Far out! The Saxophone solo beginning at 2:30 and peaking with Bruce coming back in at 2:56 has to be the MOST powerful musical expression in modern musical history.
The raw power there is absolutely mindblowing... Forget "death-metal", "Thrash", "Heavy Metal" etc... they've got NOTHING on this song for raw, human, emotional power.
thanks Rudy, I have memories of Bruce doing back flips onstage - or did I just imagine it???? - I have never seen any other artist performing with such intensity- ahhhh then there's Clarence -
if this is Hammersmith- I was there that night and remember thinking what a great show it was - knowing you were seeing a great talent including the band
@chequeryard It was Hammersmith, 1975. This is the best presentation of the band from that period. Max, Roy and Steven were relatively new to the band. They had just completed the album BTR. This was one of 2 shows at Hammersmith Odeon. Bruce considered the concert a disaster. I think most of us agree he was wrong.
@marti32 Bruce thought the whole situation at Hammersmith was a disaster. He felt his record company was hyping too much at the time (this was just after the Times and Newsweek covers in 1975). When he got to the auditorium, every seat had a Bruce brochure placed on it. Bruce removed every one of them himself. He felt both performances (they were a few days apart) were flat. HE WAS WRONG of course. I presume that he was just upset with the promotion, and it colored his view of the show.
@jowbowla I'm not sure actually. We have actually just changed our plan and have changed the date of this to the 22nd of August. The group gained just under 200 members in it's first day so rather than rush it we can spend the next three months building the group to make sure we don't fail. Also the 22nd August is the last Sunday before the 35th Anniversary of Born To Run, so the song would be the Official Uk Number 1 for the week of the anniversary.
"BABY WE WERE BORN TO RUN!".....summer nights can't get here soon enough...most of these songs were made to be listened to loud and cruising..thanks for posting..
Bruce is my #1 inspiration sure i'm only 12 and people make fun of me because i pick him as my inspiration i pick him more than anyone because he knows how to sing and he makes his own songs. An inspiration to all.

