  • as i am seeing WIFI MIDI for ipad maybe there is a way to have a pen as a pressure MIDI complaint ....... mmmmmm just putting it out there.

On second thoughts JUST GIVE MY DAMN PRESSURE FOR PAINTING RRRRRR!

  • As an iPad newcomer, I don't get how pressure sensitivity can come with just an update to the operating system and the right software, and without the tablet being entirely rebuilt to accommodate anything other than stylus position. I would have thought a more obvious solution would be a stylus with a retractable nib (much like traditional tablet styluses) which transmitted the pressure information back to the tablet via wifi or a lead.

  • does the ipad 2 have a less latency time?

  • Ten One say we have to wait until Apple's operating system can be made to accept pressure sensitivity: As a non iPad user this mean we should wait until a future iPad, or can you just update the operating system on current hardware (and would it cost)? I wouldn't want to get an iPad2 then find it's redundant when this becomes available.

  • Capacitive touch is better, you can't do multi touch with film screens.

  • SELL IT TO WACOM SO I CAN FUCKING USE DIS SHIOT!

  • some seriously bad lag there when drawing.

  • Who wants to HAVE TO use pressure? That takes all the fun out of using the iPad. All of the STYLUS-R-US stylus require zero pressure and will blow you away at their ability to draw and take notes and everything else. Nothing like a no pressure stylus.

  • seriously the Ipad 3 needs to have pressure sensitivity to get way ahead of all the competition - if this happens then wacom and all the pen tablet crap can kiss my ass - why because it would rock - I see apple releasing a display that is pressure sensitive and can accurately produce pressure - much like retina display for your finger or capacitive pen - Lets hope that the next version of the ipad has this feature AS ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS WILL FLOOD THE MARKET TO BUY IT.

  • @maayaa77 I agree... it would be game over for for Lenovo and HTC if Apple were to do the stylus right. No tablet maker yet seems aware that there are artists out there that would LOVE at tablet that supports pressure sensitivity well enough to be a real tool. Back in the early PC days, high end audio cards with multiple inputs became avail and a whole new home/small biz recording studio industry kicked into gear. I think the same could happen with the right pen and app support for tablets.

  • @maayaa77

seconded. i still do not understand why apple disabled this feature. though i still dont think apple will make it happen in ipad3.. they just dont care what customers want, they care about what makes most money for them

  • 0:50 drawing tits ?

  • My interest is in velocity sensitivity more than pressure sensitivity but I've seen similar demonstrations using the same techniques for both.

That this effects both music and art creation should be an embarrassment to a company that regards itself as THE media platform.

  • @caseyandtim

velocity sense sounds great for the music apps it would be amazing and painting and sketching -WOW

  • hhe drew a bi

  • Yes, many commentary bout how great this thing you`ve done, but to me this whole thing was rather a bad news. Why? Let`s see "We can improve iPad software, now, yes! But apple wont let us, so go masturbate till iOS6, see ya" This is how this all looks to me. Syrsly, make app for cydia. It`s not supposed to be free, it`s just should be. Photoshop in the pocket.

  • Man, if they added the pressure sensitivity, I would so get the iPad... I'm sure more artists will get one and artists that have one will sure upgrade :) please convince Apple and Jobs to add this! Its practically begging for it! The pen is not dead and neither is pressure sensitive tablets like the HTC Flyer! I won't get that tablet because of bugs, but if you guys somehow do this, I'm iPad all the way baby!

  • nth special man!

  • nth special man!

  • i couldnt care less about the pressure sensitivity but im extremley insterested in the palm rejection

  • signed in just to thumbs this up :D

this should be FORCED on dev's :P

  • I WANT IT!!!! NOW!!!!!

  • Please develop it!!!

  • WHEN oh when will this be released?

I'll buy an iPad when this is available. :-)

  • OUTSTANDING! It was about time, guys. Can it be used on any other, bigger touchscreen laptops and LCD tablet monitors? iPad is great for sketching, but we need at least 19" for hi-end digital painting and comic art painting. Godspeed!

  • 0:50

    He draws a boob.

  • Theres a lag needs work.

  • wow its like all my dreams are coming true!

  • Congratulations, you have invented something for apple that has been standard in every other pen tablet for like 20 years.

  • Just buy a real tablet computer instead of plying with this retarded apple run PCs, Jesus Christ, open your freakin eyes

  • Is this an app you need to download or is it built in like the "notes" application? or something like that...?

  • I would buy an iPad for this. This is a killer app for the iPad.

