  • the ultimate guide to headphones: music

  • I have the Sennheiser HD518's and They are amazing headphones. They don't look amazing , and the build quality isn't stellar, but these are amazing for instrument separation, comfort, and hearing the track how it was intended to be heard. (they don't color the music) for the 100-200 dollar range, these are the best i've tried.

  • Portapros look pretty good to me, unless you're not into the retro look.

  • The problem is that the best sounding headphone in your < 20$ category sounds better than the best sounding in 20-50$ category. I think that's something wort mentioning, also the looks is very personal thing.I personaly hated porta pro looks, just to adore it over time.

  • The problem with this video is that everyone has different sound signature preferences. One might prefer a bass head sound sig ( yes, there are Audiophilic Bass heads. ) with something like the Pro700mk.2 or the HFI-580/780. While another might prefer I brighter sound sig with a subdued low end and wider soundstage with something like the M50 or the Hd25,

A better review would be for each price range, to show the top contenders in each sound preference instead of build quality and looks.

  • i searched on audio technica's website. the i think its just called the athm50wh not the pro700

  • I have 5 pairs of headphones. I have Skullcandy 50/50s, FMJs, Uprock, Hesh, Riot MIC'D, and I have a FiiO E11, and I have to say the FMJs and Hesh are amazing, the 50/50s have good sound quality but horrible build quality, and the Uprock and Riot MIC'D are good for anyone on a budget.

  • @TheSLSAMG

... Hmm.. You say that, but how many other headphones around that price range have you listened to? Saying the Hesh and FMJ are "amazing" when you clearly haven't listened to many other things around that price is ridiculous. In fact, audiophiles actually hate the FMJ and the Hesh and are often used in jokes as the worst sound.

There are plenty of other options out there, that not only sound better, are better built, better looking, ect...

PM me if you are open to suggestions.

  • Best over-ear headphones for hip hop/rap $100 or less?

  • @Truton235 just look at some base heavy audio technikas, or shures. better than beats for 1/5th the price

  • Yes, please please please do an in-ear version!

  • I payed 60€ for my Beats by Dre studios, do you think that's in the right price range?

  • at least the beats were not in this video for sound...

  • Do in Ear plzz

  • Hey Quinn, I'm deaf in my right ear. Do you know of any good headphones in the $20-50 price range that would suit me? I'm into rock and rap.

  • does the white ath-pro700 sound good?

  • Can you make one of these for earphones?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm kind of surprised they actually really know what they're talking about :D

  • cheapest woody youll ever get ... 0_0

  • I was surprised not to see any ultrasones on here...

  • hey, do you know about the sol republic tracks hd? if so,are they better than the audio technica ath-m50's? i'm deciding on which to get.

  • @sTarT4231 the ATH-M50s are still the best sub $200 headphones. Head-fi.org rates them in the top ten of all headphones too.

  • @adiokidoable I own the ath-m50, but I think the V-Moda m80 or the tma-1 are slighty superior in that price range

  • @ashneel99 ive seen Quinn comment on a video once saying the AT-ATHM50s were still the best. I am getting a pair soon hopefully[:

  • @adiokidoable like Quinn said "best" is subjective to what your preference in sound is. I prefer the dt 770s to the m50s. Happy listening.

  • @energeez hmm true true. way to bring that up!

  • how did you get the 702's to sound good off the e7? i've heard that these akg's need a lot more power.

  • Should make a 2012 guide by the end of this year. Whole lot of new headphones and brands are going to release.

  • @DrinkBBT to bad he's leaving

  • @DrinkBBT He is leaving in may, and wont be back for 2 years (morman mission)

  • V-Moda M-80 BITCHES!

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy, please review the i-mego retro headphones. I recently bought them for 40 bucks, and on the website they retail for $100. They look super sexy and I think they sound pretty good.

  • The ihome ib40b is a pair of headphones that i use, and you can get them from between 13-25 dollars. For that price they are by far much better sounding, and better looking headphones than the ones he mentioned. I dont know about the build, but they havnt broken so i completely reccomend them

  • I think beats solo look the best.

