate. Especially after he risked wheel and side rod to bring the passengers home.

  • A Small Mistake I Saw...

At 4:17 Edwards Siderods Are Back On As He Backs Into The Shed.

  • Lol what is Boco doing at Tidmouth sheds? Doesn't he stay on the same line as Bill and Ben? And doesn't Duck run his own line along the coast?

  • @TheCustomechanic You're right about Boco, he shouldn't be at Tidmouth. But as for Duck, he did not have his branch line at this point, and was still working as a station pilot at Knapford.

  • Every day in any way, this season (especially this episode) is getting better.

  • never send a 4-4-0 to do a 4-6-2's job, amirite?

  • Chop Sticks

  • Uh I hate what SHIT entertainment have done Boco never apears and duck only made one cameo apperance!look on the bright side at least they cant change there personalities like edward, toby, thomas and even sir topham hatt I could go on but you have a life. (oh one other thing they forgott that henry didn't need speicail coal scince the flying kipper)

  • What a line at 0:35 "he should be preserved before it's too late"

  • BoCo's in Tidmouth Sheds?

  • so how is it he's having trouble pulling 3 small coaches but he's been able to pull 2 big coaches in earlier episodes

  • This is my all-time favorite Thomas episode. Good ol' Edward. This was during the time when the creators weren't lazy or became sellouts for CGI crap. This was a time where the creators cared very much for the trains and the people who enjoyed TTTE&F. I'm 21 and I still miss those days. Go 2 hell HiT!!!

  • @sportsguy1989 I coudent agree more HIT is the worst thing ever the storylines are samy and the new charecters I'm not even going to comment on HIT entertaiment? More like SHIT entertainment.

  • 3:30-4:05 Best..Song..EVAR!!!

  • I tried to watch Edward strikes out, only got half way through it. ITS BLOODY AWFUL!!!!!! I hate HiT.

  • theres a face in the window at 3:35 left side

  • 1:32 A Passanger wobbled in the Breakvan

  • Anyone noticed Restored footage from 2:49 to 3:13?

  • i think boco and duck were sticking up for edward because they are grateful because the engines thought duck was mean and edward said he wasnt and he stopped bill and ben from annoying boco how kind is that

  • @TheGregJr95 Plus Edward is just awesome. HiT ruined him and Toby.

  • @ScottishRails HIT ruined everybody.

  • @champbaka HiT didn't necessarily ruin everyone.. TFC's still in charge and throwing his weight around ( :P ), Edward's still wise and old (even if he can get a little cheeky from time to time, books or TV), Gordon's still pompous, James is still vain about his paint.. It's not really the company's fault that the series has grown lesser enjoyable for us diehard fans, if anything it's the combo of soccer mom's opinions and nagging that influences them to.. whatev. Episode's great, one of my faves

  • @Lightninging63 - True, true, Edward is still wiser than the other engines, pity they were all dumbed down. >.<

But what about Skarloey and Rheneas? In fact, Duncan is kinder nowdays.

  • This is a brilliant episode and that music where Edward struggles home suits Edward 100%.

  • Edward rules!

  • Anyone know where I can obtain the background music from 3:29 on? The part that starts at 3:37 is some of my favorite music in this series.

  • I think it's known as edward's 2nd theme.

  • The tune for the first 12 seconds is really nice.

  • Edward is my all time favorite

  • Comment removed

  • Undoubtedly my favourite episode. Ever since I was a child.

3:29 onwards: most uplifting moments in the whole series In my opinion

  • I heavily agree with you, it's the mixture of brilliantly composed music and Edward's exhausted expression and determination that sends a warm smile in my heart

  • i agree as well... what you described is exactly what makes this episode my favorite of the whole series!!

  • lol i love how at the end, boco is in the shed too

  • take a close look at the top of bill and ben's breakvans. there are finger prints on them. and at 3:36, there's a reflection of a dude in the window in front of his driver

  • The bus was giving visitors a tour of sodor?

  • Bertie's been cut out :S

  • why exactcally is this called "Edward's Exploit"? Even to this day, I have no idea.

  • Thomas The Tank Engine

  • one of the meanings of exploit is an act or deed, with a heroic nature. It refers to how Edward struggles and succeeds to get to the station even though he had an extreme mechanical failure.

  • edward had an adventure, exploit is another word for an adventure

  • This is Edward's first accident ever.

I can't believe that HIT Entertainment gave Edward another accident. This time Edward was off the rails.

They broke one of the rules in the Railway series: Edward should never be derailed.

  • Techincally, it's not an accident here. His side-rods and crank-pins did some major damage, but I wouldn't consider it an "accident".

  • @BladeLight52 What episode was that when Edward was derailed? I will then go to HIT HQ and BEHEAD them

  • @harz1994 It's titled, "Edward's Brass Band".

