  • He once said that he felt trapped if he couldn't commit suicide at any moment. That must have been why he wanted to bring the gun on the plane. I'm sorry that he was sad.

  • can everyone shut the fuck up about johnny fucking depp? this isn't about his lame ass.

  • Dose any one see what he is trying to say. Its not comedy its truth he has a way of seeing passed bullshit. That people see as comedy or extream drug usage but people dont look passed that fact. Fuck Leterman for looking at him like he is diffrent.

  • Hard to believe this dude may actually have directed a snuff film, according to Rusty Nelson (a photographer embroiled in the Franklin Cover-Up scandal). H.S. Thompson soon committed suicide in 2005...never believed it completely...but then the "I like to kill" reference...I'm not trying to diss the guy at all, i felt he was a talented writer, a left-over from the 60s, who appeared to just be "not right for these times"

  • @SuperOmnicron Snuff film, are you fucking kidding?

  • @SuperOmnicron

In defense of your comment, let me just say that when a person committs suicide, they usually have serious issues (obviously). I think the "snuff film" theory would support this.... Just my 2 cents... Afterall, he does seem extremely unstable on this clip...

  • Hunter was very alive and very with Truth. He worked hard. He was funny. But he was a total prophet and the man. He was himself; which is all any of us can ask. Go to Google and search The Truth Contest, click on the first result, then click on The Present. If not for the world, for yourself.

  • @Anaemnesis I was never any other animals. That's just retarded. "I" only really started existing when I was about 4, before that I was barely more than quivering nerves attached to a spine. "You" barely even exist if you're not even aware of it.

  • I wonder if Hunter was on Tuinals during this interview.

  • Holy shit... Depp just nailed this guy. He should have one the Academy Award.

  • So, I liked Depp quite a bit, but looking at the man himself does anyone else think J.K. Simmons could play him?

  • Letterman hasn't been funny since......ever. He's been doing the same bullshit act since before I was born. Hunter is obviously fucked up, otherwise he wouldn't have done the show.

  • I'm a Doctor if Journalism, man.

  • rambling is what you religious zealot nuts do. thompson is preaching you stupid inbred fuck! go kill yourselves. you all are a shame on the human race (and that's a pretty hard thing to do now.)

  • Panie Hunter, dzięki za twórczość, Mistrzu.

  • R.I.P my motherfucking hero

  • back when you could still smoke on tv :)

  • what the fuck is he saying

  • 33 people are swine...

  • ahahaha, put audio subtitles on, LOL!

  • Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

  • @Thechap36 oh my... Is this actually true?

  • drugs can be a terrible thing, when done in excesses....

  • its funny how drug users find it so hard to sit still

  • coked out HARD!

  • lol@ google captions

  • This dude is my hero. There was just something about him.

  • @DeIyzid He had so many opposites going on that made him, him. Very endearing chap

  • "What are you doing?"

    "I dunno man"

    This guy is a legend.

  • Comment removed

  • Was there something wrong with his mouth? It's like it's wired shut or something.

  • Say what?

  • You know that he should have been president.

  • Turn on the subtitles for the real story

  • I would love to sit down with this guy and smoke weed all night would be fucking classic, and for a laff i would pull a big knife out and say lets kill some shit mannnnn lmao get him all paranoid lol

  • wow. legend.

  • Lolol turned on the subtitles.. When he said something about a redheaded step child it put that he said "were going to look after the retarded structural."

  • he was a good right winger at heart

  • He may be whacked out on ibogaine though

  • @gonzobonzonofonzo or adrenochrome?

  • He actually got very nervous on camera. Check out him interviewing Keith Richards. He gets so nervous Keith ends up interviewing him

  • Win at 7:56 - Some day you'll have enough time to have a serious talk :)

  • this is your brain after eating half a sheet of sunshine blotter acid..shouldve made it to the thorazine quicker there hunter!

  • @paulpz2004 Not just acid man, this is also the result of smoking opium, excessive drinking, inhaling either, snorting cocaine etc. all of which Hunter S. Thompson was quite famous for, even more than his journalism skills lol :) .

  • turn on the youtube subtitles, it actually transcribes what he's saying!

  • lol, he flew to NY with a rifle in his hand luggage.....now you cant get on plane with a pair of nail scissors.

  • i want some of what he's on.

  • i can't understand a word he's saying!

  • Wow, that is something to live up to: "If you are innocent, you can do anything" 2:07

  • Holy shit johnny depp did an awesome job on him in fear and loathing

  • I shot up at highschool, thanks to the guidance of this man. Thanks HST - you will live forever

  • There's something very sad about this interview; the phrase "fish out of water" comes to mind.

