  • Love the fact that this was in my home town ^_^!

  • I'm sure she'd think I was silly to say this, but,I worship her.

  • If I happened to hear Aimee by accident sing like this in a small setting unexpectedly, someone would need to remind me to breath after she was finished, Aimee's singing can be breathtakingly beautiful sometimes.

  • One of the best songwriters of all time!

  • Voice as smooth as a baby's bottom after being rubbed with butter... :)

  • @Hammerhead786 you must be crazy. I have never seen a woman become so much more beautiful as time has gone on!

  • Aimee, if your influenced by Elton John, you've done him one better!

  • For the record, it's not a compliment when you take the time to insult someone else by contrast.

"Wow, I love Singer A so much. Because by comparison, Singer 1 SUCKS ASS!"

And that pretty much goes for everything, "I like hanging with guys because women suck." And "I like dating you, because my last g'f sucked." And "I pick John for the team because that other guys sucks."

Just sayin'. Being judgmental of others in a compliment isn't a compliment.

  • @VideoMenu you are one of a few who even realize this type of dualism in other's insecurity, that of insult/compliment. Most are too ignorant to see it for what it is,weakness, meekness, insecure, unorigional, parrots mimicking the hive mind. Well done. Solace comes by knowing I'm not alone in the world.Peace

  • Amazing song and amazing woman. Aimee has that natural and rare Joni Mitchell quality.

  • Wow the years have really Raped her face...

  • God, she is beautiful. Come back to London. Now! Hurry.

  • great stuff ... In love with Aimee of course ...

  • I want to see her in concert stat!!

  • Time has been a friend to her. Still beautiful, still wonderful after all these years. All the best Aimee.

  • the thinking man's singer.

  • Nice tune, vid is ok. She kinda looks like Joni Mitchell now, lol.

  • Yes. Yes. A singer who is not screaming every word. Soft, smooth. Wonderful. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the screaming singers, but why can't we get an artist like this winning american idol?

  • This has such a 'Twin Peaks' feel...

  • I think I know someone who won the curly fries" haha I wonder if this was from past experience prior to Til Tuesday or somewhere in between after her Rush cameo

  • Rush is going on Tour now be cool if she cameo for Time stand still

  • Her lyrics come from a deep place. A true songwriter who knows about life.

Up in the ranks of Laura Nyro.

This is a beautifully arranged video.

  • In 1984, who'd have thought the blondie from Til Tuesday would be this good and only getting better? A true class act here.

  • @cjp371 Is this the chick from "Voices Carry", I love that vid, I have saved on my computer.

  • Love this video and the song is incredible.

  • I LOVE the line "Now he's numbering himself among the masterminds". I don't know how or why or who "he" is, but this song gets me. I love the nasal quality to her voice in this song in particular.

Any attempts at demystifying the meaning of this song, which I'm sure is very personal (as many A. Mann songs are), would be much appreciated.

P.S. Why does everyone talk about Lady Gaga? How has this bee-otch hurt you, huh? It seems like half of YouTube is a forum for insult of other artists.

  • @MyAngelMamaMine It's about her time spent on Geffen (I didn't make the connection at first either but then when you see it in that context the lines take on a different meaning), this was on her first independent release as a solo artist. They tried to sexualise her image etc. She mentioned it as the meaning of the song in interviews and I believe also the press release for the album.

  • Aimee Mann is a REAL Artist !!!!!!!!!!!!! lady Gag-Whore can kiss my royal fricken Californian azz... and i have NO RESPECT FOR Barbara Walters[or whoever that lady is] who interviewed her, because those types are not real artists...real Artists suffer and yet keep themselves going and are more content than all the mannequin musicians

Aimee has class .. all the others are cookie-cutter same agains who cannot convince me musically, but Aimee Mann does

    how's that for honesty?

    :~]

    :~

  • One of her more interesting videos. thanks for putting it up

  • i won the curly fries, omg yay

  • 0:58 Matt Selman! ;)

  • Bachelor No. 2 album is best all-round concept album since Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Phenomenal tunes, genius lyricist, great backup band--all recorded, I think, in her living room.

  • love her....loved her when i was growing up when she was in Til Tuesday.

  • I like the song and I like her music but every time I watch this video I'm a little annoyed that she think she's some kind of mortal lock to win the curly fries. She doesn't know who's up next, it just seems a bit arrogant is all.

  • I discover her 5 months ago and I feel like she has always been in my life

  • This song is sublime in its layers, in its composition, in its execution. One of my all time favorites from this amazing woman. Listen to this on headphones if you dare. It's on Bachelor #2. You won't be able to listen to it only once.

