  • That's a whole new meaning to the phrase "making sawdust."

  • Well Done, Awesome Work !!!! :D

  • How did you preserve the log to keep it from cracking. How long was the tree down?

  • wish i could afford a lathe that big and had a floor to support it

  • trying to turn a drum outboard with s floor stand steady rest will be deadly. The rest must be solidly anchored . Any slippage will cause big problems. You might try building a bed extension on the outboard side to hold the rest. Good luck and be careful.

  • awesome! great drum! i just hauled a huge log up to my house today and plan on making a drum out of it. i was going to start shaping it with a chainsaw then switch to a lathe. im buying a shopmaster (really old one!) and i was going to modify it to turn large (16-20") diameter outboard. have you ever seen a steady rest that sits on the floor? im thinking i may need something like that.

  • im wondering how much you would charge some one to make them a drum just like this but with a 12" top insted of 14... ill send you a msg with my info...

  • Blair, you amaze me! That is one hell of a tree trunk, and your lathe handles it so well. Definitely kept my attention through the entire video. Thanks!

  • That was AWESOME!!!

I also play the djembe and I was thinking of making my own custom Drum!

    You're the MAN!!

    Thanks!!

  • Great piece & lathe. Did you make your own hook tool? would love to see the finished product.

  • Your work is incredible beautifull!! do you know if somebody can make a djembé for me in Buenos Aires?

    Thanks a lott!!

  • Absolutely awesome, your one crazy dude to stand in front of that 200 lbs. of wood. I love it! Nice lathe, great work. Fellow drum maker. Cliff

  • that's one nice lathe :)

  • Awesome job Blair!

Sam the finisher @ The Woodworking Shows

  • Glad you found it. They are fun to do, but pretty physically demanding with the 4 foot tool. Good luck on the show circuit.

  • Im a Traditional Djembe maker and WOW! you did a great job! How or Where would I Strat to make a Djembe this way?

  • Unfortunately, it takes a very large lathe to start: which can be very expensive. It also requires a fair amount of turning experience before taking on such large work. I suggest you try to find some wood turners in your area for advise. Where are you?

  • This was fascinating to watch!

Thanks for making this little film so we all can appreciate the amount of work and artistry that goes into woodturning!

  • nice job man

  • very cool sean all his videos. like to meet him.nice setup
