  • what's that guy doing!! those sharks are man eating machines!

  • @jeslyfirefox

Devils teeth refers to the island heads jutting out of the water. Dangerous for capatains to maneouver boats around, it had nothing to do w/ the sharks at the time.

  • stunning

  • Great editiing, sound, colors, everything.

  • I also first heard of Ron Elliot from Susan Casey's book, 'The Devils Teeth'. If i ever get to the USA, i will get them both, and Peter Pyle if i can to autograph it. And i would take my hat off to this man any day. Respect!

  • the guy is a zen diver! absolute respect!

  • That was amazing! You have to have a serious amount of guts to do that but. Well shot and I really like the editing. Oh yeah and the black and white above water against the color under water was a nice touch. Point made.

  • diving in sept - nov off the farallon islands makes this guy my hero.. just to have the balls to dive without a cage during months were the chances to come face to face with these amazing creatures is basically 100 percent.. i'm fully aware whites just dont "attack" humans, but to go in those waters during those months takes 800 pound balls....

  • is this the farallon islands

  • @collif12345, yes it is the farallon. they called it the red triangle..in the old days they called it the devil's teeth coz it was infested by huge Great White Shark.. feeding on seals and sea lion..susan casey credited it from the book she made. The Devil's Teeth.. its nice book to read.

  • @jeslyfirefox i just put that book on hold today. buying it friday!!!! :) I love sharks (^^^)

  • I work urchin down south. Can't imagine working up in the Farallons - you are one brave dude.

  • good on you, live life to the full.x

  • Very nice. Good documentary. Great dive experience.

  • Woah. Great Atmosphere.

  • Beautiful.

  • Magic on film. A true story, well told about an amazing character.

  • WOW ur SO COOL!!!!!! u discovered something that people have been doing since 2001 ! u jackass get a life

  • bastard

  • Nice work!

  • I totally agree with you Savedashark. Sharks are amazing - the greatest thing that I have ever seen is in Fiji when I dived to 30m, looked up and saw about 50 hammerheads circling above me.

  • Great Doc. liked how underwater shots were in color. Thought I was the only freak that often dreamed of sharks. I spend a lot of time in So Cal waters bodysurfing. I am often around dolphins & seals. Swam with sharks on North Shore Oahu this summer. Best experience of my life. Sharks are sleek, beautiful creatures. Not the killing machines the movies make them out to be. My motto: Protect the Ocean.

  • Fantastic!....Quite a guy!

  • Film is magic....very sweet camerawork! Nice documentary!

  • Wow this guy is awesome! Makes me want ot dive the Farallon's

  • guys, what did he catch?

BTW, that was one HUGE shark indeed.

  • read the bookss guys by susan casey entitled the Devil's teeth.. that man in the video ron elliot is there. in the picture. and those people who manning the farallon island. like scott anderson and mr piel.. thnx

  • i watch it, where i live i dont have sharks nywhere near me, bu the dowe is that the sea i cols an green :(

  • Girls and boys relax. If you are scared of sharks don't go in the water, if you want to swim then spend the 600 bucks and strap the electronic gizmo on your ankle and all is good! Sharks are not 'killing machines' they are not machines at all. Instead of arguing just watch the vid and listen to what Ron is saying...

  • Peter's work on the Farallons fascinated me and the glimpse of this story I got in the book made me want to know so much more. Thank you for your story, Ron, and the glimpse of the splendor of your view of this mysterious place.

  • i like animals just as much as the next guy if he likes animals but y call ur self a human i mean say something else u make it sound like ur a part of a master raice and not a person i like sharks but wtf and trevski go fuck ur cat grandfather because ur mother was a hamster and ur father smelt of eldaberies

  • thekrakkingz, your dad once sucked a paki off for a can of FANTA!!!! Dirty-man... your a bellend!

  • futureshorts is great because of the crazy variety of stuff they do, and the consistent quality of it.

  • ur all fucking hippis if u like animals so mutch and hate humans just kill you selfs

  • Well man, Im probably what you would call a 'Hippi',

You sound pretty against people supporting the Sharks. Why is that?