  • What a fantastic song!

  • I've always loved Aimee and thought she one the most under-rated singers/songwriters out there.

    But DAMN.......... this is incredible!!!!

And Lady Gaga is all the rage now. Where is the justice in the universe???

  • pure silk

  • There are 11 idiots who did not like this video? Fantastic album! Fantastic song, and fantastic singer!

  • loved her when i was a teen ..voices carry ... still love her music ...lol still hot lol mmmmm......curly fries

  • well she rocks, just like she always has.......love aimee, and neato vid

  • I think we know who won the curly fries!!

  • I love this song, I never tired of heard it. And i love Aimee Mann she's so authentic and have this beautiful and sweet voice, sh'es great¡

  • sounds a bit like Pink Floyd...

  • japanese restaurants have curly fries?

  • Why don't gorgeous blondes ever age well?

  • @Scrap5000 You are suggesting Aimee isn't aging well? She looks gorgeous to me.

  • @jackstpaul not that she isn't aging well, but brunettes age better

  • @Scrap5000 She looks "fine" to me, let's judge her on her musical output anyway.

  • @MITCHWILD Is this no longer a free country now that nazi Obama is in office? You can judge her on anything you want, be it her singing or her manicure or her hairstyle for all I care...I will judge her on what I want to judge her on. God Bless America!

  • @Scrap5000 wtf did i say to get you so wound up? Rule Britannia!

  • @MITCHWILD LOL, I didn't even know you were British...

  • @Scrap5000 Yep......sorry about that, it's not my fault, i was born here, wish i could leave this mad country.

  • @MITCHWILD Ah man, I hear ya, but where would you go? The whole damn world has gone insane. The Greatest Generation must be so disappointed in us...

  • Comment removed

  • @MITCHWILD Well, 15 years above me would still need about another 25 - 40 years to get there, but I know what you mean. We are a descending society, no doubt! It's like a Reverse Renaissance...very sad!

  • @Scrap5000

And I can judge your comment as totally inappropriate -- the previous monkey in the white house really put a damper on free speech too

  • @DonPville Never said I was a fan of Bush's, either...the whole damn repubs and democrats all suck! Join the Tea Party!!

  • I wonder if Aimee was a Kirsty MacColl fan. I just hear the "Wealthy Tarts" in this one a bit...

  • wow. where the hell has this song been hiding

  • Excellent song.

  • You can really hear the sound of Doll Congress in her music. I really love the whole sound of that group of musicians from the L.A. area, Michael Penn and everyone. They really do all work well together.

  • Awesome song, so there's no need for the wrapper, no matter how cute and smart (Karaoke bar, Til Tuesday reference, etc.).

Also, as some have mentioned, curly fries at a Japanese restaurant? I get the point - its part of the overly cute/smart wrapper, but it feels like different people wrote the front and back ends.

  • WTF is a wrapper?

  • So thank you so much for releasing this video.

This is one of the songs that got me into this artist.

  • Very good Aimee i like everything about this video. puts me in the club where i want to be.

    idle edsel

  • I am a Amiee fan for many reasons. Number one would have to be her song lyrics. For example, The Forgotten Arm cd deals with addiction. Being a former addict I can relate to many of her songs. I know this sounds weird but, her songs have helped me deal with my problem. A truly gifited singer/songwriter. Not many of those around today. I wish her continued success.

  • @aimeemannfan2010 - She truly is an outstanding talent. And you are right, not many of her likes around today, sadly.

  • another one of my favorites aimee. i always feel your tunes not just hear them . alive with passion thanks

  • Where the hell have I been I never knew she went beyond Til Tuesday. SHes great and I need to grab her CD, sorry Aimee...lol

  • want one of her best solo albums? try her freshman album.. Whatever... Awesome album!!

  • dmgcat: I have just been getting into her solo stuff in the last two months. It's just awesome...This is from "Bachelor #2." And two other awesome albums are "@#$! Smilers" and "The Forgotten Arm."

  • She looked better with the punk style hair, but still a great singer!

  • pretty awesome song........Poe s music is kinda similar to Aimees...........nice

  • I loved this song since the first time that i've heard it

  • What I love about Aimee Mann is that she is an originator. And what she does, she does it well. I am guessing that many people are unaware of her song with Rush. She sings "Time...stands still". Aimee's timing was also perfect in that MTV was HUUUUUUUGE during her break-out era, whihc no-doubt played a huge role in catapulting her career. But again, "Voices Carry" deserved the spotlight because it IS a special and unique song!