  • @BladeLight52

It really wasn't his fault, in my opinion. And, while I'm at it...they should've used the much larger Express coaches for this episode.

  • @BladeLight52

He wasn't derailed...he just had a crankshaft break. Going off the rails would be derailment.

  • @jason12901 he means in one of the later episodes

  • @BladeLight52 I never even really saw this as an accident, it was more 'high spirits' like Gordon said about jammed whistles and burst safety valves in Off the Rails, at least Edward was able to continue AND get the passengers home, proving his worth :)

  • @SilverAlchemist111 I also don't consider this an accident, well, not by Edward's fault any way. It seems more like an error on the part of the steamworks that last maintenanced Edward, since they used an inferior metal.

Then again I only consider accidents to be engines getting off the rails, colliding with things or getting covered with something (like snow, tar, hay, or even coal and/or rocks)

  • @MrJoeyWheeler Agreed, this is more of a breakdown than an accident.

Edward is the oldest engine of the entire team, and definitely the wisest, the most sensible and most level-headed, at least until HIT Entertainment got their hands on him and gave him a genuine accident and made him just old and a little scared of his age.

  • @BladeLight52 - Wait, call me stupid.

This counts as an accident? I thought this was a "high spirit."

Yeah. and I thought Toby was supposed to be accident-proof, too.

  • is that area when thomas

'bout to crashed into pile of snow?

    (0:04 - 0:11)

  • The bootlace man from 'james and the coaches' episode can be seen at 2:50!

something always goes wrong when he's on the train haha

  • his name in the RWS is jermiah jobling. They never metion it in the epsiode.

  • When I watch this episode I always want to open the window and yell, "LOOK AT THIS, HIT ENTERTAINMENT! THIS IS WHAT THOMAS SHOULD BE LIKE!" This is the best episode EVER, but it always makes me sad thinking of the new episodes which are an insult to the Railway Series, in my opinion...

  • I still think "A Close Shave" is a better episode, but I do think this is a close second.

This kept me on my seat once they took his side rods off. It was a unique idea that could happen to any train.

  • really in the railway sereis book the side rods acutally damged his arches and that was the reason they had to be taken off.

  • @dizeesls4eva I agree 110%! Hit needs to a) develop old characters like BoCo and Daisy, and b) Develop the new engines they introduce more. And, the names of the classic engines are perfect suiting English names, but Molly Dennis, Billy, Hank etc. have bad names. Neville is the only name I like, but he only appeared 4 times!

  • @dizeesls4eva same to me hit really needs to watch these

  • @dizeesls4eva U r Right. I bet all those people who like new set of episodes were paid by HIT Entertainment.

  • @dizeesls4eva this episode made me cry. because it's beautiful. the new episodes make me cry. because they suck.

  • @dizeesls4eva I agree...my childhood was slapped in the face the day I noticed they were making Thomas 3D computer animated.

  • @dizeesls4eva Yes. The originals and the books are so much better. My little brother prefers the old ones too; the CGI faces scare him.

I also agree with BladeLight. Edward's too careful and reliable to be derailed. It is, to quote Gordon, 'disgraceful.'

  • *gasp* They said shut up in a kids' show!

  • first time I've ever heard "shut up" in a TTTE show.

  • they say it at least 3 times before this episode too

  • Yes go Edward!

  • these old ones educate children about railways

they use the trum crank pin in this episode and say that old engines didnt have them!

  • In the original story, his entire left frame and splashers was battered from the crank pin slipping in a wheel slip. They also originally had the quote as "We've taken your side rods off. Now you're a 'single' like an old fashioned engine."

  • This short reminds me of The Little Engine that Could...

  • Definitely my favorite season AND episode. Thanks for having this online.

  • I know i wonder how Edward looked back then, anways all the old shows like Spongebob are just getting worse with new episodes.

  • "The old is better"-Mike.S.

  • What`s wrong with my last comment it`s all true

  • Edward reminds me of myself at times old (I`m 12),lanky,struggling with heavy objects

  • edward is cool :)

  • the camera movement at 2:35 is very Season 1 style

  • u dont know how many memories are coming bac to me right now, u know wot f**k the new series thier nuffin compared to the old ones i grew up with

  • Hell Yeah the new series can't beat the old school series!

  • the big engines don't understand that Edward actually helped build the North Western Railway

  • you can a tooth on edward mouth 2:06-2:10

  • Much better than the shit they churn out these days

  • to true

  • Yeah better than that High school musical shit.

  • High School Musical is the worst thing Disney Channel has ever thought up. Disney Channel sucks.

  • anything is better than that.

  • As you see Boco's mad face, it's the same as Daisy's face.

  • that's because some of BoCo's faces are Daisy's with the make-up removed.

  • and it moves when he moves his eyes

  • One of the best Edward story ever!

  • this is good i would recommend it
