I have the Sennheiser HD518's and They are amazing headphones. They don't look amazing , and the build quality isn't stellar, but these are amazing for instrument separation, comfort, and hearing the track how it was intended to be heard. (they don't color the music) for the 100-200 dollar range, these are the best i've tried.
If you are thinking to buy Audio Technica ATH-M50, take a look at Ultrasone HFI-580. Sound is little bit more basier and better IMO. I looked also quite a lot reviews between these two and everyone suggest HFI-580. ATH-M50 may be a little more comfortable, but you can replace HFI-580 pads with DT250 pads. After that they are perfect! Compare these two and choose one that suits you better!
The problem is that the best sounding headphone in your < 20$ category sounds better than the best sounding in 20-50$ category. I think that's something wort mentioning, also the looks is very personal thing.I personaly hated porta pro looks, just to adore it over time.
The problem with this video is that everyone has different sound signature preferences. One might prefer a bass head sound sig ( yes, there are Audiophilic Bass heads. ) with something like the Pro700mk.2 or the HFI-580/780. While another might prefer I brighter sound sig with a subdued low end and wider soundstage with something like the M50 or the Hd25,
A better review would be for each price range, to show the top contenders in each sound preference instead of build quality and looks.
I have 5 pairs of headphones. I have Skullcandy 50/50s, FMJs, Uprock, Hesh, Riot MIC'D, and I have a FiiO E11, and I have to say the FMJs and Hesh are amazing, the 50/50s have good sound quality but horrible build quality, and the Uprock and Riot MIC'D are good for anyone on a budget.
... Hmm.. You say that, but how many other headphones around that price range have you listened to? Saying the Hesh and FMJ are "amazing" when you clearly haven't listened to many other things around that price is ridiculous. In fact, audiophiles actually hate the FMJ and the Hesh and are often used in jokes as the worst sound.
There are plenty of other options out there, that not only sound better, are better built, better looking, ect...
@ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy, please review the i-mego retro headphones. I recently bought them for 40 bucks, and on the website they retail for $100. They look super sexy and I think they sound pretty good.
The ihome ib40b is a pair of headphones that i use, and you can get them from between 13-25 dollars. For that price they are by far much better sounding, and better looking headphones than the ones he mentioned. I dont know about the build, but they havnt broken so i completely reccomend them
Can't really talk about the Westone 3, since the W3 is supposed to be the Black sheep of Westone, but the Westone 4 is excellent. Smooth, detailed, easy to listen to, and well-balanced, but not perfectly flat sounding. This doesn't help you much, but keep that in mind if you pick another Westone model.
All westones have good isolation, build quality, comfort and accessory sets.
i got the senns hd 202 for a like 50 bucks, well worth it. I also bought the grado sr60s as my first, i guess you could say' "real" headphones, which i love, i think they are good all around even though on rap and hip hop the bass is weak, they still sound nice.
you should deffinatly check out the vmoda crossfade lps. got mine for $99. my brother got the beats solos for about $150. the crossfades kill them. they are really amazing headphones for such a low price.
I own a a pair of AKG K420 and I was absolutely blown away by how good they sound and how nice the bass response is. They are very small, on ear, look very nice and cost like nothing compared to the sound quality. I'd consider them a sleeper hit, they outplay the K430, K450 and maybe even the K480 from what I've heard. Don't let the soft foam ear pads fool you, you don't need leather pads to achieve amazing sound! :) Also AKG K518 ftw if you want a tight bass and sleek design.
Hello, I'm looking to buy some new in-ear headphones as my Bose in ear mobiles got stolen.. I was wondering what you would recommend for a guy like me looking for top notch audio out of in-ear headphones. You and I alike are musicians and both appreciate everything going in inside of a song. So I'd greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me on which headphones you'd recommend for the price range up to about 130$ Thanks man! Love your videos!
Hey Quinn, I was wondering which of these headphones have the best noise cancellation? I am looking at the Bose qc15s only because there noise cancelling is so good.
hey snazzy..what would you reccomend for someone who listens to rap mostly and a little bit of rock..the beats pro or the audio technica m50..please reply or somebody reading this that have tried them both
well, I have bose qc3's. honestly they are pretty overpriced, but I was quite happy with the sound quality, and the noise canceling. I can tell your not much of a bose fan, but can you tell me your opinion on the qc3's specifically? nice video btw
I have a coupon for beats which means i get a new pair of studio's for $170 and a pair of pro (limited edition detox - retails for $600 ) for $250 which one's should I get or neither?
The Philips/O'Neil "The Stretch" headphones are the most comfy headphones in the world. They're only 67 dollars on Amazon and i've had them for over a year. They're brilliant.
I personally think the BeyerDynamics look beautiful. And I've seen musicians like Phoenix and Bon Iver use them in the studio so they must sound pretty snazzy. But oh well..
The best headphones in the 30-50 range in my humble opinion is the JVC HA-RX700. They are fugly, but they are pretty comfy and they sound incredible. Very similar to the D2000 by Denon. With a couple real easy mods they will outshine many headphones which are more expensive (AD700)
