  • genius idea...now that were facing global warming, this is the best idea to cool our meals...=)

  • These are a must have for us because in winter if the sun is out but snow is on the ground you can still cook. And for backpacking the one that breaks down is great for cooking in. And they keep the heat out of my kitchen in our 100* summer days here in CA

  • Why isn't it their fault that they have barely progressed past the stone age?

I am all for sharing technology withe them. It is just a damn shame that it takes Western civilization (white people) to lift them out of poverty. They ought to be falling all over themselves thanking the Anglo-American culture for dragging them into the 21st century.

  • @harleyxxfabco it's not their fault because if they could just drive down to Walmart or Target and pick up all this shit they would. But they can't for various reasons like lack of money, resources and a good government, none of which is their fault. they obviously are grateful for the help they're receiving. and really, we should probably be doing more to help people in these countries when we've got it so good without nearly doing as much as they do just to survive.

  • The sun is probably sayin yeaa snap I cooked that shit

  • Awesome.

  • when it can reach 350 degrees F and not blind people when they walk by it i will surely get one

  • Soon we will be forced to use solar energy to cook , heat homes, boil water, light fires and smoke cannabis.

  • Comment removed

  • @harleyxxfabco racist ass. Not thier fault they are deprived of knowledge that most people take for granted. Is it not fair to share this so that they can live better. I'm sure if thier own people and country wasen't trying to screw them over they could be showning us what to do. Just get over it.

  • This video has busted the myth that sustainable energy generation is expensive. This is an eye-opener and a definite inspiration.

  • @abneyone It'd be impossible to do frequently in the Philippines. Your lungs would die from the pollution outside. but i'd like to see it done, nevertheless

  • Solar ovens are becoming very popular in Bolivia! I´m glad to see people using them in Cali also!

  • ow do i get one of those stoves??

  • Kudos to all involved. I would like to make one suggestion. Very dark sunglasses with uv protection should be standard equipment for any one cooking with a solar stove or oven.

  • lol, did he just call them "shiny things"?

Someone please get the Africans to use these so they'll stop cutting all their trees down and help them get out of the stone age. They get more Sun than anyone.

  • Awesome, easy fixes to make life much better to live.

  • I love the pasteurization meter, even though my electricity is included in my rent, I still use my solar cooker all the time. change starts from within.

  • I would love to see that catch on on the Philippines. I've made my own solar oven and it works great. But it's not something that most people want to cook with at this time.

  • A fellow Pinoy.. I also want to see that catch on here.

  • I agree, Reflector. This is a great demonstration of the nearly free technology already available worldwide!

  • That has to be one of the best video demonstrations of the potential and need for solar cooking out there. Nice clip.

  • The obama deception is a cheap rip off from zeitgeist. They just stole some clips and reedited it.

  • Very enlighting

  • yuck!!!!!

  • lol? check what you type before you post it, 6500 million is 6.5billion idiot, you said its not 2.5 its only 6.5 lol

  • why u r so stupid 6500 = to a sixthousand5hundreed millions., aint even a 2.5 billion much lees 6.5 billion dommie., i challange u to write a fucking billion., prove me im wrong., u dont no nothing about #s, i go easy on u if u have $6500 why u dont said u have $6million and 5 hundreed., dig it stupid, how on that hell u going to jump from 6500 millions to a 2 billions muche less to a 6 billion dont be stupid. ending write, 6500 millions and then write 6.5 billion with all the ceros for both #s

  • I were writing about E coli. Paul Stemets, sdcientist and mushroom expert with lectures on you tube, found that growing mushrooms reduced the e coli to barely registrable levels.. He found their hypha put out a crystline substance which detects e coli and once detected the mushroom mycelium produce anogther substance that attracts and stuns E coli, which the mushroom eats. e cole cant be the only microbe in water but still the information might help you. rose

  • I made a solar oven out of a pizza box!

  • awesome.

  • Someday it's gonna be our turn to kidnap other people from another planet and stick something up their ass.

  • lol i remember in 3rd grade, we got a pizza box, put foil inside the lid, and put plastic wrap on the bottom lid. a solar oven! we baked cookies in it...it works, but the cookies were so wet and almost not cooked haha!

  • borderinspector that is not what you're mom said

  • got a do what u got to do !!!

  • This is cheap, easy, and great. Sort of like your mom.

