I wish I could see Yiruma live! I'll keep checking but it doesn't look like he has ever been anywhere near where I live in the states. Those that I have seen him I am sure were blessed beyond measure.
I really love the first song... It seems to speak of dark, light, and what's in between, that there is a purpose to everything, and finding the truth in the colors is the fulfilling part of life. <3 :]
I live in Mexico, and didnt know about this wonderful pianist composer Yiruma, until today that i came across him by chance in YouTube. I am so happy to hear ur music, so marvelous. You are amazing Yiruma, so young, so handsome and so talented, ur music is like a blessing from the sky, with ur deep feelings coming through the black and white piano keys. Thank u.
@Ricex17 : I completely agree with you. Not many people appreciate music like this, it's sad, really... Yiruma's music, and many other's music that share the same qualities, is so incredibly beautiful. It is so full of emotion, it is incredible = )
nobody should make fun of music we be in touch with them everyday. we walk in the streets we hear cars we hear birds and who are we to judge Gods creation? music is art. music is life. music is our nature. lets not harm music with discrimnating words and let it be....
y? You don't think you can or do you just think my comment is just funny and plain stupid, huh? JK~ hehe, right now I just wrote a letter(very long) to someone on comp, got deleted and I cant bring it back! Im so sad/angry!!!
I'd not fight over intellectual and musical content in music. At the end of the day, music is art. Nobody can say you're right or you're wrong. Sure, some colours and some sounds match with others, and some do not, but you still can't say it's wrong. The artist still has the benefit of his freedom of expression.
Hence, i'd politely step back and just say that I do not appreciate certain types of music. (for me now, it'd be music from Beethoven/Mozart's time, though I used to like them.)
At the hazard of becoming unpopular, I have been reading through the argument taking place here and I agree with elevenwhy and davidrochman.
Yiruma's music is designed to neither break boundaries nor express creativity, but merely boasts an obvious adherence to musical rules that have been already set, as far back as Chopin himself.
When I was younger I found his music appealing and ear-friendly, however, I've grown out of it and my musical tastes have gone back in time.
As much as everyone is entitled to an opinion, elevenwhy is telling the truth. Yiruma is pop music, and he doesn't write the most 'interlectually musical' material. If you compare him to any great composer, his stuff is simple, and not simple in the way that philip glass writes minimalism, as that is musically outstanding. As much as Yiruma sounds nice, it's because he uses obvious cadences, with obvious melodic patterns. It is, no matter what you say, boring pop.
Any person who has studied music properly, and I HAVE NOT, knows that this is not creative music.
Yiruma's music is simple pop music with broken chord left hands. Though I would accept that Indigo is the one Yiruma song (and I know them all well) that poses some interesting structure and even entertains the minor key.
I HAVE studied music properly, and creativity has nothing to do with using complex music theory. Creativity, and art of any form, is about the ability to express emotions and ideas in a way that your audience can relate to. A complicated sonata may be able to wow the trained pianist with its difficulty, and show off the composer and player's ability. But a simple, sweet piece like something of Yiruma's speaks to the heart regardless of your level of training. THAT is true creativity.
Ok thanks for the movie-script rant on liberal creativity.
Are you arguing that his pieces aren't simple and fairly transparent?
That said, I like Yiruma on the grounds that he has SO much more talent that the other multi-millionaires in ''music''.
I may seem arrogant to criticise Yiruma and I concede I will never be able to compose a single piece like his, and hear me out here: If I don't like Yiruma, I may aswell fucking commit suicide over 50 Cent.
And if you really want me to I will go through your comment. First of all. Emotion-based? Is music not the expression of emotion via sound, that's thoroughly irrelevant. Secondly, seriously, ask anyone who knows their music, Yiruma uses simple left hand broken chord structures that most established musicians would be capable of imitating.
Would you like to compose a piece for us? I'd be more than happy to compare it to his, since you sound fairly confident about the simplicity of his music.
First of all, please don't attempt to massage your intellectual ego by pretentiously abusing the English language. You were the object in the second last sentence and therefore take me over I.
Elevenwhy, I couldn't help but notice your attempts at criticizing aaronsaur. Are not everyone entitled to their own opinions and insight into various pieces of music. Music has never been black and white, and your direct denunciations of aaronsaur as "hollow" portray yourself as not only an arrogant person but also an ignorant one.
Yiruma obviously has great composure. Did anyone see how big of an audience he had? That takes guts to perform in front of all those people, and in horrible lighting.

nah, he's good and i'm sure of it... for any good composer to become a good composer at music they play, i know that they already have mastered playing classical or other hard songs to play already, then they just compose songs they like, no matter if it's easy or not. that doesn't mean they don't have piano skills.
the thing is, yiruma plays with so much emotion and movement.