  • too slow

  • Seriously...seriously...SERIOUSLY...I need this. Words cannot describe the necessity...PLEASE...PLEAAASSSE find a way to release this!

  • hmmm isn't it true that ipad 2 has a dual processor that enables multitasking enabling the pressure sensitivity software to run in the background without having to be in the framework... is this pressure sensitivity a reality yet? I'm ready to buy a working product.

  • @longhairedartist Sadly no it may come in 5.0 but not yet. Steve Jobs would have a field day with this technology even if he hates the stylus.

  • I would so buy that .

  • please make this reality!

  • pls make this happend!!

  • If this became a standard in ipads i would consider buying it. For now i cant think of a good enough reason to buy it...

  • 0:52 boobie.

  • really, sketching is the ONLY reason I'd want an ipad. With no pressure sensitivity, it's useless to me. If this became a standard for the ipad, then I'd really look into it.

  • Mr Entrepernur24, your styluses are not for sketching! Either you are a liar or dont know any shit about sketching!

  • WARNING!!Let me warn you about a stylus called iwand or any others from this site beststylusDOTcom!!! Worst product!!! it becomes useless in couple of hrs.

DONT BUY!! They will scam you with a shitty product which hardly works.

  • Pressure? Who wants to use pressure when using a stylus? STYLUS-R-US styluses require absolute ZERO pressure. beststylusDOTcom

  • The software is there. Sketch book pro is a great app. Along with the other ones that are out there.

  • We really need this to happen for ipad. Then we have a perfect thing to sketch up quick ideas and even complex art work. The way it is now just doesn't work great at all. Pressure sensitive stylus is needed. I hope apple will realize that making this possible on ipad will be part of the evolution that steve jobs talks about. The tablet becoming the main computing source. I Don't see this being the case if the millions of designers in the world can't use this to create art work properly.

  • Any news on Apps using it?

  • Jailbreak that sh1t

  • It's been 6 months since you first teased us with this. How 'bout letting us know specifically which of the private API's you need to go public and the rest of us can petition Apple to release them as "enhancements" to the iPad SDK.

Either that, or let Apple buy your code. We need this functionality desperately!

  • Wise words from a buddy over at Apple:

"The more squeaky a certain feature gets, the more attention it receives. TenOne shows something cool, but they go on the bottom of the priority list if they keep quiet. If iOS Engineering isn't being pressured by developers (via bug reports) then they're not going to be putting too much emphasis on implementing it."

  • I would like to see this company offer a stylus with a Wacom pen like tip rather than it's current rounded tip. That, with the above technology would give most users a Wacom like ability on the iPad. That would be great.

  • wont get an ipad until there is a pressure sensitivity ether in form of a software or is a new feature for the Ipad 2.

  • I've been waiting for this code since June :/ I have several ideas I'd love to implement but which requires pressure sensitivity. Can you give a hint as to which API calls you are using? :)

  • @nevyn it looks and acts like sketchbookPro

  • But it's not available yet? Like, I should wait to buy the Ipad until the code is released? Is what I'm gathering here correct?

  • @mattfitzh2o Unfortunately they use unsupported API calls that apple really frowns upon. Until apple adds those API functions to the officially supported functions, this app is not be allowed in the App store.

  • That reacts like the signature pads that you use in the store to sing for your credit card, slow and has lag

  • OMG He drew a naked lady!!!!

  • Sick of being caught up in the "buying & trying" game of iPad, iPhone & iTouch Styluses - only to see they all require a downward pressure that becomes tiring and a pain? There's only one stylus in the world that has NO DOWNWARD pressure. Check our STYLUS-R-US at beststylusDOTcom.

  • wait...

Is this stylus suppose to completely mimick how lines are drawn with the finger?

The pressure you put on the pen affects the surface area that is in contact with the iPad. More surface area means larger lines... correct?

If so, why is it that you can draw lines of different thicknesses with your stylus but you cant do the same thing with your own finger? (pressure to surface area relationship is same).

My guess would be the app developed here is more important than the actual stylus.

  • I knew somebody would do something like this (':

    Thanks!

I hope I can soon use my iPad with pressure sensitivity :D

  • Too bad Wacom doesn't come out with a portable Cintiq.

  • laaag! looks too laggy

  • i want this on my iphone 4, the palm rejection looked like it's exactly what i need

  • Now, if this is possible I just might consider buying an iPad.

