You can either (a) petition for a ballot measure to vote on the issue or (b) elect people who believe in the same things that you do to change the law. Maine had the legislature acknowledge gay marriage recently and in 2008, Californians decided to ban same sex marriage. In both cases, the people got to choose.

Some of these comments are just painfully ignorant. If you're against gay marriage cause of your beliefs, that's one thing, but being openly against gays in general just makes you a terrible person. If you think you can change you're sexuality by choice, then why don't you just become gay for a day. Just have sexual relations with a member of the same sex and like it. What's that, you can't do it? Exactly my point, so why would a gay person be able to change their sexuality by choice?
