  • Wath daa... I'm so fuck...g admired with this and with the results of the operation... =) Greetings

  • =] ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!

  • I wonder if this surgery is offered in Canada. I haven't done any research in years on this. I too have albinism and Nystagmus.

  • he is so adorable!

    i love this kid! =)

  • aaww hes so cute god bless him is he alright now i cant beleive he said Schools boaring its fun

  • We were just told our 5 year old will have surgery for this. I am nervous.

  • I would think the substantia nigra in the brain located behind the eyes would come into play with this. It's depletion in melanin is what causes Parkinson's. Being that the pupil is letting in light without any melanin buffers in the body and eye of a person with Albinism, I'd think that could be part of what causes the tremor there in the eyes. I've heard of eye drops that increase melanin. I wonder if that could help.

  • I am 14 and have albinism + the nystagnus, did this surgery help his vision, for some reason my eye doctor has never mentioned this surgery... what are the risks?

  • I have it too so does my sister and my mam and my nephew, my nephe gets picked on like I did so I hope this little chap doesn't, he's cute.

we have that crane thing at work it does my head in.

  • I have albinism, and I was always told that nystagmus cannot be corrected via surgery because of the potential damage to the eyes.

    This is quite interesting...

    Regards,

    Am

  • The surgery does not stop the nystagmus entirely but for many (including Hank) it reduces the amount of movement and slows that movement down as well. We haven't gotten back to Pittsburgh for an official follow up measurement but to me, it's clear he can see better especially when trying to read, color etc.

  • Also meant to say as with any surgery, there are risks to consider. Any surgery can have a bad outcome. We weighed the info we had and the dr we used has a stellar reputation (Dr Hertle Pittsburgh Childrens Hosp) It was tough because this was an elective surgery, ie not something his health depended on. On the other side of it now, I am very happy with the improvement Hank has had and feel we made the right choice.

  • Is Nystagmus cured through surgery?