  • This is cool, but the pogo is really frustrating. I have one for my Touch and it's so difficult to get a good line out of it unless you press really hard. Meanwhile, my Cintiq responds to the most sensitive little stroke and tiny little details. Might be different on the Ipad though. I don't like drawing with a brush though. Would rather a point, but I know it can't be done.

  • I rather not. I dont want to hurt the screen. I rather to use finger than a stylus on this expensive screen. no thanks.

  • Is the source library available yet? I want to email this to some developers.

  • I think this is better than you say it should be.imagine a real drawing..pencil on paper. The lighter you press the pencil the lighter shade the colour will be..the same with the ipad

  • Will you guys submit the demo app to the store, just to see if Apple will accept it?

  • If you can do this the iPad would actually become somewhat useful for content creation rather than just consumption.

The problem is this is totally the sort of thing Apple will reject from the appStore, and the other problem is that it still isn't good enough to do what I want it to do as an illustration professional. Apple *really* need to release an iPad PRO which beats the Cintiq for functionality. I'd buy one instantly.

  • What are the specs? I can't seem to find the lpi of sensitivity on the ipad, and what pressure sensitivity have you guys got with the pen?

  • @flufflesthepancake the pressure is inferred by the size of the spongy tip on the screen, (the harder you press, the more of it touches the screen) similarly to how their 'Inklet' application for macbook track pads works.

This really is not comparable to the digitizing technology companies like Wacom have, since it's an analog system, not digital with a pressure sensor. However it has the upside of being cheap and not requiring any modification to the device.

  • @JohannesShadow I didn't know that. What about putting the pressure sensitive lmechanism in the pen itself? I suppose that would be costly because you need to fit the mechanism plus bluetooth plus battery in the pen... but that's what I thought this pen did until I read your comment. Gotta say, as a Wacom use, the pen demonstrated above is probably a gimmick.

  • @fuaburisu Yeah, I've definitely thought about that. would like to make a prototype at some point, but such light-pressure sensors with such a low yet precise range are not very common, and definitely not cheap. a small bluetooth module like that could probably just be taken from most bluetooth cellphone headsets, they're normally pretty small and not too expensive

Wacom's technology is really sophisticated. there's a reason replacement pens cost 30+ dollars even for their most low-end tablets.

  • You should create a cydia application that only allows stylus input.

  • AMAZING!

finally developers are realizing the potential of an ipad,

no more thick heavy wiring of the cintiq,(+ the $2000 price tag)

now, every creative professional will be walking around with a ipad in his hand!

    THANKYOU THANKYO THANKYOU!!!!!!!

can apps like sketchbook pro implement this in their software into the app without apples restrictions at the moment?

(mabye you should now try figuring out how to make a stylus with a thinner knib work on the ipad!)

    POGO NEEDS A DIET!

  • I would love to get my hands on this. Can't wait to try it out! Great work Ten One team!

  • In all, myPadmedia is an excellent source of content for iPad owners. The wide range of available ebooks includes incredible titles, and there is no limit to what you can select.

Its ease of use and the high level of support make it a great choice relative to the competition.------------FREEiPadDownload. net

  • This shit is for noobs who doesn't understand pen pressure and sensitivity.

  • @kingsofgrooove Well it certainly isn't for Wacom fanboys who think everyone should drop $1K+ for wired monitors w/ battery free styli. Hopefully this will light a fire up Wacom's greedy asses so that they lower their prices and/or improve their aging designs.

  • im getting an ipad when this comes out :)

  • Such a massive stylus tip leaves me unenthusiastic. As someone who uses his wacom every single day the thing holding me back from the iPad is the lack of pressure sensitivity and accurate styluses.

Even this elegant solution looks decades behind anything a proper tablet can do.

    :(

  • wow, the moment this app becomes available, I'm springing in to get an iPad!

  • Fantastic.

  • Its funny how people complain about considering all the tablet pcs with lag equal or worse than this. Looking at Wacom tablet's border jitter, cursor jumping, cloudy screens caused by scratching etc., I wouldn't knock this early proof of concept especially if you have no idea how it or the iPad works.

I hope this app matures quickly. This could potentially solve so many problems with drawing on capacitive screens.

  • so how does it work? is the pen bluetooth?

  • The lag is horrible

  • what is this song

  • @jdsaxyman The song is called Emergency by Passions. It's so sick

  • hey,

im not that informed, but hasn't the iPad, as well as the iPhones have, a capacitive touchscreen and can only be controled by a finger? Or did you use a special pen?

what is it? am I wrong with the technical stuff?

