I love feeding wild pigeons. They're so skittish and frightened at first but they grow to trust you if you give them time, and it's lovely having one sit on your hand whilst your stroke its back. Their feathers are unbelievably soft. Having a happy cooing pigeon trust you just lights me up, it's not a nice feeling when everything is afraid of and won't come near you. And yet in London they made feeding the wild pigeons illegal. Thousands died. At least it's still legal in other places.
I love how no one on this channel has the attention span to listen to your video where you CLEARLY state that her being the "world's largest parakeet" is a joke. :/
haha i loved this video! Zoey is amazing!! extremely smart and i love the way u see birds rather than just seeing them as stupid animals that shouldnt be around, and the bond between you and zoey is phenomanol i can tell that if she were too die early u would be wrecked and same goes for her amazing! :D
@tdrewman I mean you really don't see how absurd your comment is? Birds are scared to death of humans! For a bird to be taking cookies from babies is a sign that it is literally STARVING! And in case you don't know this ... humans are not indigenous to Florida either, so get over your human power trip and figure out how to introduce a natural food source for these ducks so they don't have to rely on humans for food.
@snowball525 no... i've never heard of a cockatiel 3-4 times bigger than its usual size, skin patches on it's eyes, and that it CLEARLY says that it's a little corella. believe me, i know what a cockatiel looks like...
@AugustusDragonSpirit Zoey was trained to fly on command for almost 2 years before she went outside. It started with her flying to me to get a treat, then flying from the top of a door to the floor, and then some walks outside to get her used to being outdoors. I don't recommend you try this unless you know how to train your bird properly.
@wingmagic You don't get it - the purpose of free-flight training is so that you DON'T lose your bird ... a bird that is trained to "come" is not going to "escape" because she is not a prisoner. In all reality, Zoey is in less danger outside than you are driving down the freeway.
@rossskate2k9 Because I flight trained Zoey to fly to me indoors before I ever took her outside. Zoey was trained for over a year before her first free flight. I hope to one day do a video explaining my training techniques. : )
Ive had my parakeets for about 1 year now and i havnt gotten my bird to get on my hand, i feed them and water them everyday and put my hand in their cage about 1 time a week for 5 mins for them to get use to them. Your bird is soo cool =)
That is awesome!!! Zoey is so cute! And that is crule that they shot poor birds that are just trying to live, i mean people dont shoot us at wal-mart trying to buy food, that just makes my so angry!
You seem to be amazing with Birds. I never had one to care for myself, cept for a few pigeons with broken wings who were nursed back to help by my sister and I. They seem quite cute, your birdies :)
I have a cat but because she interacted in her earlier days with dogs and birds she is now dog friendly and even big dogs dont scare her. And about the birds? She's afraid of birds :D
great message too - we destroy the resources of our wild birds - paving over their food, knocking down their nests, and bringing in cat and dog predators where they didn't have them before. i love cats (my best friend for 16 years), but we have to also protect what is left of the bird populations. how else are they supposed to eat and survive if we don't help them?
look how smart birds are - scientists now believe they are dinosaurs. they deserve to survive!!
Kudos to you mentioning the Carolina Parakeet. My dream is that one little known aviary will have a breeding pairs (silly, I know). I do know of a lady who had a macaw, she thought it was an Amazon of sorts, had had to trlinquish it because of health reasons. It turned out to be a Spix Macaw. Too old for breeding, but a Spix nonetheless. Can you imagine!?
Hey Joe.. Great bird.. Yeah I believe in letting my too having space also. Making a free flyer is a great thing for them and you. But there is always that chance of a hawk or whatever coming down and doing the snatch and run. I have so far made a free flyer out a of a greenwing and a lesser sulfer crested too. Since then I have lost them to a break up wth a old relation. I know have a Umbrella Too 17 weeks old. She will be a free flyer also. Great vids, keep them comin
hey, i've trained horses and dogs for over 20years, but i just got my first parakeet. I havent a cluue how to get him to relax. I interact with him many times thru out the day, try to feed him by hand, but he refuses, and wont make any progress. Its been about 3weeks now, &the only thing he does better now than when i got him is not go crazy flying around the cage when i put my hand in. Any advice for me? He wil stand on my finger, only briefly.
Feed him. I hold their little food dishes (seen at 3:08) in my hand and they eat off of my hand. That is how you get birds to trust you, you feed them. For parakeets, letting them eat millet from your hand is good too.
How is Zoey doing? If you change the description to say "Zoey is a Bare Eyed Cockatoo, otherwise known as a Little Corella" you will get more views on this video I think because it will come up as a related video to Frostie's videos.
Yes, Corella's are cockatoos ... Zoey is a "Little Corella", which is also known as the "Bare Eye Cockatoo" because they have no feathers around their eyes.
dats sooo sick, i lost my congo one time for 2 weeks and den wen i was swimming in my pool it somehow found his way and scared the living fuck out of me.
