  • What a BAND! Bruce is the Boss, but the E Street Band made him a star.

  • words cannot describe the pure joy and youthful optimism this song evokes.

  • so awesome. they were gonna make this the state song of new jersey. hahaha. ahh, bruce. great song. hot man. killer sax.

  • This is my favorite version of the song.

  • Far out! The Saxophone solo beginning at 2:30 and peaking with Bruce coming back in at 2:56 has to be the MOST powerful musical expression in modern musical history.

The raw power there is absolutely mindblowing... Forget "death-metal", "Thrash", "Heavy Metal" etc... they've got NOTHING on this song for raw, human, emotional power.

  • This could have been an instant hit nower days

  • Awesome!

  • Holy shit this is good.

  • I'm so happy that this video is back, I was unable to view it for a year or so. R.I.P. Clarence.

  • great song, he's a master!!!!

  • thanks Rudy, I have memories of Bruce doing back flips onstage - or did I just imagine it???? - I have never seen any other artist performing with such intensity- ahhhh then there's Clarence -

  • @chequeryard He has done acrobatic stuff on stage. So did Nils, like backflips. That time is over.

  • if this is Hammersmith- I was there that night and remember thinking what a great show it was - knowing you were seeing a great talent including the band

  • @chequeryard It was Hammersmith, 1975. This is the best presentation of the band from that period. Max, Roy and Steven were relatively new to the band. They had just completed the album BTR. This was one of 2 shows at Hammersmith Odeon. Bruce considered the concert a disaster. I think most of us agree he was wrong.

  • @RudyCasordapek i doubt bruce would have said that

  • @marti32 Bruce thought the whole situation at Hammersmith was a disaster. He felt his record company was hyping too much at the time (this was just after the Times and Newsweek covers in 1975). When he got to the auditorium, every seat had a Bruce brochure placed on it. Bruce removed every one of them himself. He felt both performances (they were a few days apart) were flat. HE WAS WRONG of course. I presume that he was just upset with the promotion, and it colored his view of the show.

  • @RudyCasordapek ok, thanks for your reply

  • All right, to the two people who voted thumbs down, if you don't like "Born To Run" then you don't like music! Get real ...

  • What a legend...... 35 years later and he can still rock this song just as well as then!! awesome!

  • @ashkent7

Great idea, I live in the Netherlands but can I anyhow change my Itunes settings to UK so my purchase registers as an UK purchase?

  • @jowbowla I'm not sure actually. We have actually just changed our plan and have changed the date of this to the 22nd of August. The group gained just under 200 members in it's first day so rather than rush it we can spend the next three months building the group to make sure we don't fail. Also the 22nd August is the last Sunday before the 35th Anniversary of Born To Run, so the song would be the Official Uk Number 1 for the week of the anniversary.

  • i love the beard on Max

  • Words for what?

  • hell of a performance.

  • "BABY WE WERE BORN TO RUN!".....summer nights can't get here soon enough...most of these songs were made to be listened to loud and cruising..thanks for posting..

  • SPRINGSTEEN IS THE BEST MUSICIAN EVER

  • WOW!!!

  • clarence = sax-gasm

  • Just love his 'Serpico' look...great!

  • I am just watching that now. So awesome and inspiring.

  • An ispiration. Definetly

  • We need more people in the world like this guy =/

  • thats true

  • thats true

  • Great song i cant believe is the same guy that sings that shit " born in the usa."

  • Bruce is my #1 inspiration sure i'm only 12 and people make fun of me because i pick him as my inspiration i pick him more than anyone because he knows how to sing and he makes his own songs. An inspiration to all.

  • @hex00002 Dont let anyone tell you who to listen to... besides bruce beats the hell outta anything you can listen to nowadays... just think of it as being a step beyond any of your peers music-wise

  • @hex00002 I started listenin to Bruce when I was around your age, I'm 25 now and still havn't found anyone better to listen too...he's incredible and you got a great taste in music...Keep on Rockin!!!

  • Sounds like they had to catch the bus, as fast as they play it...

  • Bruce before he went to gym and shaved his beard

  • Haha nice comment.

Anyway, I don't give a fuck, after that you've said his music was still awesome and talented and their shows unbeatable :)

Actually, i couldn't have seen him and the band these days playing great over 3 hours, with old tunes and so much power, if he hadn't gone to the gym and taken care for himself, so I'm glad he began to do it! :)

  • wow he's so skinny here!

