There´s a really good book about this case. It´s called BTK, THE SERIAL KILLER NEXT DOOR and relates the incidents that occurred between his first murders up to the time of his arrest in 2005. It´s a really good book, I highly recommend it...and by the way it gives you a really portrait of how cold blooded a criminal this guy was. He just didn´t feel anything!!!
At a time in Russia, they would have a formal trial and if you got the death sentence you would be executed the same day. I'm neither for nor against the death penalty. It's hypocritical and vengeful to "execute" someone who commits any crime, but there are legalities and honest human nature and need. If they are going to execute a prisoner then don't make tax payers fend for them for decades. Just carry out the sentence.

There are many cases where the wrong person was executed or let off in the last minute. Any other system would not be justice but rather old fashioned barbarism. @JRHulbret That is so risky though. Many death row inmates have been exonerated by new evidence decades later. An immediate execution is unfair if there were any mistakes in the trial and assumes that the killer is guilty. Maybe that would work if the Killer plead guilty but if there is any doubt about innocence there is a risk of an innocent man being killed.
@JRHulbret it costs MUCH more to execute someone in the US ( because of the appeals they are allowed to make) than it does to keep someone in prison for life.

There´s a really good book about this case. It´s called BTK, THE SERIAL KILLER NEXT DOOR and relates the incidents that occurred between his first murders up to the time of his arrest in 2005. It´s a really good book, I highly recommend it...and by the way it gives you a really portrait of how cold blooded a criminal this guy was. He just didn´t feel anything!!!

At a time in Russia, they would have a formal trial and if you got the death sentence you would be executed the same day. I'm neither for nor against the death penalty. It's hypocritical and vengeful to "execute" someone who commits any crime, but there are legalities and honest human nature and need. If they are going to execute a prisoner then don't make tax payers fend for them for decades. Just carry out the sentence.

@JRHulbret Time and appeals are needed so that we can be 100% sure. Could you imagine if you were railroaded through on weak evidence. There are many cases where the wrong person was executed or let off in the last minute. Any other system would not be justice but rather old fashioned barbarism. This is one reason to get rid of the death penalty itself because it smacks of revenge rather than justice and takes us back to the dark ages.

@JRHulbret That is so risky though. Many death row inmates have been exonerated by new evidence decades later. An immediate execution is unfair if there were any mistakes in the trial and assumes that the killer is guilty. Maybe that would work if the Killer plead guilty but if there is any doubt about innocence there is a risk of an innocent man being killed.
