The MomoCon 2007 Shut Down Announcement

Damn, I would've been PISSED had I been at that convention. Ok, no, I'm still annoyed; not only did the staff have to work hard to put that con together for the fans, but now those who were innocent had no con because some people were just stupid. I mean, who brings fireworks to a convention? O.e Bakas

Okies heres where im at. If these individuals did set off fireworks inside the con, they will end up in trouble with the law. Anyone who gets hurt by the fireworks those individuals who started it could face a crime. Also setting off fireworks in a con is a fire hazard. The con faced shut down early and if nothing was sold that day its a problem, its what its called Murphy's Law "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" I just hope Momo Con doesnt have to go through anymore shut downs.

Damn, that sucks. Though, I can't imagine someone being dumb enough to stick around after causing such trouble, not to mention I myself had heard they'd gotten the people, or at least some, responsible before giving us this announcment. But who knows. Anything's possible.

Gah, who knows, but it was a real bitch. I felt so bad seeing people JUST come to the convention, some in amazing cosplay, and everyone having to tell them what had just happened, and we all had leave. D:

Yeah, I know. Well, I was there at that convention, but not for very long though. But as soon as I found out about the incident from a few friends...I was irrate! No fans of anime...nobody in general should go through that!

The staff had to listen to the Police and take their advice/orders. It's not like they had a choice in the matter. Kids were trying to bring fireworks inside the building to set off. Think about standing in the dealers room at MomoCon and something akin to a gun sounding off.

We were well aware of the fireworks, because they let us know, and several con-goers themselves heard the sounds, including a friend of mine. Though we were disappointed the day had to end early, we were understanding. It was a situation the staff really couldn't help. Really, people were only upset at whoever the numbskulls with fireworks were. No one blamed the staff.

I just know of some people that were upset with the staff because they believed it shouldn't've been closed.

I remember standing on the stairs and listening to this. The people around me were furious at the dumb people but very understanding as well.

We all love the MomoCon staff. They're awesome.

Oh, no, no, but the situation has been explained so much that if there's anyone not left getting it, they probably never will, lol. If anyone was mad at the staff, they were being childish, because majority understood and respected the decision, happy with it or not. I myself was only upset at the fools who caused the chaos. As my friend and I walked to the front I jokingly called for all cosplayers with large weapons to find the morons and attack. XD

Well, since it's free they didn't have to worry about money, so I don't see the issue there. They shut down, as they said, just to be on the safe side. For our safety. While it was annoying, it was a smart idea.

Agreed. If no one spent money on getting in, they don't have to worry about refunds(or angry people DEMANDING refunds). It was free. Now if it was AWA we were talking about(or DragonCon for that matter), it'd be different.

Definitely. We could do nothing more than pout and obey instructions. It's a free event, what more could we do? However, yeah, if it was a paid con, there would have been a major upset. You want what you paid for.

Exactly, I'd hate to had paid for a con(which can get expensive when you're paying for numerous people and days), and then have to leave after I spent money on it.

When the Campus Police call the City Police, it's a definite that it's going to be closed.

Man, I was so pissed when Momocon closed because some dumasses filled the entire Center with firecrakers!!!!! I can't believe they think it's funny when it comes to endangering people.

I was thinking the same thing! Like form an angry mob to make sure there arn't any troublemakers. From Naruto to Bleach cosplayers, we'll chase down those assholes like a freakin ARMY! Let's do that next time. lol

Lol, that would be an amusing sight, to see a bunch of cosplayers and otaku chase down some jerks, lol. And if something like that DOES happen, again, we SHOULD. I mean, what they did ended up killing the original fun atmosphere of MomoCon, because now the staff has to go to these measures to ensure it won't happen, again. I don't blame MomoCon. I blame the idiots who caused this to happen.

Yeah, I try to attend MomoCon every year. I was suppose to meet up with people on the first day, but my friend's mom changed her mind last minute (literally) and we had to go the 2nd day. I won't be at DragonCon... unless by some off chance my anime club dragged us to it, but our club is on hiatus (the leader and one of my friends are getting married, so, we've ceased group activity for awhile, lol). But I'm up for meeting next year. :)

I couldn't go on Saturday either, especially after what happened Friday. :( There was a huge hail storm storming my house! You can always go to DragonCon yourself(not that I'm saying you should ignore your friends). I go to MomoCon, DragonCon, and AWA. Agreed. Death Note has the best minor characters, too, lol. Definitely more original; I have yet to see a Near at MomoCon. I was amazed last year that I even spotted a Mello and Matt duo.

You WILL have to register and wear a badge this year, but the event is still FREE. 16 and older need to show valid ID (driver's license, military ID, etc.) while under age of 16 MUST have an adult to register them off.

Aww, that sucks. We saw some people show up just as it was shut down; we felt bad for them, esp. these amazing cosplayers who were all decked out. I hope nothing causes it to get shut down this year, either. If so... I hope every con-goer attacks the jerk(s) who caused it to happen! XD