  • @KaelanFournierTV but sound like shit

  • I bought the ATH M50S, and they are amazing. I love them and I highly reccomend them. They can be easily found under $150.

  • hey, what do you think about the westone 3

  • @TheBboy1994 head-fi org/t/478568/

Can't really talk about the Westone 3, since the W3 is supposed to be the Black sheep of Westone, but the Westone 4 is excellent. Smooth, detailed, easy to listen to, and well-balanced, but not perfectly flat sounding. This doesn't help you much, but keep that in mind if you pick another Westone model.

All westones have good isolation, build quality, comfort and accessory sets.

  • i got the senns hd 202 for a like 50 bucks, well worth it. I also bought the grado sr60s as my first, i guess you could say' "real" headphones, which i love, i think they are good all around even though on rap and hip hop the bass is weak, they still sound nice.

  • you should deffinatly check out the vmoda crossfade lps. got mine for $99. my brother got the beats solos for about $150. the crossfades kill them. they are really amazing headphones for such a low price.

  • I got my V-Moda Crossfade LP's for $100 and i love them! Way better than beats and look sexy as fuck!

  • will u do this next year?

  • I'm completely torn between getting the Shure SRH-440's and the Denon AHD-1100's, which do you think is better in terms of sound quality?

    thanks

  • I own a a pair of AKG K420 and I was absolutely blown away by how good they sound and how nice the bass response is. They are very small, on ear, look very nice and cost like nothing compared to the sound quality. I'd consider them a sleeper hit, they outplay the K430, K450 and maybe even the K480 from what I've heard. Don't let the soft foam ear pads fool you, you don't need leather pads to achieve amazing sound! :) Also AKG K518 ftw if you want a tight bass and sleek design.

  • In ear version please.

  • Hello, I'm looking to buy some new in-ear headphones as my Bose in ear mobiles got stolen.. I was wondering what you would recommend for a guy like me looking for top notch audio out of in-ear headphones. You and I alike are musicians and both appreciate everything going in inside of a song. So I'd greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me on which headphones you'd recommend for the price range up to about 130$ Thanks man! Love your videos!

  • @lerbdude i would recomment the Klipsch Image S4 In-Ear Headphones, or the Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones.

  • This is a very helpful video, good job!

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy

hey quin, i need an In-Ear headphone for my iphone 4 and for about 80 bucks.....

i generally listen to pop , hip-hop and Rnd and things with decent beats...so whats the best option for me?

  • quinn you should probably do the same thing for in ear earbuds

  • hey snazzy can you do a review on the mix master mike headphone i heard chart they sound greats

  • Y Yuh Hating on Skullcandy . but like your videos

  • Hey Quinn, I was wondering which of these headphones have the best noise cancellation? I am looking at the Bose qc15s only because there noise cancelling is so good.

  • Hey Quinn, could you do this same thing, but for in-ear headphones?

  • Sony MDR-XD200 for €15 !! cant beat that snazzy :D

  • @ScOoTeRoOtEr12 None. Pay more or get garbage or just get something that doesn't look flashy and flamboyant.

  • hey snazzy..what would you reccomend for someone who listens to rap mostly and a little bit of rock..the beats pro or the audio technica m50..please reply or somebody reading this that have tried them both

  • my headphones are my ears and i got them for free lol

  • @UKRAINERULES253

    i didnt lol

  • Any chance you've gotten the chance to try the allen & heath xone xd53?

  • It would be really awesome to make an earphones guide, but then again that would be pretty demanding.

so if you can i would love to watch an earphone guide

  • @d7oom977 Awesome, do you find they are heavy on your head though cause I heard they were and i am going to be walking around with them

  • well, I have bose qc3's. honestly they are pretty overpriced, but I was quite happy with the sound quality, and the noise canceling. I can tell your not much of a bose fan, but can you tell me your opinion on the qc3's specifically? nice video btw

  • I have a coupon for beats which means i get a new pair of studio's for $170 and a pair of pro (limited edition detox - retails for $600 ) for $250 which one's should I get or neither?

