oh man i wana go back to 78!! remember being really surprised (pleasantly!) when i bought this at the time - very different/brave album but the WHOLE band excel on this!
it galls me how much influence critics have over public opinion, especially considering how grossly WRONG they've been, time and time again. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath....just a few 70s-era rock giants who were completely derided by critics and whose music has stood up like Mt Rushmore over the ensuing decades. FUCK CRITICS!! Queen's music only appreciates with each passing year.
i have to say most of their best music is underrated either because of the meaning their displaying which isnt fully understood or their sound diffrentiations which change from time to time in the best suited era.but Queen is never gonna fxxxn die. i wonder what the critics will say to the music they hear from afar after this life? will they judge it skepticallyLOL
@kingMackson7-I bet, in retrospect, if that is even in their constitution, the critics would kick themselves for passing up Queen as merely a glam/ pop band, or whatever nonsense was going thru their limited heads! They just never gave Queen a chance.....they were too stupid to transcend their worldly prejudices, sit back, and hear the voice of God: Freddie!!! They were too caught up in Queen's appearance, the androgynous look, the name, & all the glitz.
The thunderbolt at the end was recorded by brian on a portable recorder and the funy thing is that the album's liner notes credit the thunderbolt to God.
There is a huge number of "hidden" gems in Queen's catalogue. And you can see from the people commenting below that novice fans miss them sometimes. How can you leave Queen II out of any ranking of the best Queen albums. That record is a complete jewelry set.
Oh, I'm not a novice fan, I hope at least. I now have nearly every album (unlike my last post here, few comments below) except News of The World and their newest album, but I won't buy that one (with Paul Rodgers). I indeed really like Queen II.
I can't settle the live argument but I can say with certainty that I have never even heard it on the radio ! This is a secret gem apparently which I believe could have sold a lot more copies of Jazz if it was circulated commercially. Nonetheless Fat bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race sold this album to people who couldn't get enough of We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions! Listening to this cut only reminds me of Les Paul's fingerwork, among others!
I was at their "News of the World" tour at the LA Forum (with bad seats), then I had 6th row center for "The Game" a couple of years later. Queen was as great in the floor seats as they were in the rafters. This band ruled!
Wow, i didnt get to the the News tour but I did see Jazz at the Forum in 78 nose bleed colonade...then the Game and Hot Space at the Forum...Always remember risking getting mugged in the parking lot on the way to the show by Inglewood's local queen "fans"...lol
This is my all time favorite Queen album and I have been onboard every since their very first ( yes I am that old ) . If I had to pick a second favorite ? Queen ~ A Night At The Opera.
I always loved when the new QUEEN albums, *before cd/dvd* was released, ya NEVER knew which direction they were headed, but ALWAYS down the road of rock.
a lot of people thought freddy wrote this song after a while of writers block he's expressing that the record company was always on his ass about making another song so if you listen to the lyrics you can knida understand that
They played there in November 1978 (not October) but if you're telling the truth, you're a lucky guy because that would probably be the ONLY performance of this song live. The song was never included in any of their setlists and was widely considered to be one of their best numbers to be never performed live. If they really did (there are no recordings of that particular show) that would probably be their first and last attempt...
I do consider myself to be a lucky guy just to have been at queen concert is an honor to me. By the way you must be a queen encyclopedia because you are right about the concert been in november.
There are couple of websites where you can find all the tour dates, setlists and detailed descriptions of virtually all Queen shows they've ever played. Queen's concertography has to be among the most well-documented around. But not good enough it seems, since no one could recall "Dead on time" ever being played. Even Wikipedia states so. Quote: "it was considered by most fans to be an ideal live number, but was curiously never played in concert"...
my friend told me this album sucks and he usually knows what he's talking about. i almost never got around to hearing this album because of him.lol love this one.
hot space is great, its alright for a band to change there style as long as there still producing kick ass music, plus without hot space we wouldnt have under pressure and las parablos de lamour which are both great songs,
