I can't fathom what it might cost to heat and cool a home this big... mind-boggling! It sure is beautiful

@75capriceconvertible I got to speak to the owner once very briefly when he was out in the yard and I asked him what it was like to heat and cool--he said it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter, they wore lots of sweaters! I'm sure originally it had steam heat from a boiler throughout.  Today I'm sure they heat only the parts they use and you can tell by the window units they cool only selectively. I'm sure it's very drafty, too!

@NDrLoR yup, that would be a downside to a home like this. My auntie's house was originally a boiler then sometime later was converted to gas, but she still had those ornate radiators in every room. They were actually attractive.

@75capriceconvertible Oh definitely! Nothing was left without embellishment in those days, unlike today when everything is plain and ugly.