  • I Lol'd!!!

  • not funnyv

  • Or yours. Get a life.

  • Ironically, we're all two paychecks away from living like these people.

Save African top soil from ending up in the ocean. Save the trees.

  • saves the women, the top soil, etc.

It means nothing to you until someone takes a four mile walk through rebel territory out of your day

  • i think is wonderful, and could be nice we can use the same energy all of us to save the planet

  • we need more of thses and legalize weed

  • that's cool

  • Great Video, thanks for the kind sharing*

  • type this on youtube: ''Al Gore sued by over 30.000 Scientists for fraud / John Coleman''

  • global warming is a hoax. You can look up videos of John Coleman on YouTube and watch those to start learning the truth on that.

  • I used to live in Ghana. There was almost always sunshine. Even during the rainy season, it rarely was completely cloudy the entire day. And, obviously, on the days that that there's little or no sunshine you could substitute with wood or coal.

Do you have any idea how much time could be freed up by using solar power? People wouldn't have to spend time in the bush collecting firewood, and those who previously used coal could save money by not having to purchase as much anymore.

  • "PEOPLE HAVE BEEN USING FIRE WOOD SINCE THE BEGINNING!!!"

in 1000 BCE world population was 30 million. when cro magnon lived population was in thousands. today we have 6 billion. thats a lot of wood, oil, electricity needed to cook. sun is available most of the time. look out and tell us how many times its cloudy in noon. unless you live in england, tropical countries around the equator benefit from solar cookers.

  • This is absolutely brilliant. How wonderful to give these people a form of cooking which is not only good for the environment and affordable but, offers them more time for themselves and/or their families and friends.

  • No one took anything out of context, you need to comprehend what is in front of you before spilling your sub-human opinions.

My quotes were not weak , the truth was spoken-I thought someone of your statute could understand it explained in simplified wording, but I assumed wrong.

    Wow your a real winner,lol.

  • Sibgyp:

Why would they have to walk 2-3 miles for wood, that was stupid to say.

    Burning eyes, lungs and choking,,lmao

Those things happen from house fires not a basic small wood fire for cooking.

Natural wood burning does not contribute to pollution dumbass, get your facts right.

Wood burning is a natural occurrence, thats why there are wild fires to refurbish the earth. The natural cycle/recycle

And any fire/stove/etc requires a watchful eye period. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

  • Way to take things out of context, great job...

Perhaps someday you'll learn to present a sound counter argument, but until then I guess you two will have to settle for your weak informal fallacies.

  • Why don't YOU burn fire woods and expose your face to its smoke. Let's see if you survive.

  • Comment removed

  • 13 yrs old?

Your opinion is obviously based on zero knowledge/experience of using wood for cooking or heating purposes.

And if you do have any at all, maybe you were not taught the correct and safe usage of burning wood.

  • dont tell us you're so stupid.

yes, they walk miles to gather wood. is there a tree in front of every house?

yes, the smoke burns eyes. the word "burns" has several meanings. hey, chili burns but where is the fire? if you take a look they dont have a stove and a chimney. its a regular bonfire, smoke is everywhere.

and wildfires dont benefit. humans, animals are killed, too much CO2 goes out. dead trees are eaten by bugs or burried (coal is wood and swamps from carboniferous period).

  • holyspringrolls

    Oh geesh a rambling idiot...

    lmao.....

Gee you sound like one of those activist, brainwashed and continuing your infectious beliefs.

Fires in the wild are natural, refurbishing the earth, even animals die because of natures force, thats the way it is suppose to be. As far as humans go, if they did not consume the animals habbitat, maybe they would'nt die from the wild fires.

You don't have to tell us your stupid, you prove it with your words and attacks.

    Blah Blah Blah....

  • I have no beliefs, I support all with evidence. are wildfires good? show us an article in any scientific journal that claims wildfires give us a benefit. do you know what else is "natural"? asteroids, volcanic eruptions, ice ages that caused extinctions. hey, it happens in nature, it must be refurbishing the earth.

do you realize what higher CO2 levels do? ever heard of greenhouse effect? its one of the reasons venus is so hot.

and its "you're stupid", not "your". learn how to spell.

