I think this guy is great -- he really seems to put HIMSELF into his music. That is what sets this apart from the typical "stuffy" classical music. This is how classical music ought to sound.
i always felt that vivaldi mixed the beauty of classical strings with the spirit of heavy metal (particualry in the four seasons: winter and summer)... so since i was very young i always felt that vivaldi's music was violent and fucking shredding... but its beauty also lends different takes on it... thats just what i always felt
when this style of music was really popular it was customary for the soloist to improvise and embellish alot, so it would really be in the spirit of the piece if he improvised that part.
another interesting thing is that kennedy cuts up the first movement and adds a sort of "attacca" between where the movements are really supposed to end...
The thing is, the first half of this video isn't really 'Autumn II', it's a slow passage during the first movement, followed by an outro - the ritornello of the main theme, as we hear. It's the second half that's the actual slow movement. Interesting too, I wasn't aware of it having a solo violin part, on my recording it just sounds like harpsichord with some light strings - is this Nigel Kennedy improvisation? Or at least rehearsed improvisation, if such a thing exists? Either way, it's good!

The trouble with NIGEL Kennedy is that he is such a pretentious little pseud. First he drops his middle-class accent and puts on a phoney working class one, now he thinks he is so famous that he can totally drop his first name, like he's Madonna or summat!
That's not his trouble - that's his privilege. He's had a chequered career, but he's a fantastic talent, a great musician and personality. He's very much himself, not a fraud, and more capable of being a real human being on stage than most people are. He lives for the moment in the music instead of concentrating all his efforts into the perfect execution of a pre-planned performance. Power to yer Nige - shine on and thanks for all the brilliant moments and new ideas you've given the music world,

The funny thing about Nigel Kennedy is that he doesn't play in the Baroque style, but he plays in the Baroque spirit.

Whoops, caught the end of autumn I in there.
I'm glad he could slow down enough to play autumn 2 with the somber respect it deserves.

What an incredible feel for music Nigel has. We owe something to Jimi Hendrix and the electric guitar here, and yet how peaceful...how harmonious...