Also as someone who picked up the K702, I have to say AKG's phones are not for everyone. The fit issues aside, they are not for all genres of music. They are THE BEST for classical though if they'll fit your noggin.
I have the Denon ah-d1100, got them for about $150 in Japan. Sounds great, everything is crystal clear. Its also very comfortable but I'm not really a fan of the design. And also the build quality doesnt feel so good but they seem to hold quite well after having them for 2 months and traveling alot with them in my backpack. But the sound!! They make it up for the build quality!
I was surprised when i didn't see sennheiser hd-25|| on 100-200 section :O I've tried that "best sounding" audio technica headphones, but my opinion is that hd-25|| are still the best quality & sounding headphones in that range. Maybe you don't like them because of small earcups? i don't know =D great review btw!
I was surprised to see the Beats on here. I never thought that you of all people would admit that they're awesome looking headphones. There's a certain prestige that goes to people who use them just because of public ignorance, but I still hate them.
And Quinn! What's the deal with your hatred of Grado???
Only one pair and it didn't even get best sound. I've got a pair of SR325is, and they're the best sounding cans I've owned!
@ChickenVendetta I think Grado makes some of the best headphones when you start spending more than $600ish. I think that their lower end stuff is out-bested most of the time by Audio-Technica, and Sennheiser though.
Some disagreements with you, if you don't mind! :D
1. What do you judge sound by? Clarity, frequencies? or bass??!! AD700 might lack bass cause its open air.(not sure though never tried them)
2. Goddamn that sony is MDR XB700 are ugly :(
3. mmmm, i prefer the shure SRH840 more
4. WTF the beyer's are FAR better, ( probaly cause its like 50$ more?) than the ATH M50, seriously ,biased much? Cause you seem to have an extreme liking towards the M50
@ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy Not at all. Grado SR60i's are one of the most legendary headphones ever made. They're $80 in the US and worth every dollar. If you're looking for something with crazy bass then you're obviously not going to go with Grados unless you're into modding. They're meant for genres like rock, classical, and so on.
@ChickenVendetta I've also got a pair of those, paired with an LD 1+ and a NuForce DAC. This setup is easily the best I've ever heard. Of course, I'd still like to hear all the other headphones out there!
@Dibbler67 Yeah, but these are my headphones that I use for portable listening. In the car, bike riding, etc. The best I can do for that is a FiiO E7 amp running through my Zune. (I know. It's a Zune. Ew. But I run lossless audio through it, so don't beat me up too much!)
I need closed back headphones for home use, so I use Audio-Technicas.
I recently got a Gaming headset that i thought i could use as a music listening tool aswell. they're great for gamin considering the features they provide, although i really love listening to music with deep thumping bass. I'm looking into the ath m50's.. could they satisfy my needs?
lol am i the only one that noticed that you said sony xb 500 even though it said xb 700?, but meh, it doesnt rly matter, there isnt much difference between the pair
i brought my first set of headphones ever which were Sennheiser 201s late last year for my Ipod/laptop since i couldnt use stupid apple earphones and it came at a price of $25. i was so happy cause it was my first set ever. now im definetly going to look into this category of headphones , possibly spend from 50 - 200. my brother is considering jumping on the Beats By Dre Band wagon , i need to convince him other wise , i might show him this video
@rdreiner5 the ath m50 has a great everything. Incredibly well balanced and seperated. trust me you can't go wrong with them no matter what type of music you listen to
@NinjaDuck1337 The Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Sony MDR XB700, which Snazzy mentioned, have plenty of bass. But the XB700 have a lot more of it. If you want a quick, punchy bass, I heavily recommend the M50.
If you want even more, the XB700 have probably the most (actually good) bass of any headphone I've heard. They do look a little weird though.
@CaveManta Thanks, I'll look into those. I agree on the XB700's looking a bit weird, but I'll probably get over it once I try them out.
I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on the Beats headphones, so as an experiment I decided to buy a pair of the Beats Solo HD to see what I think and tell my friends about them as advice when they buy headphones. The bass is pretty good on the Solo HD, but the headphones need to be squeezed onto your head with your hands to really feel it.
@NinjaDuck1337 good headphones for a ton of bass are the sony MDR XB series. There's the 300,500,700, and 1000 and the higher the number, the better the bass and sound quality but of course the more expensive
I hightly recommend to look at Fischer Audio stuff when you a chance :) They are not easy to find, but are worth it, imo. Particularly this models - Titan, FA-011, FA-002\003. Just as example, fa-011 beats M50 in every aspect in sound, and cost less.
@Uplink199 if you're a little kid then skullcandy is perfect for you lol but on a serious note....Skullcandy is too overpriced for the poor quality that it has.....but if you're about looks then go grab some skullcandy
@TheJuicybanana The Q701 is almost exactly the same thing as the K702 except the Q701 costs about $75 more. The sound is almost exactly the same, I've listened to both. I can't make any recomendations about the Sony, however the K702 is a very good set of cans.
I hight recommend auditioning Shures new studio headphones (headphones not IEMS) for the prices they retail at they are incredible (really only referring to the 440's and 840's)
At the recommendation of a Shure eng I went with the 440's with the 840s ear cups, wonderfully neutral and amazing build as you would expect

