  • 1:51 the lady is bathing......the robot is such a pervert.

  • One of the greatest Science Fiction film of all times!! :D

  • weak

  • 1:05, THAT'S A STARMAN! GIYGAS IS COMING! GIYGAS IS COMING!

  • I don't think aliens give two hoots

    for coots nor humans

    So, why should humans care

about aliens more than their fellow human?

    That's a very good question.

If ya think what one does, doesn't impact the other, mother comes in to teach ya.

  • "not to take their conflicts into space"

does this include junk physical and non?

    Oink, oink, boink!

  • truly a classic. It's message was serious & many of the scenes were very sublte for sci fi on the silver screen at a time when most sci fi & action films were corny, cheezy, etc....... The design & Fx were excellent---checkout the scenes inside the spaceship, they have an amazing blend of art deco & futurism. whew, gr8 cast too.

  • I'll tell you what REALLY sucks; remaking brilliant movies like this just because film makers of today think they can do better. I'll let you into a secret THEY CAN'T!!!

  • I saw this when i was little. Thought it was decent for the times it was made.

  • those old science fiction movies really suck

  • A great film with a great message.

I hope we will one day listen!

This is what SI-FI is all about. Great acting combined with a great script and concept, the best!

  • No re-make can do justice to "TDTESS".

  • Let it happen

  • Jim Parsons as Klaatu? HAW!

  • Good old Rocket Age (or Cold War) Sci-Fi at its best.

  • holy shit, this movie's gonna give avatar 2 a run for its money

  • This is probably the movie I've seen the most. Just want to point out that it is the aliens who have a violence issue. At the time of Klaatu's visit, we had not even got to the moon, and we in no way could possibly menace any other planet in a million years, yet he threatens to turn Earth into a burned out cinder!

  • @Sammyjackson1488 We were threatening each other quite well back then. That was the point of the aliens.

  • @BlueCougar As I recall, Klaatu said what we do on Earth is none of his buisness, but when we threaten other planets, then we must be dealt with. At the time of Klaatu's visit, we did not threaten anybody but ourselves. Also, why do the aliens live in peace? Because there are, apparently, millions of Gorts everywhere, ready to incinerate anybody who so much as throws a gum wrapper on the sidewalk.

  • I know it's sad, but I just can't look at these old movies and believe them, I just can't....

I do really like the remake.

  • @doldol1 The truth will be harder to believe!!!!!

  • my great aunt was in there she played ms.barley

  • Awesome film, the original that is.

  • Quality classic.

  • This is what the earth needs to stop humanities petty fighting - an alien race who will kick our asses if we don't change...

  • @togalogs Well unfortunately that time has come to pass

  • great movie but the end sux

  • "You misunderstand," the mighty robot had said. "I am the master."

  • “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is based off the one day in Earth’s history when Chuck Norris slept.

  • 250 millions milles. Quite a ridulously small distant when referring to outer space. I have to agree with qrizzly. But perhaps the number was overwhelming to 1951 audiences who really had very limited knowledge of outer space. But just to give you an idea how silly small the number really is, and to put it into perspective, consider this: even MARS, our NEAREST neighboring planet, is more than 250 million miles away from us when our respective orbits place us that far apart.from each other!

  • better, either has no appreciation for film or grew up on a diet of mediocracy and Hollywoodized bullshit.

  • It saddens me when people even compare this to the remake. There is no comparison here. There is not even a validated opinion as to which is better. The fact is, this movie will forever go down as a masterpiece in the hearts of science fiction lovers, whereas the remake is just merely a Hollywood cash grab with CGI that instantly dates it and makes the "film" unwatchable ten years later.

This film is the quintessential 1950's alien invasion flick. Furthermore for anyone who says the remake is

  • The movie was a Christ metaphor...........He "Comes in peace"..........He is kind and full of grace........He comes from the Heavens....He preaches kindness to man....He dies and is reserructed .........He returns to the heavens.......

