What a wonderful clip, and a wonderful man. I had no idea he spoke German until I saw this. And he is so modest - "ein bisschen Deutsch" indeed! He handles the interview perfectly - even parrying the interviewers poor attempts at humour.
He knows his numbers and countries but he is far from fluent in German. Given his limitation with the language, it was brave of him to agree to be interviewed like this, albeit having had several simple questions repeated.
Slowly I'm coming to the realisation, that there is nothing that Sir Christopher cannot do, nowhere he hasn't been to and nobody he doesn't know! This man has lived two or three lifes where some don't even live one!
Quite interesting, the first time I watched this (about a year ago) I couldn't understand a single bit what they were saying. But now when I watched this again, I actually understood almost everything. And I have studied German for only a year and a half. (Or maybe I have watched too much Kommissar Rex lately... re-runs in Finland, oh yeah)
And oh my God, Christopher speaks awesome German! (I mean, Michael Fassbender totally failed his German in Inglourious Basterds, but Christopher... bravo!)
He is one of the best actors in the world and THE best actor of the elder ones. He´s goodlooking, intelligent and is a real gentleman. I love, that he´s honoured by the queen of beeing "Sir", now! I hope, he will stay healthy and make some more good films, perhaps with Tim Burton...
If you like this remarkable man, pick up a copy of his autobiography "Tall, Dark and Gruesome" - it's both charming and humorous. You don't know the half of his talents!
One should mention that the latest edition of his autobiography (with chapters on Lord of the Rings etc.) was published under the title "Lord of Misrule". ;)
Well, in fact he WAS singing it in the studio, but, as things are, most singing on the telly goes out lip-synchred (with rather grotesque effects sometimes).
@Thespilian so sad we can't hear his singing from the television show itself.... I so wish it were available somewhere! You're so blessed to have heard it live :)
And thanks for posting this interview...priceless!!
Finnish is a beautiful language as well. Personally, I like Finnish poetry. And, by the way, the correct word is "horrible", not "horible". Why don't you buy yourself an English dictionary instead of talking nonsence with the air of profound wisdom?
I stand corrected! I know, it was just a misprint. So, perhaps, you will be so kind to shut your fucking mouth up instead of thrusting your nose in other people's business and correcting them?
Fantastic!!! Love the humour...Thanks!

Not fluent, but certainly speaks more than "a bit" of German, that was my point :)

Come to think of it, he didn't even know his countries, failing to recognize Die Karpaten for Romania.

Wow...that's a really enthusiastic crowd...and what an odd format: the host interviewing the guest with their backs to the audience.