  • I don't think you have to appreciate her wit to

    appreciate her talent.

  • Great Song,,,,Great Video,,,,,Great Beautiful Talent is Aimee Mann.!!!,,,,,,Hottie.!!!

  • Folks, ya gotta get her weird sense of humor to appreciate the vid.

  • Great Song,,,Great Video,,,,555 Stars.

  • love this song not the video

  • Great song, beautiful women, terrible video!

  • She looks alot like a young Joni Mitchell here.

  • hmmm. i agree. what an interesting observation

  • Aimee is such a unique and wonderful talent- it's too bad that often the music videos that accompany her songs are weak, this one is no exception- she needs a director with some inspiration.

  • I like the comparison to Suzanne, they both have a way with imagery.

  • Comment removed

  • She sounds like Suzanne Vega meets Paul McCartney and Rou Leed. That is to say she will be a legendary singersongwriter of her generation.

  • Heheh, her generation is not very far removed from theirs.... she's 50.

  • She's a Mann, baby!

    ~

  • FoxIslandman - Yes, there is a small comparison between Aimee and Joni... except Joni never was able to capture any serious song brilliance after her first album. Aimee has been nailing it album after album, song after song.

Nothing against Joni, she just can't hold a candle to Aimee's incredible understanding of how to put emotions into notes and words of a song.

  • Yep, Aimee just keeps getting better with each effort.

I guess we know who wins the curly fries....

  • I loved her in Til Tuesday with Voices carry This just makes me Love her music more.

  • This woman has mad skills. Far more talented than the average bimbos who are the darlings of music critics nowadays. But it doesn't matter - Amy is on a completely different level. ;)

  • @transewookie

    Yep, a wonderful talent.

  • You didn't have to buy the dvd, this video is posted right here.

  • thanks for posting this!

  • first time I hear she singing, great voice and music......regards from the ass of the world (argentina)

  • Loved the Nixon clip.

  • The more I listen to Aimee Mann, the more I realize how great she is.

  • @charlotteguy7, I'm just realizing this as well. ;)

  • @charlotteguy7 I miss her punker hairdo from the early '80's.

  • @charlotteguy7

    You are so right

  • she's the one, absolutely

  • She has a excellent voice - she is not all in your face and shit like those hopping flubbers you see in the inner streets...

  • this woman is excellent.....so why do I keep throwing out all her CDs?

  • Her songs sound really smart and timeless without any snobbism and excessive romanticism.

  • As a producer and songwriter, I would say that Aimee Mann is the most consistent "raw" emotional songwriter in the business. Her songs, either with Til Tuesday or solo, are almost mindboggling in their ability to dig down into the depth of desiring despair and enjoying it. No other female artist can come close. Morissette somehow got the jump out of the gate on Aimee, and I think this is an agent/manager issue, because Aimee Mann/Til Tuesday probably has about 20 songs that could/should be hits.

  • Hey! I've been in that bar. It's down the street from my house. Amagi's, at Sunset and Gower!

  • Yes but have you sung Karaoke in the bar down the street from your house? We have all lived "next to the place where....."

  • Yeah! I live near there too! I'm the guy who sings Rhinestone Cowboy ala Latka from taxi.

  • Her songs seem to have a psychotic, schizophrenia, lunitic mind set to them. I love it. Voices do carry.

  • Actually Voices Carry was a hit for 'Til Tuesday, not Aimee the solo artist. And IMO, it is not even that great a song. It's ok, but pretty generic 80's. Her solo stuff is way more evolved, she's crafting music that's way more sophisticated than anything that she did with TT.

  • Hi dadslbm,

I agree that her solo stuff is really good, but so is Til Tuesday's second album. Brilliant stuff, and on par with everything she's done on her own.

  • Thx, I'll give it a listen.

  • thanX aimee.....!!

  • Oh Dana Gould, you rascal!

She's friends with so many stand-up comics! It's great!

  • I like this, reminds me of something Scott Weiland would do.

  • I thought it said "where get-off girls turn in to gold mines."

  • Life is like a crap shoot for some people, like the people Aimee is singing about in this song.

  • it's actually 'get tough' girls, and based on the time of the release, I'd say she's referring to the alterna-punk females of the time - Pink, Avril Lavigne, etc. This is ultimately her departure from Geffen Records because David Geffen didn't like her music - 'so I'll do tricks and get paid in chips from a diamond as big as the Ritz, then I'm calling it quits...'

