Craziest thing I've seen in racing was back in the late 80's at a Busch Grand National race in Charlotte, Darrell Waltrip had engine trouble and promptly took his Superflo Aerocoupe off the track, to the tunnel underneath turn 4, and promptly drove the car down highway 49 to his hauler that was parked down the road. I can only imagine what the people on the road thought when they saw that thing thundering down the road!
Only a Bodine can pull that off

Thanks for posting this clip, Ruddfan. I haven't seen this since 1981!
I had particular interest in the 23 car in 1981-82 because the owners were from my hometown in Maine at the time.

The obvious thing would be to interview Geoff afterwards and ask him what the hell he was doing, but I guess that would be too much effort.

They did interview Bodine and showed it on TV.
I remember him saying something to the effect of, "It's been raining, and you can't drive these cars on the grass anyhow."
You can see that it was muddy where he was sliding.
He was able to rejoin the race because the damage was very minor.

Most likely the gas pedal stuck.

Use your head. If his throttle stuck, he would have been going faster...
gamewizard546 2 years ago
Sorry, I didn't realize it was in slow motion.
I feel stupid...
gamewizard546 2 years ago
if the throttle stuck he would have stayed on track more than likely, instead of risking peoples lives, maybe he was knocked unconcious?
