@ocdfamily if your cadet corps was anything like mine and others i know you're pretty much going to just be standing on a parade ground all night being yelled at for something you didn't do. it is sad cadets is not like it was 50 years ago where it was all about learning about naval engineering, traveling and learning different types of math,science and military history.
@ultradumbass actually, my division is regarded as one of the best in the US, we have GREAT summer programs about naval engineering, special warfare, explosive ordinance and may more. sure you get yelled at by petty officers, but it's not that bad.

@ocdfamily most of our officers were 2nd class. some i doubt graduated from high school because the way they acted i don't even think they knew what a ship was. most of the chiefs and petty officers were snobs anyway who thought they were better than everyone else. i became a petty officer and decided to be less self centred. in fact i told regular cadets to just call me by my first name rather than rank. shortly i got so fed up i stopped washing my uniform so i always looked sloppy.
@ocdfamily i'm in canada however i know people all around the world with stories just as bad or worse than mine. i know of a guy who lived in alabama as a kid and his corps literally had only 8 sea cadets, and they had 1 officer and the officer never did much other than make them do pretty much the same thing we did except when it is 1 officer you rely on him to be responsible. well he said half the time the officer was late and every once in a while he wouldn't show up at all.
@ultradumbass man, thats a HUGE disgrace to the sea cadets. My division has one commanding officer, about 5 other officers, and 5 chief petty officers. We take everything very seriously.
@ocdfamily my sea cadet corps was massive, we had 1 CO, 1 XO, about 20 officers, about 10 regular army recruits and about 200 regular cadets. if you were a family member of an officer or best friends with an officer's kid it was paradise. you were invited to free parties (which came from our fundraisng) and the parties were only for the kids of officers and their friends, they went sailing, scuba diving, traveling, target shooting while the "nobodies" cleaned up after them.
@ocdfamily they need to make an organisation that is a bit like scouts and cadets at the same time. in canada a good uniform would be dressing kids up like the rcmp with big red uniforms and cowboy style hats and make them learn everything from crp, science, math, military history, economics, engineering, medicine, foreign languages, geography etc. all these subjects are important for the military, this could be almost like a military school for juniors.
@ocdfamily if they taught all the subjects i suggested this would be like a new school curriculum. the government should have the religious school boards and public school boards as options but they should open a third school board for high school students who wish to pursue in a career that is military related. they would learn all the subjects i listed below plus learn military commands and drill and go camping and learn about nature. in the end they'd be smarter than public kids.

@ocdfamily i heard that since the time i left the officers got replaced because it got too corrupt, the cadets there now are saying they get more activities such as swimming classes etc. but i still haven't forgiven the corp. in fact i still got my uniform in my house. i'll give it back when i want to. they owe me many certificates such as my sailing and promotions they never gave to me so i am in no hurry to go out of my way to satisfy them.

@ocdfamily I'm curious. What would a 43 yr old yank know about the British SCC. The USNSCC may be funded by your DOD but our SCC is a charity organisation (and , incidentaly, the oldest youth organisation in the world) and not funded in any way by the RN.

@u452u sorry mate In the UK the cadet forces cant do either, nothing becuase its "too military" but mostly because there is no accreditation for it so if something goes wrong they get sued.
Sorry mate to correct you, but I my self have been on a live firing range shooting the old mark 1 SA80 rifle, the one that jammed alot. I have also been clay pigeon shooting, Airsoft and paintballing, so yes we do get to do them ;p
@CroizerHD I dont doubt the Shooting/Blank Fire Exercises as Ive done both and know they are one of the main attractions for the 4 services, however Airsoft and paintball are not in the Cadet Safety Training Precautions (JSP 535) which is a Cross-corps document which lists the activities the cadet forces can take part in. you can do it outside the corps with your oppo's, who just "happen" to be in the corps as well, just remember to not confuse either with actual Exercise training ^.^
@Cadet2CadetTraining I never said anything about shooting ^.^ as said above I've done it in the SCC both on range and in field ex, However Airsoft aint allowed as a cadet activity, at the moment its unregulated and enforces bad mistakes with NSP's and Formation drills.

And yes, 9/11 was a terrible and horrific, but we had 7/7 bombings as well, yet you mf don't even mention that. And atm in Afghan, percentage deaths are UK are 3.7% of personel, whilst America is 1.6%.

@CroizerHD I dont doubt the Shooting/Blank Fire Exercises as Ive done both and know they are one of the main attractions for the 4 services, however Airsoft and paintball are not in the Cadet Safety Training Precautions (JSP 535) which is a Cross-corps document which lists the activities the cadet forces can take part in. you can do it outside the corps with your oppo's, who just "happen" to be in the corps as well, just remember to not confuse either with actual Exercise training ^.^

And yes, 9/11 was a terrible and horrific, but we had 7/7 bombings as well, yet you mf don't even mention that. And atm in Afghan, percentage deaths are UK are 3.7% of personel, whilst America is 1.6%.
