I went to Disneyland today and talke to the one of the cast members as I rode the monorail he was saying that rumor has it Disney has big plans for the people mover track (or what's left of it) he said either A: they bring back the original people mover with a whole new look or B: they convert the people mover into a TRON EVOLUTION based attraction now again he said these are just rumors not the truth people do not start freaking out or criticizing thanks :-)
I loved this ride, stupid people who own Disney now don't know what the freak they are doing! People even to this day I'm sure would love this ride, just update it a little and things would be fine. Nothings even replaced this area yet even, why not bring it back?
The ride system would be gyro balls placed inside the track which spin 360º and all the cars are connected so it won't change speeds and people can't be run over. If you wish to see the track layout please check my Facebook page out: PhineasThe HitchHiking Ghosty. ºoº <-Mickey Mouse
@pedrokingdomhearts The Circle Vision Theater. It was a large mural made by Mary Blair (the same lady who designed it's a small world). The mural depicted how our children are our future or something. This mural, along with the rest of Tomorrowland, was torn down in the late 90's and reopened in 1998 as "The New Tomorrowland".
@GTAMseries People are always making a huge deal out of Disneyland deaths. Yes, it's tragic that people die on vacation, while they're supposed to be having fun, but really, how many people ACTUALLY died from the People Mover? Two. Yet it seems that all I see i that so many people died that it was shut down and the massive amount of deaths caused the nickname "People ReMover". So yes, this ride killed two people, who weren't following rules and tried to jump between cars.
The track is still there but they closed it because two people died on the ride because they both tried climbing into the other cars and slipped. They were both crushed to death:(
@isnormalityareality, it was closed a longgg time ago. it was in Disneyland. Disney World is in Florida. If you go to Disneyland, you can still see the track.
@sideslide23, that might be hard though because the track goes over head. so they'll need to shut down parts of the park while they remove it. i don't know. we'll see.
TRON was probably my favourite part of the ride. Even though, I noticed this ride only moved at 2mph. It brings me back, but the fact that 2 people died on this ride isn't the parks fault. The 2 that died tried to jump between two people mover cars. I mean how smart is that? They tell you to stay inside the vehicle at all times. That doesn't mean go to a different car, that means stay on the vehicle you were originally in!
I can't help but agree with Delilah jo3, anyone who has been at any amusement park can witness the brainless doing extacly what instructions absolutely tell you not to do. Then folks always asks if the incident could have been prevented on the park's behalf. It's no wonder why half of the family owned amusement parks closed due to insurance obligations. You'd have to be the size of the magic kingdom to incur the loss involved with other people's stupidity.
A few weeks ago I was passing by a tunnel that the People Mover moved through and I swear I heard some noises coming from there. It sounded a lot like an engine, too, but the engine is the track on the People Mover, so I don't think they were doing anything with it... :U
Wow - that really takes me back, thank you for sharing your home movie! I don't remember the Tron part in the tunnel... when I grew up I had a vague recollection of dirtbikes racing past you in there. Very cool video
Sad that when one or two people do something stupid we all have to pay the price. Hundreds of thousands have ridden the people mover without a problem. Its like the kid in the class who screws up and the whole class gets punished mentality that still exists today.
they removed cuz many people died, like ricky lee yama he got crushed by jumping from car to car and he missed one, and he fell on the track and the cars crushed him..... I FEEL SOOOO BAD FOR HIM!
they remove the ride because its so deadly some people on like 19's idk only i rembered was ricky lee who lived hawthrone CA thats where i live too but he fell on track and crushed poor ricky :( that people died O_O you will die if you move to another seat and falled to death or crushed D:
they remove the ride because its so deadly some people on like 19's idk only i rembered was ricky lee who lived hawthrone CA thats where i live too but he fell on track and crushed poor ricky :(
@jo951000 i know! its crazy! what a waste of an hour at disneyland! think of all the rides you could go to in that time! i only get guilted into it by my much younger siblings and im tapping my foot the whole time lol
They should just bring this ride back as it was, Rocket Rods was a disaster, the track is still just sitting there as an eye sore. Just update it a little bit with some modern touch ups and it could be a nice family ride again
I have never been to disneyland but, I kind of like disney worlds better by watching the two videos. (not by much). Also, I'm more of a Disney world person. I really wish I could have gone on this one. :(
I miss the People Mover and the Skyway. This is the kind of stuff I grew up with, and Tomorrowland just isn't the same without it. It lacks... something.