  • fuck subtitles, if you don't understand then you aren't worthy of thompson commentary. get with the mumbling mutherfucker

  • Johnny Depp got to know HST, but I found what I read, via Playboy for example, he's got some ideals he believes that aren't necessarily a sane persons! I find it strange he was as notable because normally you can't function too good being messed up on substances

  • Now I see how good actor Depp is.

  • @TheElilay definitely!!!! he did a great job acting Hunter! in every move he made, and especially the speech :))

  • @TheElilay yeah but imagine how fun it was for Depp to play it. No such thing as a mistake acting this man.

  • @TheElilay You should check out the film "Where the Buffalos Roam". It stars Bill Murray as Hunter and it was made before Fear and Loathing.

In all honesty, I think Bill did a better job.

  • Er haselett miyeko George Bush sense of ubytwellric that molopp hewxcelt weird animals letbyum basell you ken see where I'm going with this might as welll jezop undragout.

  • Why are the best writers unable to talk? Find Bukowski on here - he is just the same.

  • @MrShepperson Probably because they write.

  • @MrShepperson Untrue. He speaks quite profoundly, just S-L-O-W-L-Y.

  • How sad. There's so much hoopla, legend and myth surrounding Hunter S. Thompson but if the only thing you knew about Thompson was what you saw here you would simply think this was a troubled, disturbed, unstable and unfortunate middle-aged man you'd give change to on the street or find talking to himself in a mental institution.

  • Don't turn on captions. MAKES IT MORE CONFUSING.

  • Jesuits are also evil.

  • Depp is from Kentucky as Hunter. Small world.

  • @wikkid61 what about Bill Murray? eh eh? He was the first Actor to play Hunter.

  • raccoons are weird animals.

  • So depp, acts like this guy?

  • Should've given Hunter some subtitles

  • @bleedingxxaurora

Totally. Love the guy, but can't understand what he's saying half the time.

  • @bleedingxxaurora It would be perfectly clear if the audio wasn't so bad.

  • Fascinating

  • If your innocent you can do anything

  • dave should quit interrupting him!

  • Lol turn on the captions.

  • @The360dot "rumors of drugs"

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't shoot up my high school because I had HST there to show that I'm not alone and that it's okay to be an outsider and a freak. I smoked lots of weed, read his books, and just chilled the fuck out. Thank you, Dr. Thompson. R.I.P.

  • dave was nice. hunter is himself. good.

  • He was right godamn it to fuckin hell !! Hunter S Thompson the greatest American writer of the 60s dream, a man who saw that dream disappear and he saw the people he hated take over the country he loved ,a true patriot, a great man! We could do with you now Hunter the worlds gone to shit like u said, make people afraid and a government can just about anything. Im a brit we're on americas coat tails in a fuckin war the people dont want by a gov who make poor poorer the rich richer godamn fuckit!

  • Sound is muddy. Argh!

  • i cant uderstand i need subtitles

  • Watching this interview you realize how good Johnny Depp's portrayal was

  • boo david letterman, boo

  • it took him the entire interview to light that cigarette

  • he is so delightfully insane. i adore him

  • Evolution is beautiful and if anything it proves even more so the existence of God. Nothing is random. Every negative has a positive. Out of chaos comes harmony. Jesus Christ is our savior in the sense that he is in all of us because we are capable of acting the same as he did. We are all in the same extraordinary situation. Why argue about it. Everything is true if you believe it to be. We are the same and we are all the sons of God. Just be thankful that you were even born...

  • george bush sr. guiltiest man in politics, agreement among catholic university students 2 to 1! so...stomp him to death when he comes on stage.

and then he gets his cig lit.

  • george bush sr. guiltiest man in politics, agreement among catholic university students 2 to 1! so...stomp him to death when he comes on stage.

  • hunter is not in hell idiots he was a realist he was a heart felt man who wanted a peaceful world get your facts right before you judge him , hunter fought the civil rights movement and tried to stop nixon destoy America he was a patriot and no one forget that

  • the guy is wasted on cocaine

  • thompson shot himself....sad that he did that..now he's in hell, suffering for all eternity...i still pray for him, but nothing will ever get him out of hell....he shouldn't have given up on life. God Bless!

  • @ttrrissttaan lolololololololololololololololol

  • @ttrrissttaan there's no hell, weirdo.

  • @WhippetsOnAcid you'll be full of regret soon enough. God Bless(i WILL pray for your lost soul!) Jesus Christ is your Savior! Don't turn away from Him mate. He loves you, and I love you too. Take care

  • @ttrrissttaan ok there smart one, then explain why the good book believes the world was created about 6,000 years ago when in fact it has been here billions of years, and how about your thoughts on the universe. Are all the other people in places around the world who are Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Janist, ect. going to hell because they have different beliefs? Thats a very screwed way to think.