  • Are you serious? One of the ten best songs ever written? More like one of the 5 best songs ever written!

  • one of the ten greatest songs EVER written IMO

  • @canucklehead2004 Without a doubt!

  • i LOVE THIS SONG

one of the best ever written!

  • WOW! Was he HOT or what?

  • I can't believe he was only 28!!!I am 28 now!

  • Comment removed

  • more like 25 i think

  • @coltin5 he was 26

  • This was the Jersey Shore scene in 1975, classic. The clothes, hats, hair, ear rings... all a little bit of Asbury Park, of Freehold, of the Shore.

  • @wozanicharles yeah when he says . sprung from cages out on highway 9. highway 9 is out by freehold n.j. and i believe the sprung from cages are turnpike booths. just my thoughts. thank you!

  • God! One of his best performances ever!

    Thanks Glammer!

Obama said: "I'm the president, but he's The Boss". And The Boss was born to be The Best! XD

  • What's with all the hats?

  • enigma. pure rock and roll.!!

  • was at this concert springsteen just seemed to have it all

  • Little bit of a speed up there, not a big deal. I am not a fan, but this is a terrific rock and roll band and I heard this whole album and this is really the only tune where anything like that happens. The rest of the tunes are played terrific. Im a Springsteen hater pretty much, but the first three records have some things I like, and he had David Sancious early on, who is an absolute monster musican. I hate the later records because in my opinion they wreck Max with awful drum mixes

  • Yeah his first three records are definently the winners in his catalouge

  • I own this DVD

  • @asdasas2305 where could I get this dvd? what's the title???

  • dont remember man, im sorry, I saw at at home and just put it on the DVD...gimme goose bumps ;)

  • the 30th anniversary Born To Run 30th Anniversary Box Set. Comes with this, Wings For Wheels (making of Born to Run) and obviously Born To Run. Hope this helps, best live concert i have ever heard.

  • @parlorxxmobster I just got back home. It's BTR 30th anniversary edition. I'm gonna watch it now. bye

  • As for any idea that they rushed anything, remember this was done right after the album came out and they had not played it very many times yet.

Personnally I prefer this version because it is so raw and real.

  • Clarence rushed his solo.... still a perfect song

  • The whole song is rushed.....

  • true, but i think he played ahead of the bit too much and max followed. it seems faster after his solo than before. no disrespect to any of them, this is just silly little internet arguing :P

  • Great video!

Thanks for sharing this amazing live performance!

  • wendy is a bike?when i got my harley ill call it wendy.

  • Perhaps the greatest rock n roll song of all time

  • This is an awesome vid

  • One THE BEST songs EVER made!!!!!!

  • So skinny and unkempt, still redolent of the Casino and driving the Circuit in Asbury Park. Not the bulked-up clean-shaven Bruuuce of these days. Great memory. Thanks.

  • Cool hats all 'round

  • He is the best. I love this song and his telecaster!

  • got goosebumps from watching this

  • he looks like a pirite

  • he looks good ;)

  • saw bruce live in concert in 1975 when i was a teenager......when "born to run" was played you knew, you just knew, you were watching a relatively unknown musician rising from almost obscurity to become one of the world's greatest rock stars....."bruce=musical genious"

  • I really hope Bruce won't run for office, cause as president of the USA he wouldn't have time for what he does best, writing awesome music and performing it live with the E Street Band!

  • Bruce Springsteen for President.

  • I agree!

  • It's good to change the pace a little bit sometimes, out of respect for the fans ,especially the ones that are always going to see the concerts.

  • awesome song!

  • this is played at a much faster than they play it today.

  • Last of the Great Rockers!

  • bruce is sublime

  • this is amazing!!! i love him so much!!!

my mum was at this concert!!! :D

  • Can't say that I was ever a big Bruce fan but the footage from these 1975 concerts is BOSS!

  • then you must listen to the first 2 albums. GREETINGS From asbury park and the Wild, the innocent. Pure poetry, beetles

  • Thank you Bruce!

  • yea baby we are born to run remember cincinnati ohio 1980'something born to run

  • He is and always has been THE BOSS!! Too bad though he didn't bother to shave before the concert

  • that was the look back in the day for most bands

  • I'd say too bad he doesn't have the beard today:)

  • I'd rather say luckily :P... it doesn't suit him, but he still is a hell of a rocker! I'm soo looking forward to seeing him live again this thursday! :D

  • Lol....you said it all, Salcini.

  • YEAH!!

