Well, you played it very short I guess, because it has really nice graphics. Go see Shire or Moria,those locations are created with great quality, and I must nod with you with graphics at start locations.Thanks god you played with hobbit, there is actually quite good graphics, but If you try to start as dwarf in Ered Luin you'll get obsessed. But thats just start location So never mind. In my opinion graphics in this game is a big PLUS instead of combat system,if you can handle it its still fun.
I love this game, ive tried forsaken world, perfect world. runes of magic but i lost interest in them fast, this game is really fun for me and it goes into a lot of detail with the skills, traits, and profecsions
U clearly have no idea what your talking about. The graphics, on a good pc with dx10, look amazing and are far better then RIFT. Why do you review a game and only show footage of the first 10 levels? I'm starting to wonder if u even played longer then that. U might have a point when it comes to combat, but that's only the case with some melee classes. Try playing a Lore-master, Rune-keeper, Hunter or Warden and you'll see a huge difference. Do us a favor and stop reviewing games!
Good job Davis :D I have enjoyed the series so far, not really into MMO's at all that much but TOR has me super interested so thought I would check out some f2p MMO's and see if it would be for me, since this series only involves you looking at the game for within the first 20 hours it lets me see what an experienced MMO player thinks of the first portion of playing it, and to me that would be the important part, mainly because that is the games opportunity to rope you in and make you want more!

@Willinz69 Actually combat was my main gripe, not the graphics, but regardless I'm trying to spotlight the current f2p mmos out there in an effort to hopefully get people playing games they might not otherwise have. The games I'm looking at are not old, they are still getting updated regularly and so I hold them to the same standards as every other current game. If Galaga was still being updated but kept the old graphics then I'd say the same thing about it.
@MMOMG Tbh i don't think it's too much of a problem to actually have sub-par graphics for an MMO. MMOs rely on a large volume of players and making a game require low specs opens up to a larger audience.

Sure, graphics isn't everything, but nowadays you expect at least certain level of animation quality, which even indie games usually put strong emphasis on. Besides Indies often uses stylized graphics, which by definition are good,at what they supposed to be. Here-they try realistic approach, which get old very rapidly.That's one of the reasons ToR is going with specific style,not realism.

Allods Online. Only to see how someone new to the game would react to it as it is today. Most everyone agree that beta was the best time to play that game and lots of people didn't like the tons of changes the game had, (=uber-pay-to-win cash shop) and there was a mass-rage-quit. Really, it was like an Epic-Exodus-Rage-Quit. 90% of people just would not have it. So, would a new guy coming in today without any knowledge of that past be able to enjoy the game today?

@vincentx1o6 We aren't in the year 2007. LotRO's graphics are dated, and to people playing the game now, in late 2011, they may expect more from a game they are picking up given -current- standards. It's noticeable to players. So yeah, it could be considered a con, just like Davis said.
As for reviewing, no first impression lasts a week. That's ample time to familiarize yourself with the game and its trajectory. If after a week you don't want to keep playing, the MMO isn't doing its job.

As for the graphics part, I'm giving my thoughts on how the game stands up currently, not when it launched. The entire point of this series is to show people different free games, and graphics are definitely an important factor.
@JelLoSnArK Whether or not it's intentional doesn't change the fact that it disrupts the flow of combat, and that is rarely a good thing. If they wanted combat to last longer/give people more time to make choices, they could have just increased cooldowns.
I rather enjoy LoTRO over the other MMO's, but more than likely if I started with WoW or Rift, I'd be playing that, but not all of us can pay for a monthly subscription.
In response to your comment about graphics, yeah they are dated, but this game has been out since about 2007 with no upgrades due to the fact that Turbine want most people to be able to run it.
davis, might i suggest when reviewing you take a much more critical standpoint? im not a game reviewer myself or anything. but i find its a much more enjoyable review when you instead of saying "the combat is slow, not too slow but only kinda slow" things like that would be better with more commitment to what your saying like "the combat IS slow" and elaborating on that. Im mostly thinking of a zero punctuation look at reviewing things so dont be too upset about me giving advice :P

I like ur idea to get a whole game review and break it down into different sections over the course of the week, I think you are doing a really good job so early in the series tho! even looking back at early AHWU and other online review-type series you can tell it takes a while to get ur feet under you and develop a good sense of presentation keep at it!
I love your content but, Try to come out with content that is as recent as possible. For example DCUO will be coming out free to play in October cover that the day it comes out and you draw in more views and ergo more subscriptions. Great content but, i liked it when you did separate more in depth videos about the different aspects of the game. One ~5 minute video for an overview, one ~5 minute video for game play, for graphics etc... Just trying to help one of my favorite youtubers out :)
LOTRO is mediocre. It's not that LOTRO does anything badly, I just feel like everything in LOTRO is done better by some other MMO. After playing TOR, I don't know if I could ever go back to an MMO that doesn't have all the superb voice acting. Plus, Turbine nickel and dimes the hell out of the players to get access to basic "quality of life" things like bag space, new areas, and char slots. I'll be playing STO if I play a F2P MMO, and I'll be playing TOR if I'm playing a monthly sub game.
It's an mmo and mmo's get dated pretty fast, because they can't really update the aesthetics every year. You mentioned that the game hasn't really got cutscenes etc, while it does. The main story line quests will give awesome cuntscenes with nice voice acting and such. I can continue for like 3 more full comments, but yeah. Next time please put some more time into the game and talk about more aspects, instead of just 3/4, because this was quite a plain review tbh. Tolkien fans will like it.

Davis please tell me you've played longer than till lvl 8'ish? Because you can't really review mmo's in general that way. I did notice you mentioning your char deleting problem thingy, but still. I guess you want some feedback then: Maybe make em a little longer, because for example. You didn't even mention the music option in LOTRO.

I'm playing LOTRO off and on, on max graphics. It's fine. The character models could be better, but the overall feel is great.
I do fully agree about the combat speed though. An overall boost of 30ish% would help a lot..

That's just part of the game. It's a stat that you can decrease and increase. Makes combat last longer, and gives people more time to make choices.

Davis please tell me you've played longer than till lvl 8'ish? Because you can't really review mmo's in general that way. I did notice you mentioning your char deleting problem thingy, but still. I guess you want some feedback then: Maybe make em a little longer, because for example. You didn't even mention the music option in LOTRO.
LotRO is really a game for the Tolkien fans tbh. I agree, when I played this game in 2008/2009 it was way more impressive than it is now, but still.
