The fact is, this movie will forever go down as a masterpiece in the hearts of science fiction lovers, whereas the remake is just merely a Hollywood cash grab with CGI that instantly dates it and makes the "film" unwatchable ten years later.

@msms47 I was born in 1961. THis movie came out ten years before I was born. This movie is a fictionalized version of real events that actually happend in 1958. Life imitated art. THis is a thrilling and important movie. Far better than the awful remake! Plus, the movie is a warning against postwar ballistic missile and nuclear weapons warfare preparations. I feel sorry for your generation. But there are signs things are getting better overall.
If our planet should ever be visited by beings from other worlds then let us hope that their moral development has kept pace with their technological development. If not, then the outlook for humankind would be grim indeed.
Back when the acting was cheesy, not all that good either. And back whenever the effects and costume desings weren't all that good either. I'm not hating on it, I'm just making a statement.
Patricia Neal just recently passed away. The only one left now is the kid. This is still an awesome classic that I never get tired of. The remake totally blows.

The writers are the children in us all in wishing that space aliens from another world would act like our parents and stop us from hurting ourselves with nuclear weapons. It's a fantastical story that is at the same time, entertaining and instructional. It's a morality play and thought provoking. It makes us all think about consequences of our actions and not to get too high and mighty with our nuclear powers.

Why do you resort to printed insults when I pointed out the correct dialoge in this film that I have been watching for over 30 years, and have had on VHS for 29 years, and have had the DVD for six years? @msms47 I was born in 1961. THis movie came out ten years before I was born. This movie is a fictionalized version of real events that actually happend in 1958. Life imitated art. THis is a thrilling and important movie. Far better than the awful remake! Plus, the movie is a warning against postwar ballistic missile and nuclear weapons warfare preparations. I feel sorry for your generation. But there are signs things are getting better overall.

@Ice0ace What's not to understand? It is an anti-nuclear weapons statement. The writers are the children in us all in wishing that space aliens from another world would act like our parents and stop us from hurting ourselves with nuclear weapons. It's a fantastical story that is at the same time, entertaining and instructional. It's a morality play and thought provoking. It makes us all think about consequences of our actions and not to get too high and mighty with our nuclear powers.

@spacepatrolman I did not look it up. I have been watching this movie since 1980, and I am under 60. I turn 50 at the end of May, 2011. I was born in 1961. Klaatu died via machine gun fire. And was brought back to life by the power unit on board the saucer, and I yesterday recited the dialoge verbatim. What more do you want?