Sorry - I'm an Aimee Mann freak!

  • ...just play Voices Carry

  • You've got to love Aimee's dry sense of humor in a lot of her videos. She is a great talent and, very under rated.

  • gotta love the vibraphone and jazzyguitarsolo....

  • She looks like Cheryl Ladd from Charlie's Angels...

  • This is just amazing to me.

  • nice... thanks for posting this mannfan... i was in an aimee mood.. just saw her 3rd annual x-mas show last night here in san diego.. awsome show.. I hadn't seen this vid.. so.. thx again!

  • Gosh... Aimee has such a pretty voice, she is just amazing.

  • did she have like a dozen cosmetic surgeries?

    p.s. the song's nice

  • No but she had a real pro apply eye makeup for this video

  • She's prettier now then when she was with "Til Tuesday!!!

  • I think we know who won the curly fries!

  • Great song!

  • love that intro about the dream having a lead!

  • Absolutly great, thanks for the upload

  • Story of the stock market....calling it quits.

  • Aimee's voice is wonderful, really makes you take notice in her qualities.

  • True talent. Love her new one "Forgotten Arm". A true natural - there aren't many these days.

  • Wonderful !!!

  • what a song writer gets to the point every time

  • doncha love the trumpet punch?

  • Yes...I like a little brass too.

  • How's come she's "it" even when the wind dosen't blow in her hair and petals don't precede her every verse! I really enjoy the transition between points of view!

  • Looking and sounding great Aimee.

  • Quite frankly I enjoyed that.

  • im callin it quits too

  • I think Aimee Mann makes wonderful music. Thanks Aimee!!

  • Another outstanding job. Congratulations Aimee Mann especially on your new album release, and thank you for your fine entertaining upbeat music.

    McMikie

  • haha - the karaoke girls are singing 'Til Tuesday!!!! Aimee Mann's old old group....that's hilarious!

  • She also got some features of a topmodel too.

  • This is so good it hurts. My GAWD, could this woman be any better.....absolutely incredible talent. She keeps redefining herself with her music, and the whole idea of it, she just amazes me over and over. (How's THAT for Aimee praise? Pretty good, eh? I just adore this lady!!)

  • At first I didn't really like the song, but the lyrics are interesting if you listen, and the melody is good.

  • Awesome! I have never seen this video before, it's so funny how in the beginning the two girls are singing Voices Carrie. What a great song and video, Aimee Mann is the best:)

  • Okay folks, why would you write a comment to Aimee Mann (a) without using English and (b) spelling it wrong in Japanese and (c) on YouTube... come on, don't hurt the team.

  • What does the comment say?

  • aimeeさんおりがとございました。

  • I love the rock-star hair moment. And the fact that she can make fun of herself. She's just an amazing lady.

  • i love aimee mann her music is so soothing and her stories are just.... yea!

  • Didn't we have fun at karaoke?!

with monopoly money we'll be buying the funny farm

  • quite simply one of the best songwriters of her generation

  • Hert, soul, talent, art...Aimee is amazing!

Thank you very much mannfan for sharing it with us.

  • go aimmee!

  • i love this song

  • every time i hear her voice it feels like coming home. can't describe it better...

  • wow she rocks!!! i like her since i heard this song for 1st time shes amazing..

  • My gosh! What a beautiful video! Without mention that this is one of the most beautifully writen songs ever. I just loved it. Aimee's got those real moments of genius.

  • Best still peforming vocalist. Bachelor No 2 best rock album since Beatles Sgt Pepper.

    She's pure genius.

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for this vid on youtube for a long time.

  • Madonna? That is example of "talent free!" Just "icky!"

  • Um, why are curly fries being served at a Japanese restaurant?

  • The curly fries are served with wasabi.

  • japanese culture is obssessed with all things american, so a lot of the time karaoke bars and stuff served japanese versions of american food curly fries with wasabi kobe beef hamburgers things like that

  • i love Aimee Mann lyrics ...everyone lady singer else is lame in comparison.. in my humble opinion... i love how the cultural Asian karaoke reference-thing... kinda of funny... i should quit writing now.... Bravo A.M.

  • I like A.M. too, but how about Pink Martini, Tori Amos, Erin Boheme, Erin Bode, Madeline Peyroux, Norah Jones, Joyce Cooling, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Des'ree and about a hundred others? A blanket statement with horrendous grammar is still a broad generalization. Do some research jpl. I'm not trying to be mean, but damn man.