  • @heyrubes007 And he is a carpenter.

  • Punches "Karolis" in the balls........

  • A master piece...far better than the remake of 2008 which lacks of the original

message...inspite of the good effects and camera use...

  • Classic Movie thanks for posting

  • They are illegal aliens!

  • God bless the transmission that interrupted the FOX logo.

  • who thinks we should live without weapons etc, do u think we should live to improve ouir selves just incase an alien invaasion? i hope this message gets to the right person of the earth? micheal rennie came to earth with a peace warning? if the earths power is made to destroy our selves what is the point of living, giving the human race a chance to prove our selves were not hostlie to any living thing in space, plz coment in full? i love sci fic movies like this 1? and many others?

  • 250 million miles... what the fucking garbage.. Was that a cardboard costume? I can tell they used paper clips for the laser gun. this movie as an embarassment. revered by old people and social outcast fags. niggas be jaded. the new movie was better,

  • @kennykiller911 This person is an idiot who thinks everything has to be all up to date and in HD to be good. What a dick.

  • @kennykiller911 Your use of the word NIGGAS shows your ignorance you fucking loser. Go hang out with the rest of the shit holes at the homeless shelter. This movie has more class than you could even comprehend with that miniscule pea atop your head that you call a brain.

  • @CINEMALEXZIKON haters gonna hate the hater.

  • @kennykiller911 uh, really? What an intellectual response! Good luck with life. You're gonna' need it! Old people and social outcast fags you say? Just because we can relate to something that wasn't shot in color or has lots of pretty colors and explosions? JESUS MAN. Go back downstairs to your moms basement and come back out when you grow the fuck up!

  • @CINEMALEXZIKON @CINEMALEXZIKON its ironic, you insult me with complains of lacking "intellectual response", when you yourself cannot detect satire, then decend into empty, vain assumptions about my life. Its logical fallacy, and if your going to try and belittle me do so in a speculative manner, or upon subjects of what i have already presented. Otherwise, your words are desolate and meaningless. Creating an argument less substantial than space.

  • @kennykiller911 LOL. Niggas, Fags and social outcasts doesn't qualify as satire. Check your dictionary, check your rules of civil discourse, check your self. It's lazy, tired, pathetic and the ubiquitous Youtube/Facebook/Internet blog garbage that passes for "sarcasm". Sorry, gotta go. Got a life. Try it sometime.

  • @CINEMALEXZIKON Do you think a dictionary gives a rainbow justice? Concrete defnitions are for the plebians of society, without intrinisc creativity, facts anchor a majority populous, allowing for stability in civility. But for the elated, the theorist, the bohemian; pioneers of sentience, definitive existances are transient. Regardless, take a trip to your nearest college, or library even. present my comments and ask if satire is present. dont forget the context, ill bet my life anyone will agr

  • If like this film, you may enjoy my short film UFO SOS, which is on the Cyborlite channel.

  • cant wait to see this man! :O wow

  • One of my all time favorites!

  • the new one makes this one look like shit....

  • If you like this film, you'll like UFO SOS The Perfect Escape.

  • fuck theses slilly ads

  • Geez, I was awake the other day.. I think it was like 4am and turn on the tv and this movie was on.. it really got my attetion completly.. couldnt go back to sleep! amazing

  • There here !

  • Meh, the new ones better :P in my opinion of course :P

  • Actually, the earth didn't stand still...EVERYTHING else sped up enough to make it SEEM as if it did. So!, the title should 'ave been: "THE DAY EVERY THING ELSE SPED UP."

  • @zuzulo56 That could have been a title for the first Superman film.

  • @cha5 Very adroit observation, Charley!...AND you have a most interesting channel, with a goodly number of swell favorites. I encourage all to peruse your site.

  • Michael Rennie was ill that day, but he still told us where we stand...

    ...ON OUR FEET!