Your bird is still in danger by being outside....alot of hawks have grabbed people's parrots while out and flew off with them. Cute birds! They obviously love you which means they are given lots of love!
woow I just LOVE Zoey, I have this cockatiel named Doris and she is really cute, a little bity sometimes, but yeah she can really kiss me sometimes :) and I think just like you they should not feed that lazy lady.. no I haven't fed a wild bird but I fed my lil' doris, saw some small birds, and fed my neighbour's chickend and rooster :)
Doh I forgot to mention.. This is OverTheRaynbow BTW. We still have Cocoa that we havn't adopted in a year yet. But she has now learned a lot of social manners and went to a event at a local elementry school. finally someone says what A nice bird can I adopt it?
Now I am scared that NOW she is so sweet do we want to easily adopt her out? We seriously need responsible adopters.
It is so hard with the big birds. They are not for everyone.
Generally speaking, they really only fight over perch space like all other parakeets tend to do. Sometimes Magnolia will dive-bomb her when she is on my shoulder, other times Magnolia will preen her tail feathers for her. So they basically behave like parakeets.
wow that was great , i got a little nervous when they was on the roof and the dog was baring, my heart did double time, but he loves his daddy too much to let that come between him and you that was great!!!
Thank you for compliments ... the dogs are my neighbors and were in a pen, they are of no threat to Zoey ... I was really just making conversation with her there, not that she understands me - lol - I just talk to her like she can all the time. :D
AWESOME BIRD! I have a 1 yr old BE2 and he is the sunshine in my day!
They are so amazing! SugarBear is fully flighted, but at the moment he can't get much time flying. But we're moving to a new house where I have a room just for my birds (also have a 18 yr old DYHA and 3 budgies) and then we'll be able to work on flying and targeting. I know the actual freeflying is YEARS of training down the road. But vids like yours show me the rewards down the road if I just work on it.
Thats really awesome - having a room just for your birds, mine live in my bedroom with me and it gets crowded. It only took a little over a year to free flight Zoey, I'm going to do another video revealing some of training techniques sometime this summer. :)
Thanks for such a lovely time with Zoey. You work very well with her. I do worry about flying outdoors. . I would love to see if Zoey enjoyed my Angels video.
Wow, I'm amazed! Bird Talk editorials generally advise against both letting pet birds fly outside and keeping large birds amongst smaller ones, but your exceptional cockatoo is an obvious exception to those rules.
Your video was rather long at over 6 minutes, but it was entertaining and captivating throughout its duration. Well done!
Zoey is amazing!!!! Zoey we love you !!!! This is a splendid video--so well done & the message portrayed is one which is so worth while promoting!!!! I will be honoured to have your video as a video response to my STOP ANIMAL ABUSE video!!! THANKYOU!!!!!
You are most welcome!!! I would love to post my video as a response to your splendid video but sadly at the moment my webcam isn't working--in fact i'm going have to buy a new one!!!
You don't need a webcam - just click the "Post a Video Response" link above the comments, the click "Choose a Video" ... and then select your video on the list. And if anyone else has a cockatoo/parakeet video, feel free to post it as a response too - Zoey loves watching other birdies.
Oh i didn't know that!!! I will defenitely try that one out!!! I do have a couple of friends here on YT who have lovely birds--i will defenitely tell them all about Zoey!!! THANKYOU!!!!
She was an unwanted bird, I don't know how old she is. When I first got her, she was in the very early stages of feather plucking - a habit I've been able to discourage (knock on wood). I don't have any kids, so she pretty much gets all of my attention.
We are very very careful - I always go outside first to check the conditions. We check for hawks, as well as wind, and just make sure everything is calm. She never goes outside in the dark, dusk, or dawn when miskitos are out. We also train her to perch in places where wild birds do not (like the roof on the video, wild birds don't seem to perch on roof tops so they are clean).
Of course you are careful! I wasn't implying you aren't! Some people drink and/or smoke pot and get careless! AND I'm NOT implying you do either or are careless. Birds see in color and a white bird is very easily spotted. I take Frostie "hopping" outside in the grass and he loves it!
I know, I'm just afraid people are going to think I just woke up and decided to take Zoey outside ... then lose their bird trying to take it outside too. I'm thinking I should do another video going into details on how I trained Zoey to help prevent that, I would hate to think a bird gets lost emulating Zoey and I.
Bravo! The outdoor birds have every right to fly wherever they want and be fed. The woman who initiated the request for that law should be ashamed of herself. Very good video!!!
This is a beautiful cockatoo and well cared for and trained. It's amazing how you can let him be free and fly. The bond you two share is also amazing!
Nice video, I also enjoyed getting to see another side of you JoeJoe.
The regular guy just talking shop kinda guy! I'm going to check out all
of your other videos up. I never even knew you had videos on your site.
Thanks again Bro'!
I always got your back man!

And if we had found Frostie's video before we filmed this, she would have DIFFIDENTLY made the list! Your bird can really dance!

I'm sure you would have! Did you see the video of Frostie dancing while watching his video air on Ellen? It's quite hilarious!
