The late 60's and early 70's were the greatest era for horror movies. This was a time when the plot of the movie would really stick with you. Then, the late 70's came and started the slasher movie era which had mostly formulaic plots and were more gruesome than scary.

How about, The Black Cat , The Body Snatcher, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Curse of the Demon, Dead of Night, Freaks, The Golem, Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages, Horror of Dracula, House of Wax (original), I Walked with a Zombie, Island of Lost Souls, The Man who Laughs, Nosferatu, The Phantom Carriage, The Uninvited. All of these movies are good to great. Check out the Others (2001)

@britishtwiggy it is really hard to tell it without giving it away.. so I believe imdb says it best lol. "A young couple moves into a new apartment, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbors and occurrences. When the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant, paranoia over the safety of her unborn child begins controlling her life." It unfolds very slowly and you begin to feel the same feelings of suspicion. If you like 70s horror, this is for you. If you like bloody free-for-alls, it's not.