Actually, i couldn't have seen him and the band these days playing great over 3 hours, with old tunes and so much power, if he hadn't gone to the gym and taken care for himself, so I'm glad he began to do it! :)
@wozanicharles yeah when he says . sprung from cages out on highway 9. highway 9 is out by freehold n.j. and i believe the sprung from cages are turnpike booths. just my thoughts. thank you!
Little bit of a speed up there, not a big deal. I am not a fan, but this is a terrific rock and roll band and I heard this whole album and this is really the only tune where anything like that happens. The rest of the tunes are played terrific. Im a Springsteen hater pretty much, but the first three records have some things I like, and he had David Sancious early on, who is an absolute monster musican. I hate the later records because in my opinion they wreck Max with awful drum mixes
the 30th anniversary Born To Run 30th Anniversary Box Set. Comes with this, Wings For Wheels (making of Born to Run) and obviously Born To Run. Hope this helps, best live concert i have ever heard.
true, but i think he played ahead of the bit too much and max followed. it seems faster after his solo than before. no disrespect to any of them, this is just silly little internet arguing :P
So skinny and unkempt, still redolent of the Casino and driving the Circuit in Asbury Park. Not the bulked-up clean-shaven Bruuuce of these days. Great memory. Thanks.
saw bruce live in concert in 1975 when i was a teenager......when "born to run" was played you knew, you just knew, you were watching a relatively unknown musician rising from almost obscurity to become one of the world's greatest rock stars....."bruce=musical genious"
I really hope Bruce won't run for office, cause as president of the USA he wouldn't have time for what he does best, writing awesome music and performing it live with the E Street Band!
I'd rather say luckily :P... it doesn't suit him, but he still is a hell of a rocker! I'm soo looking forward to seeing him live again this thursday! :D
At first viewing I though that this seemed rushed - it is definitely faster than 80's and current versions. brilliant, dont forget he was trying to break england with this gig.watch all of glammers clips to see how long this guy has ruled kick ass live gigplaying.
With my explanation of Bruces choice headwear in the 10th Ave Freeze Out comments, I couldnt help but think of Lowell George. Nice to see Rock & Roll Doctor on your list.
bloody incredible RARE footage, of the boss in his early prime...still a tramp-rocker on the road, in great voice, dirty clothes and gypsy looks, the e-street band superb, and a wonderful sense of a raw, feral talent...
great concert. Where is it comming from? this song is one of his best songs. And probably one of the best songs ever. Bruuuuuuce :-). maybe a little to fast here :-).
Yea, I agree..Too fast..maybe they were just hyped up. This song was my "theme song" for over twenty years. Then I met and married my beautiful wife. BTW her name is Wendy.
Nice response retrophilly, attack the debater rather than debate. There is a fancy Latin term for that and I could be pretentious and use it but that won't make the point any more valid will it? Again what was your original point? You hated his shirt and hat?
Furthermore, why would I presume that my "review" of Nebraska or Tom Joad would be of interest to anyone other than myself? I'm not that egotistical. But, conversely, I see that YouTube also serves as a surrogate "Music Review" for you, a place to display a vast accumulation of knowledge, no doubt obtained through 10-year old Rolling Stone album reviews and an extensive breakdown (and internalization) of liner notes. Kudos to you, sir.
You certainly use many words to say absolutely nothing. They are 30 year old Rolling Stone reviews by the way and I doubt you grasp Nebraska or Tom Joad. Starkweather and Steinbeck, they were comedy team right? If only I knew what Lester Bangs thought about this.
Tiresome. Naming a serial killer from the 50's and perhaps America's greatest author (debatable) after a no-doubt fumbling, misspelled Google search will earn you no points. That aside, it's ironic that someone who would discount a "debate" (another misappropriated term, since by definition you need two intelligent respondents for a debate) at the mention of a TV show is the SAME individual who also brought Hannah Montana, Paris Hilton, & "faux hawk" into this conversation. Ironic, yet typical
Do yourself a favor, son, and slink off into the sunset. Even a dog knows when to run from a beating. (See, this is the point where you would no doubt add "LOL!!" "See, I'm realy funny!! I kill me!!"). I will no doubt expect a copywright infringement lawsuit.
What the fuck are you talking about? Both Steinbeck and Starkweather were spelled correctly. "The Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" except based on Mexican Cowboys. Not a mystery, it is widely known. "Nebraska" main theme is based on the killings of Starkweather and his girlfriend. A debate also requires someone to admit they are wrong. Come on retro it won't hurt too much.
I'm seriously worried that you can't read, Dean-o. Of course "the Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's novel...hence my assertion that he's arguably America's greatest author. Duh. And again, most everyone knows about Charlie Starkweather as well (also clearly referenced in my earlier posting). I see that reading comprehension is not a strong point, huh? This is like arguing with my shoe.
retrophillysoul that was a stupid statement even by Internet standards. Even if the clothes were important here (they are not) what you said made no sense. His shirt wasn't tight, oversized wool hats (as opposed to a sharkfin fake mowhawk haircut that everyone has now) or an expensive salon haircut that just looks like bed head. Jeans made to look like they are worn out and paying over a hundered dollars for them. I don't think todays fashions will stand the test of time.
I don't know anyone with a "sharkfin fake mowhawk" (what is a "fake" mohawk, by the way? You either have one, or you don't. Unless you believe the hairstyle to be the sole providence of the Mohawk indian, which is absurd), so how can that be something that "everyone has now"? I think you're watching too much "America's Next Model".
Obvious diversion but no, unless you are catatonic the "bands" now have three hair styles
1) fake sharkfin Mohawk (Faux Hawk look it up)
2) expensive fake bedhead
3) I would rather watch 20 year old reruns of "Who's the Boss" than watch that steaming turd that is America's Next Top Model.
I would love to know your musical influences or your honest (except for fashion sweetie) critique of Bruce and the E-Street Band. Tell me your in depth analysis of "Nebraska" or "The Ghost of Tom Joad".
A lovely summation of the hairstyles of current bands. You claim no proclivity to "Amereric's Top Model" (and presumably, by the same token, nothing but disdain for not only today's music, but it's image), and yet you can summarize every band's hair style as you've indicated above. Let's put aside the the fact that this is an incredible overgeneralization; that's for another post. What's telling is that you actually are familair with a term "Faux Hawk" and can juxtapose it against bedhead.
You brought up fashion not me. Why not shut the fuck up and listen to the music? Which do you think is better the Hanna Montana album or Paris Hilton's album. LOL
Any clown who puts "LOL" into his OWN post is just that...a clown. You don't need us, you're too good at cracking yourself up. Hannah Montana & Paris Hilton....for someone with such disdain, you seems to have a more-than-average grasp of pop culture. How cute.
What a BAND! Bruce is the Boss, but the E Street Band made him a star.