Disneyland back then looked so 60's,like it was meant to be.It looks that Disneyland has been going downhill since they removed people mover the super speed ride and mission mars.also what about that ride that takes you to the white mountain?what is that one called?
@WaddleBuff What?! I thought that Mission Mars was transformed into Pizza Port. I know that is called Matterhorn Mountain I just didn't knew how to spell it.
@nemesis962074 Right! Mission to Mars was closed at Disneyland on November 2, 1992. The building remained unused until it officially reopened as a restaurant, Redd Rockett's Pizza Port in Tomorrowland on May 22, 1998.
@nemesis962074 OMG sorry. I thought you were talking about the Mission Mars where you go into a ship and you control it and it's 3-D and stuff. lol. I didn't know the white ship thing is called Mission Mars too!
@WaddleBuff WRONG! Mission to Mars WAS in Disneyland. The attraction was originally named Flight to the Moon and it opened in 1955 along with Disneyland. In 1975, the attraction was changed to Mission to Mars because humans had already been to the moon.
@brownout75 Nope. You went over the building at 2:24, right after going through the Captain EO waiting area. And back then it was an attraction called Mission to Mars. It was replaced by Pizza Port in 1998. It's sad how an attraction had to become a restaurant.
@disneylandbiggestfan No. My friend who works for TDA told me the tracks are being planned to be demolished. If the plans go through the PeopleMover ain't comin' back. It's been rumored they are destroying the tracks in the Star Tours building right now. Only time will tell.
Man, i wish the construction in DCA was over, so they could start working on things people care about. As soon as they "fix" disney('s) california adventure, they need to bring back the people mover. or at least put SOMETHING there, instead of leaving the tracks to get dirty w/ leaves and mold and garbage. then they can work on the Imagination pavilion in Epcot
its mind blowing that 2 kids got killed by this slow ass moving cars of the people mover,, the peoplemover goes so damm slow,, its a trip how anyone can get runover and crushed by such a slow ass moving snail
@JOKAWILD26 some idiotic teens were being stupid and only jumped when the car would get close. because teens aren't going to jump if they aren't going to die. they felt if they jumped right when the car was close, it would add to the intensity and danger, thus adding more fun for them. they were playing with death and would do it for the thrill. i guess Big Thunder Mountain wasn't enough thrill.
It was announced at Destination D (at the Disneyland Hotel) that the PeopleMover will not return due to California State Laws and OSHA's regulations. For me this means I will never fulfill my dream of riding it at Disneyland.
@Benstudio13 The PeopleMover will not return AS IT WAS. A new version can be built that follows all regulations and laws. Bringing the old one back isn't futuristic anymore. It would need to be changed anyway. I'm hoping for the new version getting a green light. :)
@Benstudio13 Right! Cal OSHA regs meant that in order for the Peoplemover to be compliant (safe) Disney would have to spend a ton of money rennovating the old ride to make it so. Disney didn't want to spend the cash, so the idea of bringing them back was scrapped.
@FierceSandy In 2000, Disneyland replaced both existing Autopia tracks with a new, much larger Autopia sponsored by Chevron. The colorful Chevrolet Corvette Stingray-style cars were replaced by three different kinds of cars: Dusty, an off-road style car; Sparky, a sports car; and Suzy, a Volkswagen Beetle-style car.
I swear there used to be two separate Autopias when I was a kid, then they combined them into one super-Autopia and did a major remodel and added Chevron stuff all over. Did I dream that or did that really happen? If it really happened, then yeah, Autopia had a major remodel as well.
@saveferris55 Not true. Autopia has undergone many additions and tranformations since it first opened in 1955. In 2000, Disneyland replaced both existing Autopia tracks with a new, much larger Autopia.
What a cool ride! You can still see the track everywhere. You know I wish I was alive when this ride, the skyway, and the old submarine were in disneyland (well I was a baby).
There is a Facebook page called BRING THE PEOPLEMOVER BACK TO DISNEY LAND. Please type it into the search engine at the top of Facebook and join it! There is also a petition on it! :)
P.S. We apologize that we spelled Disneyland as "Disney Land." Facebook doesn't allow users to create pages with copyrighted names in them, so we had to work around it ;). Thanks!
@PeopleMoverBack the people mover is still there im not trying to be rude but the reason they closed it is because it would ruin some of the rides it would ride through like buzz lightyear and ect. but the tracks are still at the park above the walkway from main street to space moutain they simply do not open it back up because of the new rides.
so let me get this right, two people try to jump from train to train and get pinched and the ride gets eliminated. totally agree with some comments stating that it was a good way to relax for a little while, not leaving out the fact that it helped with the congestion of the crowd. good ride, sucks that it is gone. what happens when somebody jumps from the parking lot trams and gets hurt?
