Gent is a super nice city. Walking, riding a bicycle, rowing.. eating, photography. But yes, watch your bicycle it is a local sport or rather national sport to steal bikes and sometimes dump them in the canals... there is not a nicer city than Gent, locals are great and some not locals are learning... Enjoy Gent!

I lived in Gent during 4 months..... I adored it since the first day I arrived there. Gent is so magic! Just I have to addapt myself to the low temperature of winter because I am from Lima Peru, where the lowest temperature is 14ºC.

I miss Gent and I really would love to return someday.

I studied there for 1 year and it's by far my favorite city in Belgium, I just love the people there, I have so many good memories of people studying/playing guitar/drinking/smoking at the river during the summertime.

Insane party's too.

I was on erasmus in Ghent and it was the worse thing i ever did. The belgien peolpe are the most distance people i have ever met at the start i thought it was ok but by the end i couldn't wait to leave and the Uni doesnt give a shit about anyone your just a number. If you want to go to Ghent on erasmus and all you want to do it hang around with erasmus students well then you might like it but if you want something more dont go there, try Sweden or Germany the people are a lot more open and kind

Well i met a hell of a lot of people and only met one nice fella from Belgium and they all know there not friendly on the first day in Ghent we were told by the lecturers that the people here are not friendly you will just have to get used to it. I didn't know any Erasmus students who had a good time. The crime rates are mental as well don't buy a bike there it will be stolen

when they say that the people there aren't friendly, I think you have already a wrong image of the people there

and crime rates are not that high, yea in whole my life, I had 1 bike that was stolen

and I live in Gent already my whole life, I have great friends here who are friendly and funny.. but like in each other country/city/.. there are always people who aren't..

@ttttine I was in Uni in Ghent. I studied a semster in Germany and the difference was amazing. Ghent was just a terrible time maybe I got really unlucky and maybe the summer semester would have been better but yea it could have been a bad year because all my friends could not wait to leave. It was unlucky but hey that's life