With my explanation of Bruces choice headwear in the 10th Ave Freeze Out comments, I couldnt help but think of Lowell George. Nice to see Rock & Roll Doctor on your list.

The riffs of Chuck, the soul of Fats, the pure likeability of Elvis, and the lyrics of Dylan. Is The Boss the rock and roll messiah?

bloody incredible RARE footage, of the boss in his early prime...still a tramp-rocker on the road, in great voice, dirty clothes and gypsy looks, the e-street band superb, and a wonderful sense of a raw, feral talent...
glammer! - you've played a BLINDER!

Concert in London in 1975. Right after Born to Run was released.

Yea, I agree..Too fast..maybe they were just hyped up. This song was my "theme song" for over twenty years. Then I met and married my beautiful wife. BTW her name is Wendy.
Bruce is too cool.

Kudos to you, sir.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
You certainly use many words to say absolutely nothing. They are 30 year old Rolling Stone reviews by the way and I doubt you grasp Nebraska or Tom Joad. Starkweather and Steinbeck, they were comedy team right? If only I knew what Lester Bangs thought about this.
dean1541 3 years ago

I will no doubt expect a copywright infringement lawsuit.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
What the fuck are you talking about? Both Steinbeck and Starkweather were spelled correctly. "The Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" except based on Mexican Cowboys. Not a mystery, it is widely known. "Nebraska" main theme is based on the killings of Starkweather and his girlfriend. A debate also requires someone to admit they are wrong. Come on retro it won't hurt too much.
dean1541 3 years ago
I'm seriously worried that you can't read, Dean-o. Of course "the Ghost of Tom Joad" is based on Steinbeck's novel...hence my assertion that he's arguably America's greatest author. Duh. And again, most everyone knows about Charlie Starkweather as well (also clearly referenced in my earlier posting). I see that reading comprehension is not a strong point, huh? This is like arguing with my shoe.

What do you say people, lets bring back these times

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's over dude...settle down. Tight shirts, oversized wool hats, and white Good Humor ice cream mans suits...good riddance.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
I was actually talking about the quality in music. Who gives a crap about the clothes.
Bobbovich345 3 years ago 2
retrophillysoul that was a stupid statement even by Internet standards. I don't think todays fashions will stand the test of time.
dean1541 3 years ago
I don't know anyone with a "sharkfin fake mowhawk" (what is a "fake" mohawk, by the way? You either have one, or you don't. Unless you believe the hairstyle to be the sole providence of the Mohawk indian, which is absurd), so how can that be something that "everyone has now"? I think you're watching too much "America's Next Model".
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
Obvious diversion but no, unless you are catatonic the "bands" now have three hair styles
1) fake sharkfin Mohawk (Faux Hawk look it up)
2) expensive fake bedhead
3) I would rather watch 20 year old reruns of "Who's the Boss" than watch that steaming turd that is America's Next Top Model.
I would love to know your musical influences or your honest (except for fashion sweetie) critique of Bruce and the E-Street Band. Tell me your in depth analysis of "Nebraska" or "The Ghost of Tom Joad".
dean1541 3 years ago
sorry, two hair styles. They aren't that complex enough for three unless you count bald which kind of just a blank slate.
dean1541 3 years ago
A lovely summation of the hairstyles of current bands. You claim no proclivity to "Amereric's Top Model" (and presumably, by the same token, nothing but disdain for not only today's music, but it's image), and yet you can summarize every band's hair style as you've indicated above. Let's put aside the the fact that this is an incredible overgeneralization; that's for another post. What's telling is that you actually are familair with a term "Faux Hawk" and can juxtapose it against bedhead.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
You brought up fashion not me. Why not shut the fuck up and listen to the music? Which do you think is better the Hanna Montana album or Paris Hilton's album. LOL
dean1541 3 years ago
Any clown who puts "LOL" into his OWN post is just that...a clown. You don't need us, you're too good at cracking yourself up. Hannah Montana & Paris Hilton....for someone with such disdain, you seems to have a more-than-average grasp of pop culture. How cute.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
Man once you brought up "America's Top Model" I think any illusion of actual debate was abandoned.