  • look where you are from. an american laughing at people that get their eyes burned in smoke. what does my location of residence, have anything to do with this argument? why shouldnt I talk about global issues on a website available internationally?

hey, why dont you solve your own issues in america before judging people in poorer countries? are you doing anything? I work at the dockyard and support an orphanage. what are you doing to make america a better place?

  • "As far as humans go, if they did not consume the animals habbitat, maybe they would'nt die from the wild fires"

humans are animals. our biological kingdom is animalia. see for yourself. where else could humans live except in their animal habitat? if the forest is on fire and humans live near or in it, their homes can catch fire too and endangers their lives.

tell to australian families of more than 200 victims that the bushfires in victoria were beneficial.

  • I've been to navy. is that nothing? your fellow americans are in the navy too. are they wasting their time too? now I manage a dockyard. you know, the place where ships dock. its like an airport. I am almost in charge of everything.

btw anyone can lie. your claim to have BA cant prove anything.

and human origins are in africa. would you still bash africa, if you would have a degree from microbiology? dna analysis shows us we are all related to africans. yeah, so much about your education.

  • and british colonized australia and usa. unless you are black, latino, arabian, asian, you are all the same white people, cro magnons, that once lived in european caves and reproduced with each other. you would be living in australia if columbus wouldnt be searching for a shortcut to india.

what about those wildfires in california? how many americans died from them? if you think aussies were idiots, were americans also idiots for living too close to wildfires?

  • what a coincidence. that guy in the video is a microbiologist and you claim the same.

whats subhuman about africa? cause africans didnt write or built anything big? did native americans write? how many large buildings were built by native north americans? did koreans write until chinese give them writing?

look carefully who is an idiot. you think you can control the smoke from a bonfire, you bash everyone you dont like, even if your fellow citizens suffer the same things.

    get a life.

  • listen, you cant call yourself smart and educated if you cant tell the difference between "your" and "you're". freshmen in high school write like that, not someone with a bachelors.

  • Pretty cool stuff. But I suppose this requires strong, consistent sunlight for much of the year.

  • LMAO, does'nt a man made fire outside do the same thing and not using electricity or gas? Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

And an out side man made fire sure cooks things faster than that gadget, lol

  • "Running out of traditional fuels"

"They have to walk about 2-3 miles or so to collect wood and then they have to tend the fire... it burns their eyes and chokes their lungs."

"... pollution has contributed to the deaths of 2-3 million woman and children each year."

  • I have videos about using clay as the backing for large "compound" parabolic and "w curve" dishes for long time cooking and way cheaper cookers. Also a project on instructables where anybody can use software to design a better reflective dish. (Parabolic is NOT the best shape for a stationary concentrating reflector!)

  • we should all use this to save our environment. i wanna buy one!

  • cool - The sun is cool!

  • how high can the temperature reach up to? it would be nice if there's a device installed to store this energy for a rainy day, literally... heheh...

  • kewwll

  • what we need are "galactic" missionaries from other star systems to come and help us out here on earth. too many people are still so selfish and are bigots to give up their wealth and spread it to all who can benefit. i invite you guys from other star systems to earth to help us better our planet for the greater good of the cosmos!

  • Solar stoves rule!

  • KEWL!

  • If the solar stove is made using corrugated plastic sheeting, it should last ten or twenty years, but still cost only about $5

  • Dude, u've no idea how ignorant u just showed urself to be. I'll explain so that even a lummox like urself might understand.

if u had any kind of education or knowledge beyond how to serve Big Macs, u'd be aware of major inventions & historical achievements over centuries by people out of Africa. So u show that u don't know about SO MUCH shit to be asking that question *lol* !

Go ask someone how to use google, then go answer ur own question. I hope no one here helps u out of your ignorance.

  • Kahnweiler: google negro inventors.

  • there is no such thing as a "negro" inventor. you are in a space of separation and fear. release yourself from bigotry. every inventor on the planet is an earth inventor! every variety of our species is blessed with special gifts that benefit the whole! all are necessary and needed.

  • Hello buggfire,

I couldn't help noticing your comment about there being "no negro inventors".

As a committed Christian, I call a spoon a spoon, no political correctness necessary with Christianity.

People can be classified into two groups; Christians & non Christians.