  • A Sci-Fi Pioneer!!! excellent movie

  • ugh fucking lame shut the fuck up all u old fucks that try to claim that these shitty blck n white movies r better than new ones

  • @kickmeout1 Go throw yourself under a car kid, The new movie is a turd.

  • @cha5 i wish old people would be banned from youtube... this is no place for u honestly.

  • @kickmeout1 Any kid who thinks that new film is worth anything besides pissing on contributes nothing worthwhile to YouTube except for spam sunshine.

  • @kickmeout1 Im 14 and i like this film alot. It has nothing to do with age, its just about taste. And we cant ban old people from this site because thats agism.

  • @kickmeout1 The remake has about as much substance as your comments punk, You have a crappy wooden leading actor, overblown CGI effects that can't cover up a craptacular script, that gets muddled up, When you can contribute something besides a video throwing a pillow at a wall and complete your high school education get back to us.

  • @cha5 cool story bro. i bet black and white movies were cool back in the era when words like "craptacular" were cool.

  • Comment removed

  • @kickmeout1 Cooler than a high school dropout who lives in his mommy and daddy's basement,

and who can't come up with anything more creative than a video of a pillow being thrown at a wall.

  • @kickmeout1 Although I have no problem in saying Keanu Reeves hasn't been cool in anything since the first Matrix film, and because he's being considered to be playing Kaneda in the upcoming live action Akira movie

:-P IMHO he's just gotten into the jumping the shark phase of his career.

  • this thing barely walks how it can destroy planet :D

  • @adoroci GPS vectored halitosis...KILLER HALITOSIS.

  • the movie is good , the concept is a strong sci-fi beleif,

    however the remake is better

  • @pushkarmittal the remake is nowhere near as good as this one was!

  • Heh. 250 million miles:)

  • One of the Greatest Movies ever made.

Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal were just Incredible in this All Time Classic.

  • 250 million miles ain't shit in space lol

  • great film

  • daaaamn look at them graphics thoo

not even avatar had this good of graphics. Looks so real aha

  • Those that have read the story on which the movie is based, "Farewell to the master", will probably recall the impressive way it ends. All the story is turned upside down in the very last phrase, rather, the very last word of the story. Whatever author I may be....., it is influenced by that ending.

    -.

  • The movie is really intelligent and impactant.

  • Horror novel about two boys who find something strange on the beach one night see video book trailer

  • Keanu Reeves made 57 profiles to dislike this masterpiece because he wish he could act

  • Isaac Asimov would have shit bricks after reading the remake movie plot.

  • I respect the 50's film maker they relayed on rotoscoping on sheet of glass, no fast computers!

  • Nasa said this is a film what could happen.

  • 250 Million Miles ? Yeah the came from one of the Jupiter moons :D

  • @Mampfie yeah they thought it sounded good at the time probably because half of the country probably thought Howdy dutie was a real lil boy. smh lol

  • rofl :D

  • yeahhhhhhhhhh

  • lmao xD:DD shit trololo

  • Most people these days can't see past special effects - they can only see with their eyes. Great movie about human nature.

  • This looks awfull lolololol

  • 2:10 lolz the baby (left-under) has a epic face

  • This movie had magic unlike the remake. A Sc-Fi classic just like I remember when I saw it in the 1950's.....

  • TIHS IS A CMOEDY RITE?

  • Michael Rennie was ill The Day the Earth Stood Still but he told us where we stand

  • This is the one and only Day The Earth Stood Still. The remake was a piece of crap.

  • Doode i just saw this version like no more then 30 minutes ago and it was waaaay better then the remake wow i mean just wow i thought how sad that the remake sucked so bad but serious i am glad i saw this version i almost didn't see it cause of the remake but i am glad i did now i want this version of the movie. =)

  • Look Magazine dont lie.. =)

  • lmao

  • This is pretty mnuch the perfect Sciuence Fiction Movie.

  • for me it keeps in suspense more than many nowadays movies :)

  • KLAATU BARADA NIKTO!!!