Disneys been talking about reopening the people mover. But do to do, they would have to redo the track to meet modern safety standards.. The emergency walkways about 3 inches short of the new standard (prop beacuse of BIGGER people. they would also have to build all brand new cars and refurbish evrything else. I think disney will do it!
I can tell this video was taken during the last days of the Peoplemover. I noticed that the Mission to Mars building had no sign on it. An interesting fact is that the Mission to Mars part of the speil was removed from the Peoplemover when it closed in 1992.
Update: As part of the renovation of star tours and the track being unused for 10 years. Disney has confermed the removal of the remaining ride structure of the rocket jets platform and people mover track.
This video brought back a lot of memories. I used to work on that ride when it was still open. It's kinda funny, near the end when they're entering Circle Vision, the girl was asking if there were any hidden cameras on the ride. Yup, there were cameras but they weren't hidden. On slow nights couples would ride it all alone...we got toe see some VERY INTERESTING videos on slow nights.
cool vid. Watching this, and being a kid in the early 80's I always wondered why there was no tron ride. Could have been awsome. they should definatly bring this back.
Im so sad now. IM only 1.3. but I havent been on o many ride that are now closed, like this one and Rocket Rod, even thought I hear its crap and the Skyway. Man I wish I could of gone on them!
@mikejulie4 - Actually, they've built over some of the track with some of the newer attractions and refurbishments... I wish they'd bring it back, too, though.
so that was how the starcade look like! me and my sister has always wonder how the upstairs arcade looked like before they removed it and made it the storage for the airship
i could imagine a really neat attraction for that space. take out the arcade complete and turn that space into an attraction of some sort!
I absolutely LOVED this attraction. I remembered how my sister and mom would want to ride Space Mountain. Because Space Mountain gave me headaches (I had epilepsy) , I would ride the Peoplemover solo. I surely hope they consider bringing this ride back. It just isn't Disneyland without it. Thank you Park Hopper for this video. I truly appreciate it! :)
P.S. During the 1994-95 season, we all had the Disneyland Passes. :)
Every time the America Sings building is on camera, I can't take my eyes off of it. It's just sad that they had to abandon it.
In fact, it's sad for me just to see the Peoplemover, the Skyway, the Rocket Jets, The Circle Vision, the Submarine Voyage and the original Autopia in here too!
Thanks... that was nice. This is the Disneyland I remember from my childhood. They should totally bring this back... it was a relaxing way to spend 10-15 minutes, after hours of walking and standing in lines around the park.
@padres89 It would seem that way for now, but i'm not that positive that information is correct. Talk to Goldiney to find out more info on the new attraction. :)
forgot to ask if anyone knows the name of the various theme songs on the peoplemover. they use it on the autopia now as background music, it was also used in the queue for the old superstar limo ride at DCA. i want to have that music played at my funeral. you just cant be sad when you hear those themes. my friend used to call it "coffee achiever music" because it sounded like a 1960s coffee commercial. i'd love to see an orchestra play the songs live. it's part of my childhood soundtrack.
the peoplemover track has be unused for 10 years! shame! walt would be pissed! he wanted his tomorrowland to be a world on the move. to remove both the peoplemover and skyway were the worst decisions of the 1990s. the rocket rods failed miserablely, and no one seemed to care. what a waste of money.
It was said that girls with long blone hair had the feeling of their hair being violently pulled while on the ride. This is supposedly linked to the death of a boy who fell off the ride and while falling tried to grap hold of his girlfriends' blonde hair before he died... I'm skeptical about the story but you never know...
@jaco2083 yeah... But I question how that happened. I mean. Was it just them? Or were they doing it to save their lives? I'm too scared to look it up any further...
@huzzahandhello The teenagers that died on the People Mover died goofing off. It was a game to climb from cart to cart and they both fell and were crushed.
@DelilahJo3 the reason ppl die on costers and rides is beacuase there stupid!! they clearly say"keep arms ffeet and legs inside the ride be sure to watch your kids have a zip-a-dee-doo0dah day
@gr13340 I didn't say they weren't stupid. I said they were goofing off. If they were goofing off in a non-stupid way, they wouldn't have been killed.
@DelilahJo3 yea but if ur goofing off like this in a STUPID stunt that could take away ur life it makes the people STUPID! stupid is stupid does!! they clearly are stupid and they did something stupid!! stupid=lack of commonsense!! therefore these 2 people are stupid or idiots i prefer with any!! who agrees?