Further from that, people can be classified by race, take for example; Caucasoid race, Negroid race, Capoid race, Mongoloid race, Australoid race. These are ALL anthropological races, which exist, separated since the tower of Babel

  • Have you heard about Dr. Drew and blood transfusion. Have you heard about Egyptian civilization and all of the things they invented. Used geometry in building, wear a wedding band or drink beer? All from the Egyptians. Look at the people drawn on their tombs. Ever use the phrase the real McCoy? Wonder where steel making originated from? This all off the top of my head. I love history . You should read some good history books.

  • I like crack, you should have some.

  • lol the lady at the end was so cute! "okay solar cookah!" it'd be awesome to own one if you had the extra space in your yard.. but how long does it take to fully cook meat?

  • Those solar cookers are awesome.

  • that's awesome - more power to them! saving lives and trees by simply using the sun!

  • WOW

  • Does the plastic work like a mini/controlled greenhouse effect ? O_O

  • O_o if this technology is from long ago ... why didn't they have done it a long time ago O_o?

and it's only natural that the sun can heat up food. why didn't they done this into act sooner ?

if we did, many lives would be saved by now =_=

  • Really great, when technology is used not used to kill but to improve the lifestyle of ones less fortunate than us.

  • yikes,4slayerfan4 gives free speech a bad name.

  • 1:50 isn't that the baboon off of lion king?

  • Now that's just mean...

  • Seems pretty good except that it only works during the day, but better then millions of people dropping dead from smoke and desease.

  • Yet another step to redemption.

  • a grandness invention!

    nice

  • hmm but you don't always eat during the day do you? wouldn't it be a better idea to give countries technology which not only harnesses the sun's energy, but then stores it and makes it usable for all sorts of things?

  • this is really cool!! I would love to cook this way, a very good idea for poor countrys also

  • now thats a good idea.

  • Would work very nice in the poorer parts of Africa and India.

  • Damn how long do you have to wait for a piece of steak??

  • Clever, simple, solves multiple problems - sweet.

  • wow thats amazing. that wax inside the tube was such a clever but simple idea too. excellent 5/5*

  • we learned how to make one of these when i was in 5th grade. i ended up burning a hot dog like this.

  • thats cool

  • wow $5?! everyone should get one of these

  • That would be beneficial, at least during the summer.

Just think: fixing food in the Summer on one of these things! Save energy on gas and charcoal. It could possibly replace the grill. :)

  • amazing

  • great idea, especially with the low cost it is also practicable. just hope that the materials used in the reflecting area are not over polluting if they only last for 2 years ... it's easy to do the math ...

a few million stoves discarded every 2 years is a lot of waste buildup.

  • I wonder could it be recycled, though?

  • Yes, that is mostly galvinized steel.

If they were stainless steel, they could last for many decades, become family heirlooms.

They would cost ten times as much, but be worth it.

Perhaps this is a pilot project, and the better ones will go to who takes good care of these.

  • metal is recyclable and further more i am sure those African people wud be smart enuf to use a piece of wood at the back of the reflector to make it stronger

  • we need to work on the rest of the more wealthy countries waste buildup. that is so much more its almost unfathomable in consideration to what this would be.

  • brilliant!

  • solar energy is FREE - as long as there's sunshine. People should be hang drying their cloths in the yards and put those free energy to use. Cloth dryer is a huge energy waster, a very very big environmental killer.

  • Going back to the Clothes line?!

    ...

That could work. We have all these other things coming back from the 80's, 70's and so on, why not bring this back?

  • I love Anzo Borrego..

  • this is cool but why does the stove only last 2 years? there should be a way to make a long term solar stove

  • It only lasts two years because the materials are cheep.

  • I hope that these stoves get used all over the place. They are great for the environment.

  • middle east countries should be the first to have these, as we have too much sun here.

  • that is so amazing

  • Very cool.

  • I have always dreamt of utilizing sun power for drying our laundry in a global scale... Quite cool to see this solar cooking in action! How long does it take though?

  • like a on a clothes line?

  • BLACK PEOPLE!!!

  • Something wrong with that?

  • no not really its just funny to me

...is there anything wrong with that?

  • I would love to try it but they would charge a whole lot more than $5 dollars that's for sure.I've never seen them for sale.

I'd also love to support this effort.

  • fantastic and incredible... something that cost $5 can last 2 years and save all those lives... we need more thinking like this.

  • my cousin took part in this a couple years ago by going to rwanda and handing out these cookers

  • smart!

