I can feel the flatness of the English version just from the English version. They sound like they're reading their lines from a sheet of paper. The Japanese actors sound like they're living the lines.

Yeah, exactly. The inflections were so much more believable, even -without- subtitles, and that's saying something. Jonas is very wooden, and as the main character, that's a shame. The father's lines were also so over the top, but that's a little of voice/writing/acting though. ;P

I love the Japanese version! "BAKKA"! lol The English fell a bit flat to me, but it's Cyrus and Jonas, so eh. The animation is still spectacular though, even with the thin plot. Miyazaki is a lovely story teller.

Not even Netflix has this DVD currently out; However, if you are very determined to watch this then your best bet is to search for this movie in google as "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea torrent" and get it that way. Apparently there are a few decent cams out of it, but all in Japanese with no English subtitles, so you would also have to find the script or subtitles to the movie.

This is the only way I know of watching said movie though.

Another masterpiece by Miyazaki? The guy keeps trying to retire, but he cant dedicate himself to rest like he dedicates himself to his anime! Well, he loves his job, and he's good at it. And plus, we get the promise of another movie every year or two! He's certainly better than the assembly line Pixar has.

I just came back from Japan, and when I was there, every book store with a tv was playing this commercial, as in this version. lol the song was stuck in my head. The tv at home played the commercial really often too XD it was EVERYWHERE!

Really? I didn't hear this version. I always heard one with a little girl who sounded slightly older than this child (so maybe 9-10 ish). But I agree that this song was everywhere. It didn't help that my friends dragged me into a Ghibli-themed shop. 20 solid minutes of the same song.
