Actually, VBAC is not only possible, it's viable! Just because your doctor says you need to have a c-section doesn't mean you have to. Also, he quoted "all the safety of the hospital". Acutally, it's safer to birth outside of the hospital if you are not high risk. And just so you know jbean0, doctors perform unnecessary c-sections all the time. It's all about money, and hospitals push them to do it. Childbirth is big business in America. We need education. Real education, not lies!
How about really educating yourself? This information is the closest to crap I have seen in a long time. Poor woman having her third c-section thinking this is best for her and baby. Ouch! Having a 10 pounds baby is not a reason to have a C-section by the way even if your OB says so.
That's funny they called the hospital the "traditional way". I guess I would call it the "mainstream" way - not traditional. How long have hospital births been the norm?
Get educated. "traditional way" oh you mean strapped to a bed, and having your movement restricted.
Pain is directly related to movement and management.
C-Section : is not simple procedure. it is MAJOR abdominal surgery with up to 6 months of recovery time.
Birth is ABOUT YOUR time. its not selfish to want to have the most important life changing event to be in YOUR best interest. OB today is fueled by fear. read PUSHED by Jennifer Block.
Just so you know: Doctors will not preform a c-section unless it is completely needed. if you think of it, labor might last for several hours...but with a c-section your stomach is cut open...now that takes quite a while to heal so you are going to be in pain for far longer than if you just gave natural birth.
I have had one vaginal delivery with an epidural and it wasn't that bad. I couldn't take it anymore after I reach 6.5 cm. My recovery time wasn't too bad, about a week, because I tore really bad. My mother and some of my friends have had c-sections and their recovery time was about a month. A c-section is a surgery, not just a procedure. I'd say a c-section is more painful because of the recovery, chance of infection, etc. I mean, you can't drive a car for a month after a c-section..crazy!
go with the flow, that's nonsence. Most hospitals require doctors to encourage an epidural. They make lots of money for the hospital and keep mothers confined to bed and eaiser to manage.
If anyone else restrained you and denied you food or water for upward of 6 hours it would be criminal. As someone who's worked in a New Live Center I know you must be very firm about you birth plan or else be walked all over.
its a water birth. some women give birth in a pool that way the baby transfers to water againg so they stay in water for a lil longer. the warm water also helpw ith contractions
i would love to have my baby at home in a pool, my mother in law had all 3 of her kids (including my husband) in the rainforest, and of course they had a midwife. i would feel a lot more relax at home...im still indesicive though
willowtreephoto must be a man from the uk. Even some professionals so stupid they don't know epidurals does NOT SLOW LABOUR and NOT MORE RISKY. Do a circumcision with no anasthetic! Ha.
actually, epidurals CAN slow down labour. It all depends on the individual. Epidurals make it so you don' t feel anything from the waist down. Some women have said that the epidural made it harder to decern contractions and harder to push because they could not feel anything therefore prolonging delivery; however, most women do not have problems with epidurals.
A 10 Lb baby can be born vaginally safely via VBAC. It is quite obvious that these women were not fully informed by their caregivers. sure the doctor tells us that not having an epidural doesn't give you a badge, but he failed to mention that choosing one can slow labor, make pushing more difficult, infection, fetal distress, higher chance of more interventions and c-section.

I don't want a c-section and if I can help it I won't have an epidural.

C-section should be last resource. And never give the option if they are healthy and there is no risk involve. And VBAC is not a risk.

Some women choose to go the c-section route even if there is no reason to have one. It should be up to the mother to decide what she wants.
