I am shure that Mr. Churchill had known of this and he had made this situation in order to get USA. on his side in the 1.Worled War ! The Lusitania had wapons and USA. statespeople on Bord. He only must look for knowledge to the Germans with spions. This he did and the German submarine did only this was usual is in warlaw . But Germans had lost this war and so all bad what had done- the Germans had done this. "Vae victis !"
The old videos of Lusitania is one of the good ways to remember the Lusitania. Even though she consider a medium size ship now, I love the graceful lines on the Lusitania. Cunard really didn't have the superstructure go to the bow until Queen Mary.
Honestly if I were in the military and they told me to pull the torpedo on that ship I would rather shoot my commanding officer first and be sent to death! Actually in that situation that is exactly what I would do rather than murder innocent people.
Shame to see such beautiful ship go down, but you cant really blame the Germans for it.. Everyone did shit like this, sinking ships whenever they could and well they did have weapons onboard.
It's today 95-years ago that the Lusitania sank. The sinking of the Lusitania would haunt Germany for years, I speak with my heart of all Dutch people that the ship wil sail in heaven for ever. Rest in peace for the people who fight for their lives inside the sinking, but were trapped inside the elevator or rooms.
hauhale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dang that german u-boat why!!!!!!????? did tey torped lusitania i understand there try to win awar and stuff but they were agised britan and lusitania was a amermica ship
@titanic1234561 Are you joking? The Lusitania was not an American ship. It was a British ship. For decades both the US and British governments denied that the Lusitania was carrying any munitions or other war supplies - a claim that is now known to be false. When they placed those munitions onto a civilian ship they made it a legitimate target.
@xexixk So for 3.3 Million rounds of .30 caliber rifle ammunition, empty 3" shells and non-explosive fuses..justified the sinking of an unarmed civilian liner?
@phantomTomcat1985 You do not put war munitions in the cargo hold of a civilian ship. Doing so makes that ship a legitimate target. If you have not read what Churchill said at the time about luring the US into the war, I would highly reccomend it. Also, those docks in New York were swarming with spies, putting those munitions in the cargo hold of the Lusitania was a very foolish act.
Are you seriously trying to argue in favor of the Lusitania being sunk? Was it wrong to send the Lusitania through the war zone? Yes, was it meant to perhaps provoke the US into the war? possibly.
Was the sinking of the Lusitania a justifiable military target? Absolutely not. It was not a legitimate military target, and Schwieger was totally out of line to INTENTIONALLY kill innocent men, women and children.
@phantomTomcat1985 In times of war one of the objectives is too prevent your enemy from getting war supplies. Putting those supplies on a civilian ship actually shows a great lack of concern for those civilian lives on the part of the people who made the decision to place them there. I can't think of any war where innocent civilians are not a part of the casualities. Situations such as this are why it is now illegal under international law to carry war supplies on a civilian ship.
@phantomTomcat1985 You are aware that previously the German u-boats would surface, allow people to leave supply ships in life boats and then sink the ship? However, after the British armed several merchant ships and then fired on the u-boats or rammed them, the Germans stopped that and just sunk them without warning. War is a nasty business that should not be taken lightly and should be avoided unless absolutely unavoidable.
@phantomTomcat1985 I understand that and I don't take anything you say as harsh, I do not mean to be harsh either. It is typically the innocent civilians who pay the greatest price for war. I'm not saying that those on the Lusitania deserved what happened to them. If you have not read about Churchill's statements at that time, I would encourage you to do so. Very interesting and disturbing stuff.
@phantomTomcat1985 Would you feel the same if this had been the reverse situation? Let's say the German liner SS Imperator (which actually remained docked during the war) was crossing the Atlantic with war munitions in its cargo hold and also full of civilian passengers and was sunk by the British - would you decry that or would you say they made the Imperator a legitimate target by carrying war munitions?
@xexixk Yes, I would decry the intentional murder of innocent civilians by the British. There is absolutely no military value in sinking an ocean liner carrying innoent men, women and children.
@bootlehistory It's been proved that there were only rifles aboard. The massive blast came from the cold water comming into contact with the hot boilers. There were no heavy weapona on board
This song is absolutely beautiful. This is such a fitting song for RMS Lusitania.

@xexixk Sure I'm aware. I'm a history major (graduating in a few months) and have studied this quite extensively.
Make no mistake about it, I'm not being harsh to you, I am simply engaging in debate.
