  • I want to major in philosophy.

  • I'd say philosophy is a critical method, based on logic, for evaluating statements about ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, and so on.

  • Please understand that I'm not trying to

Influence you, but as I am asking for your influence

  • So I just want to make sure that my understanding of philosophy is correct. If you see anything missing or wrong with it, please, for my knowledges sake, reply saying what is wrong and give me your understanding.

Philosophy is basically the thought process of making a a thesis to clarify how the universe works on multiple levels: such as as a whole, as an individual, as multiple groups and the anticipation of what reactions will come from these forces.

Please understand that this was not to i

  • -Philosophy is philosophy, when taught, it becomes education and education is organized knowledge, knowledge is the made up ideals that we all agree to. A philosopher's perspective is based on the knowledge they had gained, so in the end, there is not much philosophy in fit.

-Paradox as it may seem, it is very simple to break this chain

  • @Jake4595

This is not a paradox. Your definition of knowledge is contrived and absurd; therefore, it cannot be an accepted premis.

Knowledge is not dependent on the will of the masses ('made up ideals that we all agree to').

  • @JimLongo1 Actually..it is, your response was based on what I have said and there you made your stand on your point of view, which was based on my comment and my thoughts(even if it was false or inaccurate). Now, if I were to make a response to counter what you said with my own philosophy, it will still be based on your perspective which points back to my original comment, and every time we discuss something it is always based on one's perspective in the end. So therefore this is a paradox.

  • It may also be referred in my opinion to the way people would like to see the world and always questioning the way everything works...

  • All I know is that I know nothing

  • @Afroj4ck

If you say "I know nothing', and you also say that you know that, well then, how does one who knows nothing possibly know that they know nothing? Just kidding.

I thought the speaker's overview wasn't too bad.

  • Philosophy is just what was there before science: Questions without answers, reasoning without evidence... In my experience talking with philosophy graduates, they're happy pondering about the purpose of conciousness, cause and effect or the fate of the universe, without any desire to learn about evolutionary biology, quantum mechanics or astrophysics, lost in a sea of pedantic discussions and millennia old teachings of 'what is truth' and 'what is beauty'. Enjoy :D

  • @JaySmith91

Your first and last lines betray your bias. Exactly how many philosophy graduates did you speak to? Will you invite each here for a discussion? Thought not.

Iran is now enriching uranium. Why? To what end? Should we be concerned? Does this purely scientific endeavor deserve a response? Sancitons? Military intervention? A stern talking to?

Science cannot answer these questions. Enjoy? My arse.

  • @JimLongo1 Your questions on how to act towards Iran aren't at all questions seeking objective truth thus fail as an example of reductio ad absurdum. You aren't genuinely asking me to invite strangers to a youtube comments section, just suggesting that I wouldn't... I don't see much point in that sentence.

  • I am interested in philosophy, both my parents were grade A students in philosophy. I even started writing my own philosophy when i was 13 and i still add on to it every day

  • You can find the information, at The jesus Christ Code dot com.

  • @ChadC919 the number five to Bahais means "the Most Merciful".

  • Philosophy is entering into it unknown territory.

  • Well, it pays my bills... Kidding aside, actually a lot of majors in philosophy gain employment in law, business and other sectors. Because of the portable skills of analytical thinking, writing, etc.

  • (sigh*)... im gonna say philosophy is amazing and i love it, i think much like a philosopher. but the inevitable truth is, it isn't rlly going to fill ur stomach job wise. and thats why logically im choosing engineering, boring, but it pays.

  • "Break it down for me".

    1) Free. Scratches head??

    2) 1.99 Cheap.

    3) 10.99 LOL.

    4) 19.99 interesting.

    5) 34.99 hmmm

    6) 49.99!!! HIGH CLASS!!

  • Great

  • Wonderful video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Funny how people always jump directly to the Greeks when it comes to philosophy. They never mention the worlds irst known philosopher Ghao Zong. They also never mention Siddhartha Gautama and Conucius.

  • Heres a simple yet tricky philosophical paradox for you thinkers to think about.

    "What if?...but then again"

  • Contemplation for input...--->

When people are living a life of intense questioning of their daily lives using common-sense rationality (with foundation of nature), people become more knowledgeable and understanding. We do not follow people but to use our own examination based on good and right, love and compassion, respect and non-violence. A simple straight forward life-style of just Farms for food, Water to drink, and Shelter to keep warm is the best lifestyle.

  • well, that's unfortunate, no?

  • I cannot be fazed.