  • @rsohlich1 show me Proof of that...because no archaeologist, nor scientist has ever been able to prove evolution, or that the earth is that old....lol! it shows your stupidity...i don't even have to debate you on this rofl...you proved yourself wrong with your ignorance. God Bless

  • @ttrrissttaan Evolution is a fact sir. it happens everyday. it is simply organisms adapting to their environment. you ignorant christians amaze me. your world is so dark and empty.

  • @pwerplnblak i have yet to see a single monkey, or read about one that has given birth to a human baby.....i have yet to see a fish walk out of water and become a human.....evolution is already disproven rofl..I actually feel sorry for you my friend, for being willingly stupid...i'll pray for you though God Bless!!!

  • @ttrrissttaan And that same person you're calling an idiot has yet to see God himself perform a miracle.

  • @ttrrissttaan Dude you're going to heaven so enjoy, I'll be down in hell where the good music is ha ha.

  • @ttrrissttaan Well.. I'm pretty sure that's not how evolution was described to me in school. However, you may be right. Who really knows? It's a theory. It's not a perfect theory. I don't particularly agree with every bit of it, but I'm pretty sure parts of the theory have been proven. In fact I can prove some of it to you any time you like. If you have so much faith it can't hurt to hear exactly how you are wrong, right? I guess we'll see.

  • @ttrrissttaan are you joking or being serious?

  • @ttrrissttaan are you a performance artist?

  • @ttrrissttaan Your assuming the 'officia'l story to be factual, but: 1. No witness to the fatal shot. 2. The final judgement call on Mr. Hunter's soul is God's. 3. Catholic's (Jesuits Order) are Pagan based on Roman Occultist.

  • Yeah, you can see Hunter channeling Johnny Depp!

  • i don't see why people looked/look up to this loser..he shot himself to death...why follow that crap? lol!!! but then again, we have a dumbed down society, of whom cannot think for themselves...

  • Comment removed

  • @ttrrissttaan regarding people who can't think for themselves, i would argue that more listen to bill o'reilly than hunter s thomson

  • @ttrrissttaan of whom cannot think....? Nice grammar. Clearly, you do your own thinking.

  • @ttrrissttaan Yeah, like all the idiots that just plug their brain into the tv and get all of their information from the Fox Network?

  • @ttrrissttaan yeah... he was a real liberal alright...

  • @ttrrissttaan Hunter was a very complicated and intelligent man. Have ever read his work? He's not an idiot.

  • If I received a dime for every Liberal that says they'll leave the states if a Republican is elected president, I'd offer to pay their air fair out because they always let me down!

  • *mumblemumblemumblemumblemumblemumble*

  • Is it only me or is Mitch Pileggi aka Skinner in X-files the spitting image of Hunter Thompson?

I only see Skinner when I see Hunter Thompson or maybe the other way around.

  • JOHNNY FUCKIN DEPP

  • " Thompson rambles about the '88 election.", really?? Fuck you bitch, more like expressing the truth in a magical way

  • Another movie about Thompson that gets little attention compared to Fear and Loathing is Where the Buffalo Roam, with Bill Murray as Thompson. His voice sounds exactly like Hunter's. So, he as well as Johnny did Hunter a good level of justice.

  • @jmf459 It Was A Good Performance By Bill Murray But A Mediocre Movie.

  • @tictixtiv Are you kidding me? When he's handing in his story??? "Have a nice day..."..."LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIIAAAMONDS."

  • @jmf459 Yeah ive watched it a few times but you cant say Bill came any where near the level Depp reached.

  • @jmf459 That movie blows. Bill Murray is the Norm McDonald of the 80s. He's there for people who think they are smart and sophisticated in their humor. In reality those people don't know shit from shinola, and like Bill and or Norm just to look cool. Little do they know Bill and Norm weren't funny to begin with.

  • @SuperStrik9

Norm MacDonald is hilarious. If you disagree you probably haven't seen the right interviews.

  • @SuperStrik9 Bill Murray is a genius. I don't see how that makes anyone look cool. However busting out terms about knowing shit from shinola is a sure fire way to look like a fucking idiot.

  • @jmf459 With regret I tell you this, only because it ruined it for me because I knew before I saw it, but Hunter loathed Where the Buffalo Roam. But he did like Murrays performance.

  • I just got back from a screening of "Rum Diary"...holy cow...great flick.

  • It is common for people to accuse others of Child molestation if those people are in the public eye and controversial. See my video Remember The Wire here on Youtube and see the child in the video. He just got out of the shower and my wife a nurse had just bathed him and he picked up my dog Bow Bone, a yorkie. It was a photo shoot.