I'm not going to kill myself, I doubt any other 'Hippis' would either, there would be no point. Do you know why?

  • u live a cool life roger

  • 22eduardo u hippi noob

  • I liked the bit where the shark bit his head off at the end.

  • u lied to me T.T i was all excited lmao

  • If you take a animal off the earth it will have a counter effect such as too many seals so its better to leave as it is.

  • so do humans

  • humans are bigger problems

you think we hav more of a right to live than sharks?

are sharks killing the ozone layer and chopping down trees and making hundreds of other species extinct, i think not

  • yeah i know but sharks are absolutely terrifying XD

  • sumrandom the fact that your on the computer shows that you have no respect for the environment just like the rest of us so fuck you

  • i never said i cared for the environment at any point

  • sharks were here before we were so we have no right to kill them.

  • OMG I WUD NEVER SWIM WIT SHARKS!!!!! :p

  • why doesn't it play to me?

  • sharks have been on this earth longer than we have, they have adapted and become the ultimate predator/ killing machine, they are able to find prey in the darkest of waters from miles away from just one frop of blood, and they can detect electrical impulses produced from other animals...humans may be the dominant species, but sometimes we need to respect other species as they have as much right to be here on this earth as we do.

  • tht was pretty cool

  • I dont understand this, half of the comments here are insulting there own species? can a shark invite electricirty? No. can an eagle create a hybrid car?

No. Humans are more advanced than anything on this planet, just because there are humans who are serial killers and rapists, dosent mean a fucking shark should be able to live.

  • You don't think a Shark should be able to live?

Why would an eagle create a hybrid car when it can get around faster than a human? If a Shark invented electricity in its habitat, surely the sea creatures would be electrocuted.

I get what your trying to say, but If Sharks are so useless, then so are we.

If there is an end to the world, in which no humans remain, what will have been the point of us living? Let alone any other animal.

Maybe Im wrong, but sounds like your bigging up humans to much.

  • We humans who do we think we are? we just kill, polute and think of ourselves BIG!!

  • We also advance the world in science and culture, give that to any other species and what will happen?

    Nothing.

  • You personally haven't advanced the world with science or culture, so less of this 'we' talk. You're no smarter than a shark. You're actually arguing that humans (and I hope your not including yourself here) are more intelligent than animals. Well derrr!! To most people thats a given, but to you it's a revelation.

I admit I must be dumber than you just for responding to your inane and misspelt drivel.

  • Not wanting to sound dumb or anything but, are these Sea Urchins harvested for food? Are they a delicacy ? I just cant remember ever seeing Sea Urchin on a menu, and I have been to some Countries where the food is somewhat 'weird' to read. what do they taste like? Please, don't say like a Sea Urchin! haha thanks eh..

  • They are eaten in Japan. But then so is anything that moves so that doesn't mean they're nice. It's called Uni on the menus. I imagine it would taste salty and slimey if uncooked. I would only eat it cooked if at all.

  • Hi, londonoverground, thanks for the info, appreciated eh. Me too regarding the eating of them! - it would have to be in the context of 'life or death' and even then I would be thinking long and hard!.haha Yes, Japan, and indeed other Countries down that area (ish), of the Globe do eat some funky stuff, and that's a fact!! Cheers!

  • How did cars get in this matter! Haaah

nonsence getting from here to there all over!

  • people trying to get the point that goes nowhere ... modernised ecosystem has started. Before no cars or any artificial things so it wasnt included BUT now there are so just think of it that Nowadays cars are also a part of ecosystem because they too take part, vastly.

  • Uhm, have you ever thought of how humans kill animals? I think it's a bit hypocritical to say we should wipe out a species because once every couple years a shark may attack a person, while us humans hunt just for fun when they do it to survive.

I really don't want to start any shit, it's just what I think.

  • @lexilog i know what you are talking about but the bible said we have dominion over them....

  • @segkik Don't make this religious. That's stupid to do on the internet.

