I think to use those lyrics during the cold war with the ghost of McCarthyism not far away was no accident. and quite brave considering what had happened over Lennon's Jesus comment in '66. All wars start by villfying the "enemy". This song tried to stop that process by suggesting the Soviets were just like people in the West....and took a side-swipe at the Beachboys.......pure class!!

The change of lyrics isn't offensive, it just rather misses the point of the song in the first place, which was to poke gentle fun at the self-promoting nature of the USA (c.f.: California Girls, Surfin' USA, et al).
On the other hand, that's some nice guitaring there!

I know the Beatles and the Stones kept an eye on what each other were doing, but I thought that Wilson was more of an inspiration to McCartney; I know he loves Pet Sounds and thinks God Only Knows is the most beautiful melody line ever written. I've always had this song down as a pastiche of the Beach Boys, meant to be a sort of funny compliment.
Anyway, now I know the lyric change is an in-joke with a specific viewer in mind, that makes a lot more sense!

Thanks for your comment on my video. The mic I am using is a Samson CO1 Condensor Mic...it's not a very expensive one but it has a really good frequency range and it uses an XLR cable which is nicer than a noisy 1/4" jack. The only drawback is that it does not connect to my computer...I use it with my Korg D3200 work station. The Samson model CO1U will connect to your computer via USB if you think you might be interested. Can't say how it will sound though.
