its considered more dangerous for cars to come to a halt under red flag as cars coming around the track at the back of the field who may not have gotten red flags from the marshalls posts they passed can suddenly come upon middle pack cars stopped in the middle of the track. Yellow flag - slow down danger no over taking - red flag race stopped - reduce speed to pace car velocity and return slowly to pits.

i have been a race driver since just after most flags came into standard use yellow flag, theres allsorts of different ways to alert drivers to cautions yellow flag, you still go race speed unless theres a pace car or youre told something over the radio, red flag there should be ample marshalls placed in all areas at appropriate distance around the circuit secondly youd know very quick when cars are slow believe me! 3rd most straights you or i certainly on our tracks were going 40, 60 mph ive

seen what youre talking about happen before but thats only on very fast curving sections sometimes youd catch a flash but thats easier said than done when youre chasing someone down concentrating more on reference points and braking and corner entry and exit. fuck what people say about exits more important, if youre good enough and fast enough well a pro?! then you should make everything work in the whole corner.

I see. But the rationale of a red flag is to allow emergency vehicles to roll into the track immediately.

Years ago, at Sebring International, someone didn't stop on track (in that series, red means stop on track), and collided with an ambulance.....dead :(

not every marshal has a radio and what was wrong with the response times they ran to the car quickly check him and called for medical

Why don't they have radios? The cost too high? Why do the marshals make the decision as to who needs medical attention.. Any one who hits that hard needs a doctor on the scene not some volunteer corner worker. If the sanctioning body can't afford the best care then shut the race down.

RESCUE units(with a doctor or paramedic aboard) are normaly less than 30 seconds away and marshals know basic first aid untill doctors arrive. i've seen cars hit harder than that and drivers walk away looking pissed but walking away

I guess your right it just seemed like a long time when I watched it at first. I drove Top Fuel in the US and have the burn scars to prove it. I spent 9 weeks in the burn ward all because the fire marshall used up his bottle putting the engine fire out. I'm a little touchy about racing saftey. I meant no disrespect, sorry.

it's ok and probs a bit biased because i want to be a marshal(in england) but i've seen some very bad reactions from marshals on vids at road atlanta and Ralf Schumacher's F1 2004 USA Crash

Thanks and best of luck to ya. It's much harder to secure a road course. Drag strips are fairly easy (being only about 3/4 of a mile long.) I have never understood why the racers in road courses drive to the pits on a red flag. Seems to me they should stop in place if the crash site is between them and the pits. In this vid you can see the rescue trucks waiting for the racers to pass. Maybe you can fix that. peace..

I was at the chicane at the race, rob austin and stuart ellis crashed side on and went different directions, ellis was unlucky and smashed into the marshalls post and the car tore to shreds. Rob Austin went all over the grass and back on at the chicane. It was definatly rob austins fault because stewart ellis was driving his normal line and rob austin smashed into him!!

I agree with the comments above that these posts sound very biast, it's sad to see that there are people out there in motorsport with such bad attitudes. Rob Austin is a fantastic driver with a great reputation to go with it, I think these people should think twice before making judgement on someone they dont even know & if these comments were true why was it confirmed as a racing incident? & would he still be running a busy & VERY successful team with lots of customers? dont think so!!!

The white car was clearly as far to the left as he could be, how is it his fault? These post's sound very biast to me... and what happened in the pit lane sounds like typical RPM behaviour, probably one of the reasons they have no customers this year and rob does, like you say Karma!

This sort of stuff always happens when amatures like Bradley are let loose in cars beyond their ability though, i've seen it ten's of times.

I suggest you don't judge those who you do not know... It's not a threat (though you'll probably take it as one) but I really do think Rob would NEVER do anything to hurt anyone, not like this. Rob is a fantastic driver and a bloody nice bloke.

I was stood behind the fence at the top of Woodham Hill to the right of the BARC members stand. I saw the whole incident from front on. In my opinion Mr Austin reacted like a petulant child to a valid blocking move by Bradley heading for the Club chicane breaking zone. Rob deliberatley toe poked Bradley, but to be fair I don't think anyone expected quite what happened next! . It was a real shocker that's for sure. I'd say it was a case of red mist rather than malice on Robs part to be fair.

erm, Robin didnt damage Rob's car... he pulled off the white duct tape the team had put on to cover up the black paint that had rubbed off from Ellis' car, and he took pictures.

and i can back choxl8s4me up, i was actually stood there when rob austin said something to the tune of "if you dont (do whatever it is he wanted him to do) i guess ill have to make sure you dont finish your race" and walked off... ellis just laughed.

the horrible thing about this "accident" is that Rob Austin knew exactly what he was doing. He comments in his interview that "Bradley fired him self off" does any one believe this creep? didnt think so!

Just before this race Rob Austin made some very co-incidental threats.

I hope that karma gets to Rob soon as he is an evil, nasty and viscious character.

I am so happy that Bradley Ellis made a full recovery, good luck in your future Brad!

Your wrong... do you even know the full story RPM Boss Robin Mortimer started making threats to Rob after the crash and Purposfly damaging Robs car... I saw the crash and if anything i'll say it was a racing incident!!

I was standing there watching that. Biggest crash i have ever seen. He went 8 foot in the air. A guy hit that marshells post a few years ago and got killed.
