This guy's unbelievable. The best op/ed writer on the planet and he still has time to upload fun shit like this. I wonder if Taibbi has any vids of his cat playing with an owl?
If the possum didn't take the cat food bait and is still there in the morning, you may have to be more proactive and try a "trap." I got one out of my house by putting a dollop of peanut butter inside a dog crate, standing where the possum couldn't see me until it was busy eating (which may take a minute), then sneaking over and closing the gate on it...
Then you can just bring it outside, open the gate and walk away. It'll wander out and be on its way before long. I'm assuming with all those dogs you have a crate and I suggest peanut butter because it takes awhile and helps prevent effective biting if all doesn't go according to plan. Good luck Glenn!
Possum. Leave the door open and a trail of dog kibble leading out. You've already got the door-slamming technique down. It looks menacing, but it's probably just scared.
All right, Greenwald. I've stayed up late enough waiting to see how this turned out. You have been a TERRIBLE reporter of all this. That will not be soon forgotten.
I vote for possum--they have that distinctive sharp muzzle.
Incidentally, possums aren't rodents, and not all rodents are capable of carrying rabies, though it's best to assume any wild animal acting oddly or aggressively toward humans does have it, or something nearly as bad.
The paws look more rodent-like than a wolverine. My guess is that it is a rodent of some sort, probably a Coypu.
The problem with rodents is that they're mammals, so there is a rabies risk. Can you form a sort of wildlife corridor from pantry to outdoors while staying safe & keeping your dogs safe, too?
In the morning, call the nearest university or zoo if it's still in.
Opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum opossum. Opossum.
On more study of vid & thought on habitats, this is more likely oppossum, which are scavengers & frequent human locations. Wolverines very much avoid people. The 5 gal bucket w/ piece of plywood trick might work. But bait on string to an exit should work too. See Nat'l Geographic site & search on opposum
Yes, give it an exit route if at all possible (prop open the swinging door, open all other doors). It wants out as badly as you want it out. They don't seem to be able to see very well, so if you can kind of get behind it or nudge it with a broom, that would help. And dear God, please take more video!
Highly certain this is a wolverine. Fierce! Don't get too close. Give an exit route. Can lure w/ meat since omnivorous. See also wolverine foundation online
That's a possum. or, Opossum. If you can stop using your phone as a camera for a second, use it as a phone and call animal control. Or look up what to do about them online.
clearly it's an R.O.U.S. (duh) ;)

Looks like an opossum. You can trap them in a cage with strawberries as bait and release it in the wild.

Put on heavy gloves, pick it up by it's tail, take outside. We have tons of them here in florida.
It will try and bite, but if you are careful, you'll be fine.
You can also get a five gallon bucket and put it over it, then slide a piece of cardboard under it, turn it over and take outside.
I've done both.