  • @lexilog

    legend

  • this is a crazy thing, but someweare ive heard that donkeys kill more peoples than sharks

  • i almost fell asleep

  • great whites r cool, im reading a book about this place right now and this guy is in it. theses islands r near california, this is one of the best places in the world to see great whites

  • fuck sharks...more people would swim and surf and have arms and legs if they werent there

  • I think they deserve the Earth more than us. They're so perfectly designed that they've remained virtually unchanged for years and they have little ecological impact. Humans are terrible.

    F*ck surfing it's a waste of time.

  • Sharks have as much right to be here as we do, that is their territory, if humans were meant to be at sea, we'd look alot different than what we do now. Sharks do frighten me, but I believe they deserve to live on this planet.

  • So, all animals have a place in the eco system.

  • the ecosystem would adapt...and in my opinion if they kill people they dont

  • Wrong, all eco systems need predators that control fish populations. And we're not the ones to do it by charter fishing and other un ecologically friendly methods. Not to mention you get into ocean water you're on sharks terms. Bears attack people should they still be killed off? No

we should'nt interfere with nature by killing off certain species of animals. More dogs are responsible for peoples deaths then sharks, should we kill them off?

  • Yes. Run the bears in the mountains and kill off pitbulls. Sharks? Idk, I'm not an ocean freak so I couldn't say.

  • I agree with running the bears into the mountains, but they should'nt be made extinct, we should find a way to keep them from wondering into peoples front yards like they do in Nor-Cal, Canada, and Alaska. As far as dogs go I kinda agree with the pit bull thing, but my point was is dogs kill more people then sharks every year yet no one wants to make them extinkt. Vidabonds what makes you think the Eco system will work itself out? It's not managing to well right now.

  • Before we kill of sharks, bears and certain breeds of dogs, maybe we should get rid of the biggest killer of humans: cars. Fuckers are DAAAANGEROUS.

  • Cars? no you can only drive a car if you pass your licence test and what about bears? they just go and hunt for good animals and maybe humans same for the sharks... etc

  • um we do kill dogs that attack humans..and yes i think bears should go away too...and i think us fishing does a good enough job controling the fish population...and then so what thered be more harmless fish than normal...no indians would shed a tear if u know what i mean

  • Dude, you're a fool, being attacked by a Shark is as rare being struck by lightning. We kill way more sharks then people they could ever kill. You're way of thinking is fucked up more harless fish than normal? There are other large fish in the ocean that can and have attacked people. If everyone had your redneck logic, no one could enjoy the beauty of this world.

  • thast true that it is rare but its also true that the world would be better off with out them because less people would loose their limbs surfing and such

  • I disagree. they greatly benefit the food chain and while they are scary, without them there would be a lot more hazards in the ocean than u even know.

  • ur probablly right

  • Jeezz u and RHart are really going at this shit. Just live in peace people! Vidabonds thinks one way and u think another..chill! Its not just cause Vidabonds thinks that sharks should be killed of that hes going to go do the job himself...dont worry.

  • Just count how many limbs do people lose every year thanks to road acidents, job mishaps, various illnesses and compare that number to the number of limbs that peaceful sea life has claimed.

Bears and wolves also attack people - maybe we should exterminate everything that bites? I suggest exterminating the humants first, they bite, too.

  • What happens when the sharks all die? Hmm. Let's think. 1) The fish population skyrockets. 2) There's too many fish and not enough food to feed them all. 3) The fish die out. 4) Several third world countries with fish as the staple of their diet will STARVE TO DEATH. 5) Earth loses human resources and the population is forced to rely on other sources of meat for protein. 6) We exhaust those sources. 7) Humans no longer have meat and therefore not enough protein.

    Oh, yes, kill the sharks!!!

  • yo i was mostly kidding when i made that comment...of corse i know that they r vital to the ecosystem ...i passed high school science

  • its not just fish the sharks eat, they have other duties 2

  • Then the fish die out, and the remanining countries send financial aid, and the human species continues as it always will. You think people would just sit there and watch there species die out? and you cannot just put. We exhaust those sources, as we clearly wouldnt, even if a huge famin hits every single natural food resource in the world, humans could survive off artificialy created food for the rest of there lives, granted it wouldnt be as healthy.