    Mobile Audit Club....google search us

  • can someone summarize this? i can't understand what the fuck he's saying ;/

  • The one and only cool bald guy, ever~!

  • @FletcherHabit what about larry david?

  • @downcard11 Larry David is brilliant and great but I dont think hes cool really

  • @FletcherHabit he's so cool, are you kidding? i named my cat after him, that's how cool he is.

  • @downcard11 upon further examination and analysis I have concluded that you are infact quite correct. I was temporarily perceiving my reality erroneously.. I have since realigned with the flow

  • @FletcherHabit glad you came back to the reality where larry david is totally the man. ahahah.

  • @downcard11 Larry David is quick witted and hella funny but I dont think hes The Man really.. lolllll

  • holy shit. J.K. Simmons!!!

  • "If you're innocent you can do anything" I wonder what he would think today.

  • holly crap johnny depp did an amazing job.

  • @stonedtoperfection22 They were pals, he had plenty of time to observe and pick up his mannerisms and cadences.

  • @samdogdamndog2 thats interesting but I cant find any videos of them together. I've watched Fear loathing many times but this was the first time I've seen Hunter. It just shows how talented Johnny is even if they spent time together.

  • @stonedtoperfection22 haha. exactly what i was thinking

  • @stonedtoperfection22 and bill murray

  • @stonedtoperfection22 Dude you're so right. Just the way Johnny acts and sounds in the movie mirrors Hunter. Hearing Hunter's voice reminds me of a scene from Fear and Loathing, when Roaul is checking into the hotel on acid like "I realize his name is not on the list, but we must have that suite."

Also not to mention he looked just like him too.

  • @AnonymousWR Yes! The hotel scene:). I think the reason Depp did so well is because he spent countless hours with him. I've been told Depp and Thompson spend a few days in a hotel doing all sorts of drugs but I cant find proof of it.

  • Wow letterman is such a douche for patronizing hunter here, hunter is a much more important and accomplished man than he will ever be

  • @20thCenturySir Letterman has always been a fucking self-serving asshole.

  • must've been some good=ass blow.

  • I would hazard to guess he is afflicted with Asperger's syndrome. His inability to look in Letterman's eyes and his nervous manner are big clues. It is a form of Autism, but those afflicted are highly functional. They are usually above average in intelligence, there is speculation that Einstein was also afflicted. Amazing that HST was able to capture those wild thoughts and write them down. A brilliant author of our generation.

  • Yeah, that sort of fits the guy, 'liking to kill'. A disturbed, psychotic CIA -asset sold as a rebel of genius to the masses who, as they always do, swallowed the illusion hook, line and sinker.

The guy is substandard in all respects, certainly not a genius. Full of rage, disturbed, underdeveloped ethically, another typical hero for society's dulled down idiots.

All the guy did was contributing to lowering the standards some more. Fear and loathing, much better than fun & inspiration, ain't it?

  • @suddenlyitsobvious

It's great that we have visionaries like you to break down the truth for the unwashed masses. I don't know what we would do without you.

  • @voodoochild1990

    Get dumber?

  • @voodoochild1990

Well in reality, there's indeed not too much point saying these things since the unwashed masses only BELIEVE what they want to believe, which is in 99,9% of cases what they've been spoonfed. They can not explore data independently or check and address an argument and must typically rely on an insipid kind of cynicism mixed with a solid dose of agression.

However, it might be of use to a few lone, discerning individuals...

  • @suddenlyitsobvious

Well, it would be a shame for someone of such a high caliber as yourself to waste your talents trying to explain things to the rest of humanity, who are obviously beneath you. It must be incredibly difficult to walk among common people, knowing that your advanced intelligence and analytical skills allowing you to see deeper truths that the rest of us can only dream of. I'm sure your accomplishments speak for themselves and far exceed a substandard man kike Hunter S. Thompson

  • @voodoochild1990

    *allow

  • @voodoochild1990

I note with sadness that you are more interested in me than in my statements, wherefore this, let's call it 'exchange', fails to captivate my attention. So long and enjoy your heroes' accomplishments.

  • @voodoochild1990

    *aggression'

  • god when i saw fear and loathing i was like wtf johnny depp i dont get it and now it makes sence the guy is astonishing

  • by this time this gentleman was so physically effected by his years of use and abuse that he seemed so strained just to sit still and carry some form of thought process, he must have had a hella an editer. And also, he musta been a heela man in his youth I imagine.

  • so many people have never felt the Fear. I feel like Hunter should of embraced the mystic fallacy, you can always tell he wanted to. He was just swallowed by the loathing. Dealing with idiots all his life, as many intelligent people are forced to do.