  • A near perfect movie. Pure sci fi gold. I prefer these old effects to CG any time.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH this made me laugh sooo hard

  • @bonsornoob

lmfao . so the guy in the astronaut suit was suppose to be the alien lmbo. wow fail

  • @msnywoman23 Pretty much, Michael Rennie was far more memorable than that cold fish Keanu Reeves in the remake.

  • An amazing film, this Robert Wise's master piece is way better than the remake which despite the special effects sound design and all the modern film making techniques is unable to catch your attention 100%,

  • navy = awesome

  • i wonder what will happen if u took the remake to the 40s or 50s and see what they think of it! I bet they will be like "holy shit that looks so dam real"

  • meny words are pure fact's in this movie...!! u will c soon my brothers

  • It proves that a good script with compelling actors will always be better than a special effecta-thon.

  • hahahahaa like WTF i see all these people here saying best movie and shit and much better then the new one, but look how fucking crappy this movie is i wouldn't waste my time for it even if i get a million dollars for it, the people who still like this shit are 50 year old people that just aint dead yet ROFLMAO.. seriously though who in gods fucking name wants to watch this crappy shit if there's a much better version out XD

  • So much better then the remake. This is intelligent. The remake is trashy CGI and a McDonald's commercial.

  • @JoeySkywalker123 So much worse than the remake. This is poop. This original is trashy CGI and a Look magazine commercial.

  • 250 milion miles lol they mean lightyears

  • One of the greatest films of all time. Infinitely better than the 21st century remake!

  • @Beamshipcaptain omg are u crazy lol ? how old are u just the fact they used to belive in that time make me LMAO lol not mantioning the crepy sound effeckts vissula efects and carekters lol its supose to be movie that make u think about the human race and be sourics but i lauth my azz at this old movie its like super comdy for me :P btw how old are u ? 80 90 ? :)

  • wow 250 million miles.....tht wouldnt get u very far

  • @ProTeamHKS Mars is 250 million miles away!

  • @ProTeamHKS the andromeda galaxy is 3.2 million light years away your looking into the past watch livening in the past by keith emerson

  • If our planet should ever be visited by beings from other worlds then let us hope that their moral development has kept pace with their technological development. If not, then the outlook for humankind would be grim indeed.

  • "They came 250 million miles out of space" LOL

  • in the original story Gort was the master and Klaatu his servant. try to find the original story and see for yourself.

  • @sdcow Quite right. The original story is called "Farewell to the Master."

  • @EWAdams thanks for the info. many years ago i think Marvel produced a comic version of the story.

  • is that nicholas cage at 0:44

  • @theguyi26 nicholas cage most likely was not born yet in 1955 :P hahaaaa

  • @pandakicker the film was made in 1951

  • @theguyi26

    the time traveling nick cage?

  • back off!

  • First one was great, the second one had awful acting and the alien was cold and not at all intelligent or endearing.

  • Back when the acting was cheesy, not all that good either. And back whenever the effects and costume desings weren't all that good either. I'm not hating on it, I'm just making a statement.

  • @ForeverNarutoUzumaki The man who played the alien had much better acting than Keanu. The original was MUCH better.

  • I consider;The Day the Earth Stood Still; 1951; movie to be one of the finest science fiction movies of all time;

there are many other good si fi, movies of course

even when watching it today it can still hold its own today

the visual history in this movie is wonderful considering its 60 years old

check it out. hope you like it ?

  • lol wtf is this shit, the modern one is way better

  • @dthibds oh please

    the remake is not better

heck the remake is not even a good movie

    grow up child

you do not need to use your potty mouth here

  • @hopdoehop lol u mad brah

  • @hopdoehop well the alien technology was better i havent seen ths one s i cant say the mvie is better

  • Base on Valient Thor's story.

  • What is that music theme in the background called?

  • Free Energy is real and its here! The Oil companies r doing everything they can to stop this

information. If you want a Free energy magnet motor , get the blueprints at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM , Join the

    revolution!

