The thought of civilization ending goes deeper than you can fathom. Whether it's stealing or not isn't the point, it is that we should not have fell into living in a way that has an EXPIRATION DATE. He is not telling you to rip off the landlord or shop owner...

it's an extreme example of how our society is violent, if you don't pay ...the cops come.

He ultimately is encouraging people to grow their own food and try to live a life that is more sustainable, which is hard because no one wants to believe we are in a lot of trouble.

So are you saying without private ownership, serfdom is the only outcome. You can easily have serfdom with privtae ownership depending on who owns the land. The entire world didn't serve as serfs before private ownership was created either fyi. There are many systems and cultures most are not even aware of due to the type of education we receive. I wouldn't call protecting land via inferred violence/prison the ideals of civility either, but we are entitled to our own opinions.

every time a family fails to pay three months worth of mortgage, the police must come to the house to evict them and turn it over to the banks (aka foreclosure). I've seen this happen to friends of mine and I've seen police bust down locks and even doors of families that I knew who had failed to pay rent or their mortgage.

As far as trees ... I think there were more trees 100 years ago, there was certainly more biomass. The trees that were around 100 or more years ago were huge, and they were all cut down. I saw a documentary about Oakland Ca the other day and in our coastal rain forests there were Sequoia trees that were 30 feet in diameter, and they all got cut down - not a single Oak in Oakland left either.
