the amount of torque Tim creates is not matched by anyone else in the bigs. The reason why his arm has held up from throwing 95 mph at 5'11 for this long is because he uses the power of rotation and the power from triple extension. If you look at guys like Koufax, Strasburg and Prior, they dont create the snap of the hips that Tim gets at foot plant, instead, they are throwing mainly with their arms, something Tim IS NOT doing. Id be shocked to see his arm get hurt in the next 10 years.
I understand why many people say that his mechanics are not good and could shorten his career. The one reason that his career may be a long one is that he has mechanics that he has used most if not all his life. The fact that his dad stood firm that pitching coaches were not allowed to change his mechanics was a good thing. I would not recommend anyone changing their mechanics to resemble Tim's because a change without years of conditioning will cause an injury.
The historical reference to Lincecum's motion lies in his Foot Plant. Just like Beckett, Halladay and all the elite Pitchers, he instantly transfers all his Lower Body energy into his Throwing Hand to produce a consistently tiny release window. The style used to get to their Foot Plant is totally unique to each Pitcher.
Pitchers need to use their Pitching Chain to eliminate the barriers holding them back from an elite Foot Plant.
@pitchingsolutions I hear people talk about his footplant all the time, and i don't understand it, isn't your footplant influenced by your leg lift ??
@SharkAttackProd Let me redefine Foot Plant as the sequence of events that happens as the Pitcher's Front Foot makes contact with the ground. Elite Top Flight MLB command comes from the energy stored in the Back Leg being released by the Hips, instantly moving up a vertical Trunk and out the Throwing Hand.
While a Pitcher stands on one leg, EVERY Arm and Leg action influences the Pitcher's ability to land an ideal "Foot Strike Sequence".
Lincecum just signed a two year $40M contract. ....and you are giving advice because....???