  • @henrymound detox i have one it's great !!

  • why no sennheisers?

  • I have the Studios and I think they sound and look amazing

  • hope to see the same guide with in ear earphones!!!!

  • The Philips/O'Neil "The Stretch" headphones are the most comfy headphones in the world. They're only 67 dollars on Amazon and i've had them for over a year. They're brilliant.

  • Can you do the ultimate guide to earphones as well?

  • hd 438? whaddaya think about it??

  • I personally think the BeyerDynamics look beautiful. And I've seen musicians like Phoenix and Bon Iver use them in the studio so they must sound pretty snazzy. But oh well..

  • you completely missed all ultrasone headphones, specifically the dj1 pros

  • The best headphones in the 30-50 range in my humble opinion is the JVC HA-RX700. They are fugly, but they are pretty comfy and they sound incredible. Very similar to the D2000 by Denon. With a couple real easy mods they will outshine many headphones which are more expensive (AD700)

Also as someone who picked up the K702, I have to say AKG's phones are not for everyone. The fit issues aside, they are not for all genres of music. They are THE BEST for classical though if they'll fit your noggin.

  • Kiipsh S4i for $99. Totally worth it.

  • I have the Denon ah-d1100, got them for about $150 in Japan. Sounds great, everything is crystal clear. Its also very comfortable but I'm not really a fan of the design. And also the build quality doesnt feel so good but they seem to hold quite well after having them for 2 months and traveling alot with them in my backpack. But the sound!! They make it up for the build quality!

Can you please do a review of my headphones? :)

  • I was surprised when i didn't see sennheiser hd-25|| on 100-200 section :O I've tried that "best sounding" audio technica headphones, but my opinion is that hd-25|| are still the best quality & sounding headphones in that range. Maybe you don't like them because of small earcups? i don't know =D great review btw!

  • @SispeharOfficial I think he disqualified them for being supra-aural. I love the HD-25. They are built to last the apocalypse itself.

  • what about the v moda crossfade LP?

I think they are still one of the best head phones out there

    awesome video nonetheless :)

  • I was surprised to see the Beats on here. I never thought that you of all people would admit that they're awesome looking headphones. There's a certain prestige that goes to people who use them just because of public ignorance, but I still hate them.

And Quinn! What's the deal with your hatred of Grado???

Only one pair and it didn't even get best sound. I've got a pair of SR325is, and they're the best sounding cans I've owned!

  • @ChickenVendetta I think Grado makes some of the best headphones when you start spending more than $600ish. I think that their lower end stuff is out-bested most of the time by Audio-Technica, and Sennheiser though.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy

Some disagreements with you, if you don't mind! :D

    1. What do you judge sound by? Clarity, frequencies? or bass??!! AD700 might lack bass cause its open air.(not sure though never tried them)

    2. Goddamn that sony is MDR XB700 are ugly :(

    3. mmmm, i prefer the shure SRH840 more

    4. WTF the beyer's are FAR better, ( probaly cause its like 50$ more?) than the ATH M50, seriously ,biased much? Cause you seem to have an extreme liking towards the M50

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy Not at all. Grado SR60i's are one of the most legendary headphones ever made. They're $80 in the US and worth every dollar. If you're looking for something with crazy bass then you're obviously not going to go with Grados unless you're into modding. They're meant for genres like rock, classical, and so on.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy You do know that the SR60i is considered almost universally as one of the best open headphones you can get for <$100

  • @ChickenVendetta

I think they are really crappy for the price but they are damn sexy

  • @TheMPSScissors Beats or Grados? I can understand Beats, but Grados are just the opposite.

  • @ChickenVendetta grados for sound but beats for looks

  • @ChickenVendetta

but I agree with snazzy that grados ower end is not as good as sennheiser(my favourite company)

  • @ChickenVendetta I've also got a pair of those, paired with an LD 1+ and a NuForce DAC. This setup is easily the best I've ever heard. Of course, I'd still like to hear all the other headphones out there!

