and in making a martini, you don't add the vermouth into a metal mixer. It picks up a tinny flavor. The best martinis are made in a glass container and stirred. Also, not to gross you out, the original recipe called for half gin and half vermouth. Ugh.

LOVE the vintage cocktail book! From Esquire no less! Martha's carrot soup in the last segment looked fantastic as well. i was skeptical about the addition of garlic to her soup because I wondered if it would be overpowering, but overall it looked exceptional!

She's given some really good recipes out on her radio show over the years. She says she loves to play bartender. I've tried a few of them out and a few have made it to my regular list of drinks I make.
