By the TNG scale (which is different from the Warp Scale of TOS after around Warp 9.2+, I am pretty sure this was the first time warp 10 was reached using a standard Federation warp drive. Transwarp doesn't count because it utilizes conduits where light travels much faster than it does in subspace. As for us eventually evolving into large salamanders...well that seemed like a step backwards to me LOL. The episode was horrible and you are correct that it should not be canon.

Hmm I'll have to check that out. I don't believe that anyone can decanonize something except Paramount. If they did, it'll be the first time that they have decanonized a filmed episode. I agree that it needs to be though. The warp scale may have been changed but they have shown ships of the future travelling at warp 14 so that's hard to explain away unless they reverted to the TOS scale in the future.

I had a peek at the interview Braga did concerning the episode. It hasn't been officially decanonized but he and a few others at Paramount aren't happy with it. It wasn't the Warp 10 issue that presented the problem. It was the whole de-evolving into salamanders that pissed people off. I wish it had been removed totally from canon but, alas, it remains there as a shining beacon of the inconsistencies of the Trek universe. It's just one more oddity for the canon freaks to have to explain away.

You're missing the BIG reason it needs to be decanonized:

Because, if it's canon, then (A) the series should've ended right there, or (B) everyone on the Voyager, including the super-logical Tuvok, was a BLITHERING IDIOT!!

Why? Because Warp 10 is ­velocity of ∞. It means you travel through Points A and B, and all colinear points between, SIMULTANEOUSLY.

That means they could GO HOME!

But they didn't DARE, because they'd start mutating into giant salamanders, right? RIGHT!?

(A) the process of transforming into a salamander takes about a week, and isn't even noticeable for a day or two, and

(B) it can be COMPLETELY CURED at ANY TIME, even AFTER THE TRANSFORMATION IS COMPLETE, by the simple generic Trek cure-all of beaming the victim with the Transporter set to "Restore Previous Molecular Backup."

So, they do an intraship transport of all crew members, storing a backup of each. Warp 10 to a starbase, then beam everyone aboard it in "Restore" mode!