@JOKAWILD26 They were being jackasses.
Costerguy1234556 1 year ago
@JOKAWILD26 some idiotic teens were being stupid and only jumped when the car would get close. because teens aren't going to jump if they aren't going to die. they felt if they jumped right when the car was close, it would add to the intensity and danger, thus adding more fun for them. they were playing with death and would do it for the thrill. i guess Big Thunder Mountain wasn't enough thrill.

I liked the slow paced relaxing ride.. Rocketrods sucked, I went 2x during its run and both times it was breaking down. Bring back the people mover.

It was announced at Destination D (at the Disneyland Hotel) that the PeopleMover will not return due to California State Laws and OSHA's regulations. For me this means I will never fulfill my dream of riding it at Disneyland.
Benstudio13 1 year ago
@Benstudio13 The PeopleMover will not return AS IT WAS. A new version can be built that follows all regulations and laws. Bringing the old one back isn't futuristic anymore. It would need to be changed anyway. I'm hoping for the new version getting a green light. :)
TheQue 1 year ago
@Benstudio13 Right! Cal OSHA regs meant that in order for the Peoplemover to be compliant (safe) Disney would have to spend a ton of money rennovating the old ride to make it so. Disney didn't want to spend the cash, so the idea of bringing them back was scrapped.

@saveferris55 i think it would be cool if they would get new cars for autopia.
FierceSandy 1 year ago
@FierceSandy yeah, you would think that in the future they would stop using gas to power vehicles, the autopia should be electric and non-stinky
jar0fdirt63 1 year ago
@FierceSandy In 2000, Disneyland replaced both existing Autopia tracks with a new, much larger Autopia sponsored by Chevron. The colorful Chevrolet Corvette Stingray-style cars were replaced by three different kinds of cars: Dusty, an off-road style car; Sparky, a sports car; and Suzy, a Volkswagen Beetle-style car.
misterlaff 5 days ago
@saveferris55
I swear there used to be two separate Autopias when I was a kid, then they combined them into one super-Autopia and did a major remodel and added Chevron stuff all over. Did I dream that or did that really happen? If it really happened, then yeah, Autopia had a major remodel as well.
Philious 1 year ago
@Philious Yes that all happened. The Fantasyland and Tomorrowland Autopias were combined to make the Chevron autopia some point in the 90s.
Benstudio13 1 year ago
@Philious You are correct. There used to be a "Midget Autopia" later changed to "Junior Autopia".
misterlaff 5 days ago
@saveferris55 Not true. Autopia has undergone many additions and tranformations since it first opened in 1955. In 2000, Disneyland replaced both existing Autopia tracks with a new, much larger Autopia.

