Agreed. This 2012 model looks like it's a revamped version of a 2002 Ford Focus for heaven's sake! Subaru's styling was much better at the end of the 90s and into early 2000. Looks like I'll be hanging onto my old '98 for a while yet.

Emme, I am in the market for a new car. I was looking at getting a Honda Civi LX, manuel transmission. That is until I read that the new (non-hybrid) Hondas are experiencing some battery problems. It seems that after a 3-4 days of not running a new 2012 Honda the battery will start to drain and die. The dealerships are saying that this is due to back ground technology running off of the battery even when the car is off. Any help would be awesome! Your videos are very helpful, thanks a million!
Great review emme hall! Does the CVT improve acceleration ?? I'm not very familiar with driving a car with a Cvt, but I've heard that it sometimes revs the engine so high that the noise intrudes into the cabin. What are your thoughts and opinions of the hatchback version impreza ??
@18switchfoot I own a 99 Legacy wagon with the 2.2 auto, this car is like mine but stiffer i felt the drive was smoother because it doesn't shift since it has no gears. alot of people complain of a whine i never heard anything.
Screw Xenon, the new LED technology is the future. Its brighter and lasts way way longer then the Xenon and it costs less. I never thought that the auto manufacturers would use it but Audi is already using it on they're new models. So I'm sure a lot of manufacturers will follow.

On a positive note, the hatch/wagon variant looks awesome in the 'red' colour shown in this video. IMHO the vehicle is a much more visually appealing from the rear and side views.
That is definitely an FB engine. During my time at Subaru, I ran into a lot of these engines. They're very easy to service as they do not need to be lifted for an oil change & there is no need to deal with "Satan's Manifold" as I have named it.

Hatch or sedan? I was convinced I wanted the hatch, with the sedan not even being an option because I thought it looked so...plain. But now, not so sure. Yes, the hatch has the cargo space, but I'm never hauling cargo. And lately the sedan is really beginning to grown on me(not like a fungus). Looks especially good in Subaru silver too. That, and it's 500 bucks cheaper than the 5-door. Anyone?
@hawkermustang Are you serious? If so you must live in a warm climate like Florida or California or in some tropical country. I live in a region that gets lots of snow. I also own a 2007 Impreza which has gotten me to work on unplowed roads with 2 feet of snow on them. Your question seems silly to me.
at 1 min, a turbo in a couple of years? But then go onto saying that the car is not meant to be fast, so if people want a fast impreza, go get the WRX else enjoy this commuter scooter (what it was designed for). Overall, a good quick review, but I would have avoided the turbo aspect or at least mentioned the loosely related WRX & STI for those wanting performance
IMO Subaru just gets uglier and uglier with the image of their cars but that will hopefully change with the BRZ, really dislike the tone of blue Subaru uses aswell :(
when it comes to criticism, roadfly tv seems to concentrate more on the good parts of the car rather than the bad parts. emme didnt even mention the styling of the car which i personally think is getting worse by the model. the back is acceptable but the front is fugly.. i guess ill have to wait for the sti but im still doubtful.
1. i think caranddriver tested the manual at 0-60 in 8.3 secs, which is respectible, 9.8 secs with the cvt is pathetic 2. i read somewhere that the manual has a full time subuaru awd system whlie the cvt has a part time system to save fuel. Conclusion: i'd go with the manual or nothing at all

@tommiedatrip I think they have lost thier heritage. The BRZ STi "Concept" is only available in rear wheel drive and will not have a turbo! I speculate that the STi Impreza will have a similar powertrain.
@giannial1985 Thats like asking why doesn't every car manufacturer put HID headlights in theirs car. No one knows why they don't. Maybe for cost reasons.
@soyntgo4it I think you haven't understood what he was trying to say. 2008-2011 models had projector beams (not HID). Only the Sti came with the HIDs. The fact that they came back from projectors to normal boring headlights is a downgrade. You cannot compare that to cutting costs on car productions. False analysis.
@Johnyboy775 Its for cost reasons true analysis. there really isn't much difference with projected lamps and regular and I have had both styles. Now HIDs . BTW yes I can compare cause its cheaper with Regular lenses. With any lamp assembly you can modify it for HID anyway so whats the real big deal here...????

I know! I was bummed I couldn't do a laundry basket rating too. I took the train from DC to NYC to pick up the car and do the shoot and apparently Amtrak doesn't like it when you try to bring 6 laundry baskets on the Acela!
My brother just bought a 05 Impreza Wagon 2.5 RS.. It's a fun little zippy car, it's not very spacious, not very comfortable, and it's not really great at anything except the twisties. BUT, there's something about it that makes you love it, and we'll definitely be returning for another Subaru soon. The ad couldn't be more right, LOVE, is what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
I love seeing you guys review cars in town and not just on country roads. We really get to see how they blend in with the traffic and how much get up and go they really have. Great review by Emme once again!

when it comes to criticism, roadfly tv seems to concentrate more on the good parts of the car rather than the bad parts. emme didnt even mention the styling of the car which i personally think is getting worse by the model. the back is acceptable but the front is fugly.. i guess ill have to wait for the sti but im still doubtful.

1. i think caranddriver tested the manual at 0-60 in 8.3 secs, which is respectible, 9.8 secs with the cvt is pathetic 2. i read somewhere that the manual has a full time subuaru awd system whlie the cvt has a part time system to save fuel. Conclusion: i'd go with the manual or nothing at all

@datboiwes333 dude is fun as f&$# in my cooper works. Where else can you one minute have mini grand prix with a cab and the next park on the zebra, eating a hot dog waiting for the pedestrian to get out of the way!

@datboiwes333 i spent all my life driving here and its definetly one of the worst places in the world to drive next to LA. thats why all the drivers are so aggressive - theyre frustrated.

I'm an Impreza owner, and I'm not going to purchase this car. Might as well be a Toyota Corolla or a Chevy Cruze.
I didn't buy my Impreza because it had the best gas mileage in it's class, because those cars are homogenous, boring, lumps.
I purchase my Impreza for it's sportiness, unique look and rally heritage. This car has none of those things.

@moaski i hear the wrx/sti will have a different platform. They haven't lost their heritage yet. THey just want a bigger market =)

@tommiedatrip I think they have lost thier heritage. The BRZ STi "Concept" is only available in rear wheel drive and will not have a turbo! I speculate that the STi Impreza will have a similar powertrain.

@giannial1985 Thats like asking why doesn't every car manufacturer put HID headlights in theirs car. No one knows why they don't. Maybe for cost reasons.

@soyntgo4it I think you haven't understood what he was trying to say. 2008-2011 models had projector beams (not HID). Only the Sti came with the HIDs. The fact that they came back from projectors to normal boring headlights is a downgrade. You cannot compare that to cutting costs on car productions. False analysis.

@Johnyboy775 Its for cost reasons true analysis. there really isn't much difference with projected lamps and regular and I have had both styles. Now HIDs . BTW yes I can compare cause its cheaper with Regular lenses. With any lamp assembly you can modify it for HID anyway so whats the real big deal here...????

I know! I was bummed I couldn't do a laundry basket rating too. I took the train from DC to NYC to pick up the car and do the shoot and apparently Amtrak doesn't like it when you try to bring 6 laundry baskets on the Acela!

My brother just bought a 05 Impreza Wagon 2.5 RS.. It's a fun little zippy car, it's not very spacious, not very comfortable, and it's not really great at anything except the twisties. BUT, there's something about it that makes you love it, and we'll definitely be returning for another Subaru soon. The ad couldn't be more right, LOVE, is what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