ChickenVendetta 6 months ago
@ChickenVendetta Yeah, I'd really like a pair of m50s at some point.
Dibbler67 6 months ago
I recently got a Gaming headset that i thought i could use as a music listening tool aswell. they're great for gamin considering the features they provide, although i really love listening to music with deep thumping bass. I'm looking into the ath m50's.. could they satisfy my needs?
WeeteepZ 7 months ago
I think that even if you hate the beats you have to admit they are the best looking for $100, $200 and $300
salcedo119 7 months ago
Own the ATH-M50's. Paid $120 for them on Amazon and yes, I agree with you and I would totally recommend them!
y3nd0 7 months ago

I have the Phillips and Oneil Stretch Headphones, not the best sound, but definitely one of the most comfortable headphones i've ever worn.

akg is one of the best for headphones in my opinion, I have the k480 nc's and they sound incredible, even though noise cancelation sucks

I have AKG K450 and K370, I think they're awesome. Well I like K450 better... You should try it... :)
alaricnestor 7 months ago
Lol you had to make the "best looks" category just to make the beats fans happy.
uberman360 7 months ago
I know you don't like BOSE but, have you tried the On Ear's? they are actually pretty good
hbiggs96 7 months ago
You should really review the Senheisser PX 360 BT. They are fucking awesome for $200 to $300. And they are wireless.
eljaytomas123 7 months ago
i brought my first set of headphones ever which were Sennheiser 201s late last year for my Ipod/laptop since i couldnt use stupid apple earphones and it came at a price of $25. i was so happy cause it was my first set ever. now im definetly going to look into this category of headphones , possibly spend from 50 - 200. my brother is considering jumping on the Beats By Dre Band wagon , i need to convince him other wise , i might show him this video
thanks snazzy :D

rdreiner5 8 months ago
@rdreiner5 the ath m50 has a great everything. Incredibly well balanced and seperated. trust me you can't go wrong with them no matter what type of music you listen to

What's a good pair of earbuds or headphones for bass?
NinjaDuck1337 9 months ago
@NinjaDuck1337 The Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Sony MDR XB700, which Snazzy mentioned, have plenty of bass. But the XB700 have a lot more of it. If you want a quick, punchy bass, I heavily recommend the M50.
If you want even more, the XB700 have probably the most (actually good) bass of any headphone I've heard. They do look a little weird though.
CaveManta 8 months ago
@CaveManta Thanks, I'll look into those. I agree on the XB700's looking a bit weird, but I'll probably get over it once I try them out.
I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on the Beats headphones, so as an experiment I decided to buy a pair of the Beats Solo HD to see what I think and tell my friends about them as advice when they buy headphones. The bass is pretty good on the Solo HD, but the headphones need to be squeezed onto your head with your hands to really feel it.
NinjaDuck1337 8 months ago
@NinjaDuck1337 good headphones for a ton of bass are the sony MDR XB series. There's the 300,500,700, and 1000 and the higher the number, the better the bass and sound quality but of course the more expensive
homeskilletbiscuit49 7 months ago
How about a video for earphones?

@jimmytwotimez well i changed my mind and got some good headphones now
Uplink199 9 months ago
I hightly recommend to look at Fischer Audio stuff when you a chance :) They are not easy to find, but are worth it, imo. Particularly this models - Titan, FA-011, FA-002\003. Just as example, fa-011 beats M50 in every aspect in sound, and cost less.

@ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy why do you hate skullcandy?
Uplink199 9 months ago
@Uplink199 if you're a little kid then skullcandy is perfect for you lol but on a serious note....Skullcandy is too overpriced for the poor quality that it has.....but if you're about looks then go grab some skullcandy

Hey Quinn are you planning on doing a review of the ATH-M50's?
deaaanc 9 months ago
@TheJuicybanana The Q701 is almost exactly the same thing as the K702 except the Q701 costs about $75 more. The sound is almost exactly the same, I've listened to both. I can't make any recomendations about the Sony, however the K702 is a very good set of cans.

I hight recommend auditioning Shures new studio headphones (headphones not IEMS) for the prices they retail at they are incredible (really only referring to the 440's and 840's)
At the recommendation of a Shure eng I went with the 440's with the 840s ear cups, wonderfully neutral and amazing build as you would expect