  • @Dibbler67 Nice setup, man!

  • @ChickenVendetta Hey, thanks. Do you have an amp, dac, etc.?

  • @Dibbler67 Yeah, but these are my headphones that I use for portable listening. In the car, bike riding, etc. The best I can do for that is a FiiO E7 amp running through my Zune. (I know. It's a Zune. Ew. But I run lossless audio through it, so don't beat me up too much!)

I need closed back headphones for home use, so I use Audio-Technicas.

  • @ChickenVendetta Yeah, I'd really like a pair of m50s at some point.

  • I recently got a Gaming headset that i thought i could use as a music listening tool aswell. they're great for gamin considering the features they provide, although i really love listening to music with deep thumping bass. I'm looking into the ath m50's.. could they satisfy my needs?

  • I think that even if you hate the beats you have to admit they are the best looking for $100, $200 and $300

  • Own the ATH-M50's. Paid $120 for them on Amazon and yes, I agree with you and I would totally recommend them!

  • you wrote xb700?

  • lol am i the only one that noticed that you said sony xb 500 even though it said xb 700?, but meh, it doesnt rly matter, there isnt much difference between the pair

  • I have the Phillips and Oneil Stretch Headphones, not the best sound, but definitely one of the most comfortable headphones i've ever worn.

  • akg is one of the best for headphones in my opinion, I have the k480 nc's and they sound incredible, even though noise cancelation sucks

  • Comment removed

  • I have AKG K450 and K370, I think they're awesome. Well I like K450 better... You should try it... :)

  • Lol you had to make the "best looks" category just to make the beats fans happy.

  • I know you don't like BOSE but, have you tried the On Ear's? they are actually pretty good

  • You should really review the Senheisser PX 360 BT. They are fucking awesome for $200 to $300. And they are wireless.

  • i brought my first set of headphones ever which were Sennheiser 201s late last year for my Ipod/laptop since i couldnt use stupid apple earphones and it came at a price of $25. i was so happy cause it was my first set ever. now im definetly going to look into this category of headphones , possibly spend from 50 - 200. my brother is considering jumping on the Beats By Dre Band wagon , i need to convince him other wise , i might show him this video

    thanks snazzy :D

  • hey you should do this again, but this time include iems

  • Do you know how the akg k77 and k99 compare to the audio technica ath-m30 overall?

  • do the ath m 50 have reasonable base?

  • @rdreiner5 the ath m50 has a great everything. Incredibly well balanced and seperated. trust me you can't go wrong with them no matter what type of music you listen to

  • what is ur fav.

  • i'm definitely gonna consider the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s

  • I like beats :( but ur right

  • Im getting the AKG K701s!!!

  • Nice review! BTW I'm a headfier too :)

  • What's a good pair of earbuds or headphones for bass?

  • @NinjaDuck1337 The Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Sony MDR XB700, which Snazzy mentioned, have plenty of bass. But the XB700 have a lot more of it. If you want a quick, punchy bass, I heavily recommend the M50.

If you want even more, the XB700 have probably the most (actually good) bass of any headphone I've heard. They do look a little weird though.

  • @CaveManta Thanks, I'll look into those. I agree on the XB700's looking a bit weird, but I'll probably get over it once I try them out.

I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on the Beats headphones, so as an experiment I decided to buy a pair of the Beats Solo HD to see what I think and tell my friends about them as advice when they buy headphones. The bass is pretty good on the Solo HD, but the headphones need to be squeezed onto your head with your hands to really feel it.

  • @NinjaDuck1337 good headphones for a ton of bass are the sony MDR XB series. There's the 300,500,700, and 1000 and the higher the number, the better the bass and sound quality but of course the more expensive

  • How about a video for earphones?

  • @jimmytwotimez well i changed my mind and got some good headphones now

  • I hightly recommend to look at Fischer Audio stuff when you a chance :) They are not easy to find, but are worth it, imo. Particularly this models - Titan, FA-011, FA-002\003. Just as example, fa-011 beats M50 in every aspect in sound, and cost less.