  • it's great to see simple things like this which can really make a difference to peoples lives - the added benefit of water purification makes this essential!

  • No thanks, the last time I cooked using the Sun it was eggs on the sidewalk and I had to spend a whole month in the hospital.

  • WHY????

  • They no doubt pulled the plug on life support while you were in there once they realized you were frikken BRAIN DEAD, dude. You have to wrok on your COMMENTS delivery, especially it you're going to TRY comedy. Would've been better, say, to go like,

"No, thanks. Last time I cooked using the sun was eggs on a sidewalk...spent a month in the frikken hospital. [**t' dumpt-dumpt**]"

See the difference in cadence? In timing? Do you have the foggiest clue of wtf I'm talkin' 'bout, brah?

  • who are you to judge someone else's humor level.

wow. this world is going insane

  • i dont get it, this kind of cook'n has been around for millennia. its highly efficient, but i dont see why they're using such short lived stoves the should be shown how to make solar ovens like the indians in the american southwest used

  • "has been link to the death of more than 2 million woman and children..EVERY YEAR"

    damm thats sad

  • Sounds extremely ineffecient to me, considering they're using petroleum based products that only last for 2 years. Had they been using something that actually lasted for a lifetime, this would be a good thing, but it seems to me to be at best a poorly conceived stopgap measure.

  • MAtbe, jut maybe, if you lived in one of those countries, you would see things differently. Just because you are (most likely) a obese english kid/american kid/austrialian kid, dosent mean you can deduct the possible meaning of this stove to those african people.

  • Actually, I'm 56, and I have to stay in shape because I have 5 crushed discs in my back. I've been volunteering in 3rd World countries since I was a teenager, first with Flying Samaritans in remote Northern Mexico, and alter elsewhere. I've lived and gone hungry in such places.

Not sure how you turned my comment into meaning I don't want African people to have any advantages, but I've actually walked the talk working in such places to support such developments. What about you?

  • Northern mexico??? what u do there???

  • Besides eat some great food? Flying Samaritans is a bunch of volunteer pilots, doctors, nurses, dentist, and support staff, running a couple of dozen monthly clincs in Baja and Sonora. Main stuff I did was preventative work, and actually most of the time I was at clinics in the middle of Baja peninsula. Litle shack-like set-ups sometimes but we're talking in the middle of the boondocks.

  • oow ok well nice of you helping that people XD

  • you should try something like that--lots of interesting places and people in the world where support is needed. You meet the coolest people along the way. And real friends for life. Real friends. Y'know?

  • just checked your channel...de donde esta? En Mexico?

  • i live in california

  • Flying Samaritans works mostly out of California.

  • i work in the summer of 2008 in shout mexico with a not gov asociation helping to make houses for people without economical resources. the name of the asociation. i from japan and i am learning english and spanish. i working now with abuse children victims in california so maybe this next summer i go back donw to mexico. i m not sure because i have offert to go work in sex slavery in thailand and vietnam. so is of you helping others.

  • Ah, Cool. Thanks for telling me about that. You're doing some very interesting work. Good of you to do that. It sounds like you are traveling as you work for awhile.

  • so is nice of you helping others *

  • *sigh*

  • I am just saying, in plain and simple terms, that your comment had a negative connotation. It seemed to be implying that these weren't a good idea, and that poor countries should be without them. Yes, they may only last a little while, but how many lives could they save during that time? Many. That's for sure. And because i have not been fortunate enough to volunteer in foreign countries, i may only use assumptions. Possibly if you read over what you said, you might see it in new light.

  • omg this is so awesome!~ all the best to sci and hope things will turn out great!

  • Do they only give these things to people in Third World countries who speak English? :S

Or did they train them to speak a line or two of English just for the cameras?

Either way, it's as annoying as mercenaries going over there to make them switch religions. Let them speak their language and just use subtitles, for goodness' sake!

  • first

  • This is great!!

  • wow thats great :)

  • now i see why so many cultures considered the sun as a god in the pass... it gives life!

  • wow this is amazing!

  • Hey, my friend has one of those! We've been cooking smores every summer with it for the past 5 years. xD

  • awesome!

  • That's awesome!

  • That is the perfect thing for sunny impoverished places like Africa.

  • @6663000

Not all of Africa is impoverished.

Africa is not a country, it's a continent.