  • @Syphdias the pen has a conductive foam tip

  • It would be great ! Can't wait to get one :)

  • It's absurd to think that they'd need to doctor the video - all you have to do is drop a pressure sensitive device into the tip - the whole thing might be able to be energized without a battery via the capacitive nature of screen. Then you talk out over bluetooth to the device, and they've got it down. It's totally sweet and will hopefully be picked up for Sketchbook Pro/Brushes.

  • It will never get past apples bullshit. Release it to the jailbreak community and at least you will see some decent apps made out of it.

  • It will never get past apples bullshit. Rlease

  • I want nothing more than true stylus/pressure sensitivity use with the iPad. The Pogo stylus is far from a perfect stylus (spongey stop makes a lot of artwork tricky) but this looks like a true step in the right direction. Well done guys =) Now can you convince Apple to work with Wacom and create a true all-in-one? A Goomba can dream!

  • @goomba478 Apple anounced they are making their own stylus, lets hope its sharper :D

  • wow, i want it one!

  • Great work!!

I guess Apple will consider it a private framework/ hack (?) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys! It would definitely add value to the iPad, especially for artists! Typing on the touch keyboard is probably much faster than pen writing - but drawing! There's the potential!

  • that pretty cool i wonder how they do it

  • If the lag issue can be resolved and if Adobe would ever make a lean and serious version of Photoshop for the iPad, we can all kiss Wacom goodbye.

  • Very cool guys. Being able to turn off palm and finger detection is in my opinion the best feature so far. Now you guys need a real stylus, not that crappy sponge thing that you are using. And what's up with the lag? I want to be able to do calculus on the thing. Oh and maybe a little hand writing recognition?

  • I get a free ipad and would like this app, but what if you want if you want to draw with your finger?

  • why was the lights dimed when showing the demo? iam not very sure but i smell a doctored video, to hide the reflections so u can bluescreen in the demo...a more convincing demo would be holding the ipad on in your hands while writing..jus my 2cents and no iam not trying to be a smartass here..

  • @d61helix So it focuses just on the screen and drawing.

It's also more distinct and clear I guess.

  • @saiisthebest maybe so, but still i find it hard to understand how its technically possible, unless the ipad itself is pressure sensitive(which i assume its not, if not apple would hve implement pressure sense in the 1st place), and also unless theres some way the ipad can communicate with the pen... iam no expert thou..

  • @d61helix I too was wondering how it's all done. How do they do it? You don't have to use a special pen or something? Isn't the iPad sensitive to small electric currents from your fingertips? If so, they've probably created a library that is able to use that and convert it into a virtual pressure sensitivity module.

  • Like - get it on.

  • it will never work for taking notes.. its just too fucking laggy and slow ..

  • Will this work with an existing pogo sketch, or do I need a new one ?

  • I pad isnt great for anything, its video is invalid!

  • im gonna buy an ipad, wen i can use it aas a wacom tablet....

  • music

  • I have to admire these software developers and the lengths they'll go to in order to overcome the iPad's limitations for inking (writing/drawing), simply because Apple didn't bother to add a Wacom EMR pen digitizer in there like a typical Tablet PC. That's really the only thing I have against the iPad hardware-wise.

And as for why you'd want to use something like this instead of pen and paper? What if it develops into something like OneNote?

OneNote + Tablet PC = student's best friend.

  • This is way too cool.

  • Cool.

  • I used to think the iPad was a stupid device but once you actually have one in your hand.... Amazing. Simply amazing. The internet in your hands, phenomenal.

  • the delay is bullshit.... fail!

  • nice project.... [;)]

  • very cool

  • put it out there ten 1! good job

  • i pad is fucking RETARDED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still seems like a hack... Pogosketch is still like drawing with a crayon and palm rejection is almost always an average workaround solution. Such a shame that Apple have made a tablet device that is practically useless for sketching and drawing (contrary to your intro) compared to other solutions. Until Apple take inking seriously my iPad will continue to gather dust...

  • @oztabletpc why did you even buy one now? let it collect dust on the store shelve as your collects little to no interest in a bank full of skanks.

  • @thisREGISTERATIONsuc I have a 64Gb Wifi Model and I got it from the US before it was released in Australia. I have to say that I do use it for eBook reading (so gathering dust may be a slight exageration) but that's pretty much it. Browsing is far too clunky and inking is out of the question. It might be just fine for you, but I have alternatives that are insanely better at my disposal.

  • @oztabletpc I don't believe you even have an iPad. If it's collecting dust why didn't you return it within 30 days or sell it to someone that wants it?