  • Are we Chines or wat?

  • ur a retard idiots like u are the fucking reason theyre goin extinct they are beautiful animals which have every right to live. they keep control of the ocean's ecosystem and without them the world would collapse so fuck u asshole

  • World already is fucked. Look around....

  • you suck

  • PEACE AND LOVE PEOPLE!

  • that seams fun going diving but ever day the same place with no one to come with you and talk to just think about it.

    but it does seam cool

  • it must be the coolest experience to be swimming tht far under water with all of tht nature around yu

  • Good vid. I dive with big sharks. They dont like the bubbles from regulators, and they dont like being stared at. I personally wouldnt wear a black suit, break up the colors. But ron is right they sneak up on your side flanks. Sneaky bastards. Unlesss your diving or surfing in known shark waters, being afraid of them is dumb. Not in a few feet of water. Talking about whites only. Just get a shark shield. Gives you more protection. Smart for Ron to diver there, no competiton.

  • Dude, you got more balls than me I tell ya'. I barely even step into the ocean whenever I go.

  • AH! sharks are my biggest fear! i once saw jaws, and it took me a year to go in the ocean again! and i always had nightmares that i was on a boat and the shark got me! :O

  • Youre such a wuss when I read books about shark in the summer or watch movies it makes me want to go in more! And when I saw Jaws it was cool my parents got scared of it that was only my mom though. But!Youre still a wuss

  • wow, that means so much coming from you! ... no, not really. Idc if you think im a wuss, you can go screw yourself.

  • you can go screw ur mama

  • wow, lame comment. What are you, 10? 11?

  • 10 bitch how old are you five like ur iq

  • wow, not wasting my time with a dumb little kid. and BTW in 15, im actually old enough to be on youtube! (unlike you)

  • 10 years old, i beat up little fuckers like you.

just be glad that i dont know where you live.

    you shit-sucking cockbite!

    XD

  • 好囧好囧

  • beautiful

  • Awesome Video

  • Yea....think I'd be finding a new way to make a living

  • Boring

  • who knows what they use to edit?

  • I've always wanted to dive out in the open with Great Whites but of course that doesn't go well with the parents.

  • haunting, facinating...5 stars

  • very cool video i liked it.

  • Very Nice Vid was awsome.

  • Nice to see real 16mm film origination in the modern world. The b&w shipboard shots remind me of old "Sea Hunter" episodes. Underwater color shots are video, it appears. I like the minimalist guitar music and the attenuated snatches of narration.

  • Awesome on many levels. Great short film.

  • Wizard production! I really enjoyed the camera effects.

    from Kentucky...

  • great movie real interesting

  • I read and loved the book " Devil's Teeth " about the Farallon Great Whites. I learned so much about the whites and this unique and fascinating place, the Farallons.Thank you for this amazing video :)

  • this is an excellent video

anyone who says otherwise is a fool .

  • nice video if you have been diving sinse 1978 and this video was posted in 04 so im guessing that this footage was then or sooner thats almost 30 years. with fuel for boat and generator i would imagine there must be a lil bit of money in urchin to pay for all that. the irionic thing about this video he has hep c which is probably the reason he is not afraid of the sharks hes just a dead man walking anyhow getting ate by a shark would be no more or less painful to him. humm interesting some nice

  • This kind of film makes me want to cry. Especially the last little bit of what he said.

"You're just part of the background. They're passing by you but that's not why they came by. It's like I wasn't even there.."

  • Nice video,i wish i could go diving.

  • This man is amazing, love his passion for what hes doing.

  • not boring for me, interesting and beautiful.

  • I like it, very nice!

  • cool thanks

  • What's the thing he have around his hand?

  • the thing he has in his hand is actually a tool. a urchin pick * its purpose its tapered design is to pick the urchin off the sea floor or rocks without stabbing ones self.

  • It's scary and beautiful at the same time.

  • Wonder who he sells the urchins to? I know they are sold at pet shops that sell creatures for salt water tanks.

  • they're edible too

  • awesome