  • AHH i wana be there SO BAD

  • even if it were in my mother's whomb i wish i could've been at that concert

born to run but 12 years too late to even have a chance of being there, it's a shame

  • WOAW just WOAW

  • I agree with the comment before me 1000000000%!

  • best performance of this song ever! Remarkable

  • I appreciate the 'rough hewn' nature of this performance...it 's what makes it CLASSIC...it's an amazing piece of work, bottom line!

  • Anthem for a generation.

  • vintage Bruce, LOVE IT

  • At first viewing I though that this seemed rushed - it is definitely faster than 80's and current versions. After a few times though I really think the energy and drive and ability to have the melody and feeling come through the frenetic and loud music is just incredible. I can't imaging what it must have been like to see this live for the first time. Jus brilliant and a gift - thanks for posting.

  • Brilliant writing.

  • Is it me or does Max look like Chuck Norris?

  • Buahauahauah loool

  • That was just awesome!!

  • Unbelieveable awesome footage!

  • my mum was one of the ravers here!

    LOVE BRUCE

might go and see him in hyde park :)

  • I gotta laugh...all these young kids wearing their wool caps thinking their rebellious..uh...Bruce was doing this before you were born.

  • was at this concert only 19 at the time what a performer he only gets better

  • This is fucking awesome!!!!

  • One of my all time favorite songs and propably the best sax-solo in rock history.

  • this is bruce's best concer!!!wonderful song

  • "They'll" never give us brilliant music like this again.

"They're" more concerned with bang for the buck.

Bruces numbers took mastery of craft which was prevalent in mainstream music during the 60's and 70's.

  • great!!

  • i remember seeing this documentary about Born to Run and some critic from England said this concert sucked. What an idiot!!!!

  • amen to that; what a tosser

  • Well, Bruce himself had been put in a bad mood by Columbia, who had just began to hype him up, spending $40,000 on advertising and putting up posters all over London, which Bruce tried to pull down himself! He wasn't too thrilled with the concert at the time and felt that later gigs were fat better.

  • he cut his hand too when clarence and he went to tear down the posters. thats why hes not playing any instruments. plus he was super pissed off like you said, so historians dont consider this one of his best concerts but ill tell you what, he sounds exactly like he does on his born to run album and there is something to be said for that. i think that is the true test of a good artist, although, the way he changed "prove it all night" during the pheonix 78 show changed my life forever.

  • It's all in the word 'critic'; someone who has no discernable talent themselves, but nevertheless feels they know how something should be done.

  • brilliant, dont forget he was trying to break england with this gig.watch all of glammers clips to see how long this guy has ruled kick ass live gigplaying.

  • Great song!!!!!! Keep doin it bruce!!!!

  • was at this gig only 19 at the time the time has flown by seen him many times since

  • Baby we were born to run

  • Keep on runnin', Bruce!

  • the greatest of all time. what does roy adjust on his piano from :13-:14?

  • its amazing how many looks bruce has had! looks a different person every year from 70's to 80's

  • hellyeah! i love this version...

  • soft verson

  • sjeft

  • With my explanation of Bruces choice headwear in the 10th Ave Freeze Out comments, I couldnt help but think of Lowell George. Nice to see Rock & Roll Doctor on your list.

  • The riffs of Chuck, the soul of Fats, the pure likeability of Elvis, and the lyrics of Dylan. Is The Boss the rock and roll messiah?

  • You better belive

  • Oh trust me, I'm a believer. I'm Saint-fucking-Peter to his Christ. Lol.

  • Goose bumps!!

Thanks Glammer for this reminder of what genuine kickass rock is all about!

We should all have a Wendy in our lives, eh?!

  • damn bruce looks so cool

  • bloody incredible RARE footage, of the boss in his early prime...still a tramp-rocker on the road, in great voice, dirty clothes and gypsy looks, the e-street band superb, and a wonderful sense of a raw, feral talent...

    glammer! - you've played a BLINDER!

  • Buy the born to run 30th anniversary, the entire concert is on there via DVD

  • great concert. Where is it comming from? this song is one of his best songs. And probably one of the best songs ever. Bruuuuuuce :-). maybe a little to fast here :-).

  • Concert in London in 1975. Right after Born to Run was released.

  • Yea, I agree..Too fast..maybe they were just hyped up. This song was my "theme song" for over twenty years. Then I met and married my beautiful wife. BTW her name is Wendy.

    Bruce is too cool.