  • @medhatalberta You can not believe me all you like, still doesn't change the fact that I've had one since the US launch... As I assist people with all sorts of Tablet PCs I have it here for reference, demonstration and training.

  • he drew a bewb!

  • yh take notes that u carnt even fucking read cuze of the fucking gay lag

  • @20graffiti08 Fail.

  • This is an encouraging development for artists who want to use the iPad. I'm much closer to getting an iPad after seeing this. When will this be released ?

However I have to say I wish you'd make a fine point stylus (like a Wacom stylus) , instead of the thick, soft "spongy" tip .

  • @CapraCorn2006 The thick tip is a limitation of the hardware. Until apple release an active stylus and facilitate an interface with it in their software there will not be a decent solution to that for iPad. The way Steve Jobs calls it, that will be never.

  • @oztabletpc there's a chance... steve jobs has made 180-degree turns on a few notable occasions, the biggest certainly being the entire app store.

  • @nwatts88 True, personally I hope so. Apple probably wouldn't be able to keep up with demand for years if they delivered half decent note-taking capabilities like you get from a Wacom Tablet PC, but for the price of an ipad.

  • thumbs up if you watched this because you saw it on multitouchfans

  • wow, that makes me wonna choose ipad over android based device, the ipad is really something, but damn,no flash.....

  • GUYS THE LAG IS DUE TO THE SOFTWARE AND THE SOFTWARE STILL NEEDS TO BE DEVELOPED. IT IS NOT A LIMITATION OF THE IPAD. THERE ARE PLENTY OF IPAD DRAWING SUITES THAT HAVE ZERO LAG. IF THIS GOT APPROVED THEY WOULD SURELY CREATE A LIBRARY WHICH HAS NO LAG AT ALL.

  • It makes me sad to think Apple might let this fall through.... fuck apple do something right for a change!!!!

  • he drew a boob!

  • STAB IT!

    STAB IT TO DEATH!

  • Too much lag. Can anything be done to fix it?

  • @wrcousert the hardware is barely developed [ i cant say the software isnt... i recognized that app... its available for Mac, and i have it..

  • the only problem is that its a bit laggy

  • it has a nasty delay when you write on it.. that just messes me up >.< nothing beats paper when it comes to a writing surface =P

  • people need to understand that digital is a different medium and comes different results than paper. Every medium has its value.

  • For only six hundred dollars, you can do the the same thing a ten cent pen and paper does! Revolutionary!

  • @SaviorSixtySix Only you can do it 10,000 times with an iPad without ever having to buy a new one.and a couple other bells and whistles that paper can't accomplish.

  • @SaviorSixtySix Since when does paper light up?

  • Sweet with a 25cent pen and piece of paper i can do the same thing

  • @Nibiru420 Your paper doesnt have an erase button. your paper doesnt have a backlight.

  • I clicked this video because the Thumbnail looked like the "Stylish pen" is used to press against the Ipad screen and the *Drawings* looked like cracks on the screen.

    Sad.. :(

  • I CALLED IT!! Man, did I call it.

When the iPad was announced I was like "If those guys who made the Pogo Stick made a pressure sensitive version of it they'd not only win over so many artists by making the iPad the ultimate artist companion, but they'd be rolling in money.

THANK YOU, my mates now think I'm a prophet.

  • Tablet PCs have been around for more than ten years. Apple hasn't innovated anything with the iPad.

  • awesome job man!

  • Check out the OmniSketch App!

  • That's the kind of iPad I might like.

  • why not just write on a fucking piece of paper...

  • its might be really interesting or it might be just as simple to detect presure distributed on a small surface like that pen and not presure distrubuted on a big surface like your hand

  • From their website:

Note: The small drawing lag in the video is an issue with our demo application code, and isn't a limitation of the iPad or the pressure-sensitive library.

  • aweseom!!!!

  • talking about electronics i say;

    youtube.com/watch?v=uV05PFX0lwQ

  • I want one Now!

    plavers

  • What case is that?

  • show me a tablet that does not lag when you write super fast. i use a pogo stylus on a hand writing recognition app and its not bad at all. all you guys who are complaining are just ill informed haters and in turn devaluing the ipad which makes us the user look bad. that is why i must address your comments/whining lol stop it

  • great. what the song

  • Not trying to be a Apple fanboy or anything. But I think the lag between the pen strokes is bad programming on their part. I've seen other demonstrations with sketching that had virtually no lag.

  • Haha...gotta love the lag behind the writing...I people think that Apple products are superior.

  • Thanks for the demo.....
