simply perfect !, i watched this movie when i was about 10 years old and the image of the monkey dying after exposure to andromeda gave me nightmares for ages , as classic as any hitchcock. many thanks
Love it at 5.55 when he drops the key and you're left trying to remember if he's just holding the chain or has it round his wrist. Nice bit of suspense, that.
I love this movie. Big fan of Michael Crichton. I heard a lecture by Dr. Crichton at the L.A. Book Fair some years ago.
But of course, the movie version has some plot holes in it. For instance, that phase of mutation Andromeda went through that eats the flesh off Air Force pilot's bones at 20,000 feet: it's kind of a good thing that didn't show up at Wildfire, eh?
"2001, A Space Odyssey" is great though rather obscure but this is far more gripping, and, furthermore, any one with average intelligence and a minimal knowledge of science can understand it well,
I eat Andromeda Strain for breakfast , spread it on my toast like marmalade......It doesn,t dare hurt me because i,m Welsh........The novel by the late Michael Crichton, like the movie is highly entertaining and compelling.......Crichton was a story-telling genius and sadly missed.
I seen the new version & found it far too Big Brother & anti-government preachy for my tastes, as I want to be entertained when I watch movies, not preached too.
Yes... But, the last part (Right before 601) it shows Andromeda growing in the water... Also, if this was real, it IS dead now cause' of all the sh*t we put in our oceans!
I think it was the alkali in the sea-water that did the trick (pH 8, nearly the same as baking soda), though acidity would have worked too as the A,S. could only survive in a very limited range of pH.
8:43 THEY FORGOT 1 CRUCIAL DETAIL HOW QUICKLY IT DIVIDES AND MUTATES

Stone should have sent some people up the shaft with Hall. They could have distracted the lasers.

yeah, i dont like this whole trend of remaking classics, the day the earth stood still is a prime example

i dont get it how did they destroy it
crazialbanian25 3 years ago
They didn't destroy it. It mutated into a non-infecious form.

That's not quite true. They caused a storm by seeding clouds. That carried Andromeda to the ocean, where the acidity was such that it died.