  • Nice response retrophilly, attack the debater rather than debate. There is a fancy Latin term for that and I could be pretentious and use it but that won't make the point any more valid will it? Again what was your original point? You hated his shirt and hat?

  • Furthermore, why would I presume that my "review" of Nebraska or Tom Joad would be of interest to anyone other than myself? I'm not that egotistical. But, conversely, I see that YouTube also serves as a surrogate "Music Review" for you, a place to display a vast accumulation of knowledge, no doubt obtained through 10-year old Rolling Stone album reviews and an extensive breakdown (and internalization) of liner notes. Kudos to you, sir.

  • You certainly use many words to say absolutely nothing. They are 30 year old Rolling Stone reviews by the way and I doubt you grasp Nebraska or Tom Joad. Starkweather and Steinbeck, they were comedy team right? If only I knew what Lester Bangs thought about this.

  • Tiresome. Naming a serial killer from the 50's and perhaps America's greatest author (debatable) after a no-doubt fumbling, misspelled Google search will earn you no points. That aside, it's ironic that someone who would discount a "debate" (another misappropriated term, since by definition you need two intelligent respondents for a debate) at the mention of a TV show is the SAME individual who also brought Hannah Montana, Paris Hilton, & "faux hawk" into this conversation. Ironic, yet typical

  • Do yourself a favor, son, and slink off into the sunset. Even a dog knows when to run from a beating. (See, this is the point where you would no doubt add "LOL!!" "See, I'm realy funny!! I kill me!!"). I will no doubt expect a copywright infringement lawsuit.

  • What the fuck are you talking about? Both Steinbeck and Starkweather were spelled correctly. "The Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" except based on Mexican Cowboys. Not a mystery, it is widely known. "Nebraska" main theme is based on the killings of Starkweather and his girlfriend. A debate also requires someone to admit they are wrong. Come on retro it won't hurt too much.

  • I'm seriously worried that you can't read, Dean-o. Of course "the Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's novel...hence my assertion that he's arguably America's greatest author. Duh. And again, most everyone knows about Charlie Starkweather as well (also clearly referenced in my earlier posting). I see that reading comprehension is not a strong point, huh? This is like arguing with my shoe.

  • What do you say people, lets bring back these times

  • I was actually talking about the quality in music. Who gives a crap about the clothes.

  • retrophillysoul that was a stupid statement even by Internet standards. Even if the clothes were important here (they are not) what you said made no sense. His shirt wasn't tight, oversized wool hats (as opposed to a sharkfin fake mowhawk haircut that everyone has now) or an expensive salon haircut that just looks like bed head. Jeans made to look like they are worn out and paying over a hundered dollars for them. I don't think todays fashions will stand the test of time.

  • I don't know anyone with a "sharkfin fake mowhawk" (what is a "fake" mohawk, by the way? You either have one, or you don't. Unless you believe the hairstyle to be the sole providence of the Mohawk indian, which is absurd), so how can that be something that "everyone has now"? I think you're watching too much "America's Next Model".

  • Obvious diversion but no, unless you are catatonic the "bands" now have three hair styles

    1) fake sharkfin Mohawk (Faux Hawk look it up)

    2) expensive fake bedhead

    3) I would rather watch 20 year old reruns of "Who's the Boss" than watch that steaming turd that is America's Next Top Model.

I would love to know your musical influences or your honest (except for fashion sweetie) critique of Bruce and the E-Street Band. Tell me your in depth analysis of "Nebraska" or "The Ghost of Tom Joad".

  • sorry, two hair styles. They aren't that complex enough for three unless you count bald which kind of just a blank slate.

  • A lovely summation of the hairstyles of current bands. You claim no proclivity to "Amereric's Top Model" (and presumably, by the same token, nothing but disdain for not only today's music, but it's image), and yet you can summarize every band's hair style as you've indicated above. Let's put aside the the fact that this is an incredible overgeneralization; that's for another post. What's telling is that you actually are familair with a term "Faux Hawk" and can juxtapose it against bedhead.

  • You brought up fashion not me. Why not shut the fuck up and listen to the music? Which do you think is better the Hanna Montana album or Paris Hilton's album. LOL

  • Any clown who puts "LOL" into his OWN post is just that...a clown. You don't need us, you're too good at cracking yourself up. Hannah Montana & Paris Hilton....for someone with such disdain, you seems to have a more-than-average grasp of pop culture. How cute.

  • Man once you brought up "America's Top Model" I think any illusion of actual debate was abandoned.