  • Patricia Neal just recently passed away. The only one left now is the kid. This is still an awesome classic that I never get tired of. The remake totally blows.

  • 2:07 i love how the music changes from all scarry to the fanfare XD

  • Comment removed

  • My first sci-fi movie I ever watched! My dad bought me the DVD to this, and I loved it.

  • I didn't understand anything from this movie :S

  • @Ice0ace What's not to understand? It is an anti-nuclear weapons statement. The writers are the children in us all in wishing that space aliens from another world would act like our parents and stop us from hurting ourselves with nuclear weapons. It's a fantastical story that is at the same time, entertaining and instructional. It's a morality play and thought provoking. It makes us all think about consequences of our actions and not to get too high and mighty with our nuclear powers.

  • One of the most intelligent sci-fi movies ever made.

    \

    vLaD

  • @VVhyDeathHurt super intelligent beings from other galaxys wouldnt interfere with developing planets they would train earthlings for generations to intercede in a crisis situation.

  • better than the remake.

  • @krazykrayon right!..in fact the remake had no success, too far from this original!

  • @krazykrayon the day the earth stood still high school version [its in here ] initialy in the 1980s they wanted to make a sequal where klatuus daughter comes here and shes mad as hell because they killed her father they should do it with christie canyon playing klatuus daughter [ no thats a porno actress] i mean chrissie hynde you know the girl from the pretenders .

  • @spacepatrolman But Klaatu was brought back by Gort and the high-Energy systems onboard the saucer, at the end of the first film, if you recall.

  • @Beamshipcaptain he was only brought back to life for a short amount of time to stop gort from destroying the earth and then he died [kind of a metaphor of the life of jesus the suit from the cleaners had the name carpenter on the tag ]chrissie was born in 51 the year the movie came out same thing with a guy named space patrolman whos real name is michael like rennie I have the paperback book from the movie with pictures

  • @spacepatrolman He did not die. He went back in to the ship, and it went back into space. Watch the DDVD again please, and actually LISTEN to the dialoge between Klatuu and Helen. SHe says"how long", and he says "you mean how long will I live? That no one can tell". Watch the movie again, please.

  • @Beamshipcaptain ive watched the movie a ridiculouse amount of times he said only the almighty spirit can determine how long one will live they wouldnt have wanted to base a sequal on his death otherwise

  • @spacepatrolman Helen: "you mean he (Gort) has the power of life and death?". Klaatu: "no that power is reserved for the almighty Spirit. THis technique, can restore life for a limited period". Helen: "but, how long", "you mean how long will I live? That no one can tell". You may have watche the movie numerous times, but you obviously do not remember the dialoge accurately. I have been watching this movie for over 30 years!

  • @Beamshipcaptain you sound like a 2 year old your looking it up I said he died and almighty spirit didnt i /dont trust anyone under 60

  • @spacepatrolman I did not look it up. I have been watching this movie since 1980, and I am under 60. I turn 50 at the end of May, 2011. I was born in 1961. Klaatu died via machine gun fire. And was brought back to life by the power unit on board the saucer, and I yesterday recited the dialoge verbatim. What more do you want?

  • @Beamshipcaptain grow up and get a job

  • @Beamshipcaptain what i said was right your a childish asshole we are going to organize boycotts of your company all over the internet

  • @Beamshipcaptain Do us a favor and stay off the internet your a troublemaker

  • @spacepatrolman You are the trouble maker. All I did was point out the correct facts and dialoge in this film, and you start insulting me. I never insulted you. You are the one who seems to have issues. Scroll down and see what I mean.

  • @spacepatrolman I know this comment is already half a year old. But it is so annoying. This is a perfect example of abusing the possibilities of the internet - not to mention the unneccessary use of personal insults. It is just a conversation about a movie and you may have different opinions - that is all. You should listen to yourself "we are going to organize boycotts of your company"...... What for??? Why??? What has this to do with a private conversation on youtube???