  • @ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy why do you hate skullcandy?

  • @Uplink199 if you're a little kid then skullcandy is perfect for you lol but on a serious note....Skullcandy is too overpriced for the poor quality that it has.....but if you're about looks then go grab some skullcandy

  • how about beyerdynamic and B&W P5???

  • Can i buy your old beats ? ;)

  • Hey Q. Me vota V-Moda!

  • @fiereymatt2 it's bcuz he won't admit that they make great headphones

  • Hey Quinn are you planning on doing a review of the ATH-M50's?

  • @TheJuicybanana The Q701 is almost exactly the same thing as the K702 except the Q701 costs about $75 more. The sound is almost exactly the same, I've listened to both. I can't make any recomendations about the Sony, however the K702 is a very good set of cans.

  • :O why no fanny wangs? o btw anyone here heard the coloud headphones?

  • Of all the headphones in this video, I think the Koss PortaPro are the best. My cousin has Portapros and they sound really really good.

  • you must have had an ex gf that broke your heart that had some beats. dre's are hype as fuck

  • Thank you thank you thank you, thatsnazzyiphoneguy, you are doing GREAT WORK!

  • I hight recommend auditioning Shures new studio headphones (headphones not IEMS) for the prices they retail at they are incredible (really only referring to the 440's and 840's)

At the recommendation of a Shure eng I went with the 440's with the 840s ear cups, wonderfully neutral and amazing build as you would expect

  • why do u hate beats ?

  • i hate bose . Beats are pretty good but theyre over priced . I own beats pro and beats studio solo hd and tour

  • I have to agree on the AKG 702, can't wait to get my re-cabled beyerdynamic tesla T1s in the mail this week.

  • There was no fanny wang heac

  • I've got the Klipsch Image S4's and I think their the best in ear sounding headphones you can get for under $100, just my opinion though.

  • The headband on my Sony MDR V150 just broke after one year of use.

I came straight to this video to see some other options.

  • sennheiser hd 25 ???????? best sound and best build...... just 160 euro

  • m50s are overrated

  • Quinn hates skullcandy :(

  • @Uplink199 Cause they suck?

  • how do all this compare to those headphone which advertise themselves as 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound?

  • i have the beats by dre tours. no way the best but definately worth it when its for free lol

  • beats are the best :)

  • earbud version please? :-)

  • This was awesome quinn but could you make a video just like this one but with in ear headphones?? Please, that would just be totally awesome.

  • Quin! can you make an earphone guide similar to this?

  • I have the Zumreed Border!

  • I dont see Fanny Wangs ! or is it my fault that i skipped many parts just to look at the headphones

  • @eroolshahirul nope. fanny wangs are not on the list. :( i watched the entire thing. i wonder where they would go..

  • @mybrown89 thaanks , kinda puzzled ,quin did the review on it but never show it here . Still , I Love my Wangs ! :D

  • Hey Quin

whats the difference between getting the Audio Technica ATHM50s

and the Audio Technica ATH 700 PROS ?

  • Cant find the Audio technicas in white TT

  • Well i have a pair of dh 1100, waht would you rate them out of 10?

  • I would buy the beats by dre if they were like 50 bucks maybe lol but for now yay for my in ear ZAGG smartbuds!

  • I think you're biased against other headphone companies

  • @lennaaay65 I think you should learn how to use correct punctuation right before you put up a comment.

  • @armandornd This is not an English paper just so you know. Punctuation is not important unless I am writing some huge message.

  • if the beats get a HUGE price drop i will buy but if not i will never spend money on those pieces of shit

  • @DirtyGamingKids831 Your grammar and punctuation is shit. Learn how to use correct grammar and punctuation right before you put up a comment.

  • for the $100 to $200 headphones the shure srh840 beats the ath m50s. i got mine for $130 but they were on sale from $199.99

  • I just bought the AD700's yesterday for $150 AUD. Cant wait to get them in the mail!

  • Beats> all headphones