Whats that giant room at 8:15? It looks like where Buzz is now, but what was it then?

@lake122 That was Circle Vision 360. It was a movie that was shown in 360 degrees all around you. It was pretty cool...miss that too.

Thanks!
PeopleMoverBack 1 year ago
@PeopleMoverBack the people mover is still there im not trying to be rude but the reason they closed it is because it would ruin some of the rides it would ride through like buzz lightyear and ect. but the tracks are still at the park above the walkway from main street to space moutain they simply do not open it back up because of the new rides.

HDMrWatterBottle 1 year ago
so let me get this right, two people try to jump from train to train and get pinched and the ride gets eliminated. totally agree with some comments stating that it was a good way to relax for a little while, not leaving out the fact that it helped with the congestion of the crowd. good ride, sucks that it is gone. what happens when somebody jumps from the parking lot trams and gets hurt?
vegasjinx 1 year ago
Disneys been talking about reopening the people mover. But do to do, they would have to redo the track to meet modern safety standards.. The emergency walkways about 3 inches short of the new standard (prop beacuse of BIGGER people. they would also have to build all brand new cars and refurbish evrything else. I think disney will do it!
cfinch820 1 year ago
I can tell this video was taken during the last days of the Peoplemover. I noticed that the Mission to Mars building had no sign on it. An interesting fact is that the Mission to Mars part of the speil was removed from the Peoplemover when it closed in 1992.

@ADbowling2000 when? and where did you hear that, I can't find it anywhere that Disney said that.

This video brought back a lot of memories. I used to work on that ride when it was still open. It's kinda funny, near the end when they're entering Circle Vision, the girl was asking if there were any hidden cameras on the ride. Yup, there were cameras but they weren't hidden. On slow nights couples would ride it all alone...we got toe see some VERY INTERESTING videos on slow nights.

i could imagine a really neat attraction for that space. take out the arcade complete and turn that space into an attraction of some sort!

forgot to ask if anyone knows the name of the various theme songs on the peoplemover. they use it on the autopia now as background music, it was also used in the queue for the old superstar limo ride at DCA. i want to have that music played at my funeral. you just cant be sad when you hear those themes. my friend used to call it "coffee achiever music" because it sounded like a 1960s coffee commercial. i'd love to see an orchestra play the songs live. it's part of my childhood soundtrack.

the peoplemover track has be unused for 10 years! shame! walt would be pissed! he wanted his tomorrowland to be a world on the move. to remove both the peoplemover and skyway were the worst decisions of the 1990s. the rocket rods failed miserablely, and no one seemed to care. what a waste of money.

The People Mover will always be a fond memory of my childhood growing up in So Cal, no matter what some people chose to do while riding on it.

Imagineers are installing a new (people mover) attraction for a 2012 opening
apdorkfish 2 years ago
It was said that girls with long blone hair had the feeling of their hair being violently pulled while on the ride. This is supposedly linked to the death of a boy who fell off the ride and while falling tried to grap hold of his girlfriends' blonde hair before he died... I'm skeptical about the story but you never know...

@DelilahJo3 the reason ppl die on costers and rides is beacuase there stupid!! they clearly say"keep arms ffeet and legs inside the ride be sure to watch your kids have a zip-a-dee-doo0dah day
gr13340 1 year ago 24
@gr13340 I didn't say they weren't stupid. I said they were goofing off. If they were goofing off in a non-stupid way, they wouldn't have been killed.

@DelilahJo3 yea but if ur goofing off like this in a STUPID stunt that could take away ur life it makes the people STUPID! stupid is stupid does!! they clearly are stupid and they did something stupid!! stupid=lack of commonsense!! therefore these 2 people are stupid or idiots i prefer with any!! who agrees?
