I have a ? Why is there the misconception that the atman/brahman is associated with consciousness? The buddha said that consciousness being one of the five aggregates is anatta=not atta/atman. Rightly so because consciousness itself is just as impermanet as the other aggregates. Also just because the buddha mentions anatta doesnt mean he taught the negation of brahman and the atmam. It's clear to see that he just pointed out that those things are anatta=not self, not that there is no self.
Sankara was a Man ahead of his times....he didnt believe in dumb rituals and traditions which discouraged creative , lateral thinking. As a Monk traditionally he was not supposed to even come back and see his mother , let alone light her funeral pyre. But he turned such draconian ideas on its head and took care of her funeral.
To this day , in Kerala , Brahmins (namboodiris) cremate their dead on the backyards of their houses , following in the footsteps of the Great Shankara.
A beautifull movie full of wisdom. Adi Shankara was a true realized saint and his every word is able to remove ignorance from the mind. What a heritage India is blessed with! Unfortunately even the vast majority of indians are not aware of it, let alone the western world. Thank you for posting this and let us have more of these jem like movies.
@transformersfan81 This man (jiva) would not have understood Shankara then. And very much behind the ladder.