  • i want to major in philosophy

  • So...It's humans who look at the world, and find what fits them the best, and how they will develop themselves and live in a way that will give them the most joy, security and 'knowledge'.The 'morals' go only so that humans won't tear each other apart in many many ways.Eventually, their end reasons- "how will the world work better for us and us to work better for ourselves".And by sure the Boredom, show that philosophy is rather shallow...just another act of self-preservation with a logical aspect.

  • @Wharwulif No, it's not about self preservation, its simply people who question things that regular people would never even dare to question. It's about examining things we cannot see. You just described the complete opposite of philosophy

  • @WheresMyElefant That's the boredom reason, which I stated.the people who do not dare to ask are either inside their own box,or they can't afford to stop and think. Those who do think do it for-Pleasure/boredom/a need to explain something wrong in life-like someone who lost something.BTW,examining things you cannot see will lead you nowhere, since humans are already blind to things they can see.Finding an answer to anything is just another way for humans to satisfy their lust to conquer everything.

  • @Wharwulif That's religion. Philosophy in many cases does not provide answers. Religion is often only believed because an individual truly believes in it, but in many cases it is only because it comforts them with answers to their problems. And honestly, philosophy probably gives you more problems/questions than answers, and the answers you get come from you, not other people. Thats what's so great about philosophy.

  • @WheresMyElefant The goal of philosophy is finding an answer to anything, religion is just a fast-food-answer.Finding more problems drives for the simple fact that it's an equation with endless answers, you cannot dwell upon the mechanics of the world, they got only gears to show, you can always look at each gear and see they are made of more gears and so on.I do not ask myself on mechanics like "where it comes from",but I asked-"what is the end result to the machine",and I already saw it very well

  • @Wharwulif Actually like he said in the video, there's different types of philosophy, and in many cases philosophers ask the question whether humans can find a universal truth, and whether its possible to make a "systematic scheme of lief" or whats right and wrong. Once again philosophy is not about the answers but more on questions (most of the time). But it doesn't have to be that way, as long as you belive that things are not what they seem to be, and you examine them, thats philosophy

  • @WheresMyElefant I finished my own examination of things, and my perception did see that things are not the way humans and nature look at them...The wish to plunder about many questions,or plunder upon strange answers drives from either curiosity,to a need to know,or...just some sort of exploration.Eventually,if you ask yourself why you ask things-It returns to my words-it develops in eras-with survive aspect, went to boredom after surviving, and developed into a near mission of exploring meanings.

  • @Wharwulif Yes, to me there is just something about examining what things are really like that I just love, even if I won't always get answers, it's simply who I am.

  • @WheresMyElefant Well, that urge comes like an instinct...not many have that type of instinct, but those who do-tend to see stuff. It's a kind of a trait coming back from the times humans had to ask themselves things for needs of explaining things they lost and increasing their survival.Like many of the human traits, this one also just turned into a pleasure-producer rather then a crucial need. You are lucky to at least get the most open minded one,Most people have the bad type of converted-traits.

  • @Wharwulif I know what you mean, I wish more people were like this you know? More open minded, more thoughtful, especially at my age there are but few that think like we do. I wish I had some friends that I could just chill with and talk to about philosophy, and of course there are those who try to pretend they like philosophy, but in reality have absolutely no idea on what philosophy is.

  • @WheresMyElefant You are right,it would have been better to have more people who take pleasure from this kind of thing, rather then running around humping everything with legs.Overall,I do not consider myself a Philosopher,Since I do not know how a "love'o'wisdom"is suppose to be like...But,I can argue over meanings of things...since it's always nice to have a living talk rather then complete fishit(better then saying bullshit)type of conversations or debates...damm,people today are busy hating.

  • @Wharwulif You sound like a philosopher to me, and many times I also wonder what it truly means to be a philosopher. If I am truly a philosopher, but then I think about the fact that I search for wisdom, I examine the world, and does it not make me a philosopher to question what it means to be one? After all, there is no wisdom without doubt and confusion.

  • @WheresMyElefant Well,I myself already found my answers and question...now,I just wonder on 1 funny thing...I wonder,if I will change my appearance(Drastic way that there is no going back after it)and I will come to actually like the way I look...will it make me selfish and change something from within?Or...Will I remain myself, only that I will actually like to look in the mirror without seeing the image of what I hate?...I fear that if I come to like my outside,it might change my inner self...

  • @Wharwulif That's more of a personal thing, and I'm not sure if any of us can really find the answer to that sort of question without it actually happening. I think it relies on whether if you are truly yourself before that happens, that's why it's important to really find who we are and what we believe in.

  • @WheresMyElefant You are right...best option is to take a leap of faith, see where it follows...thanks for that,I know it seems shallow...yet hey, after all the stuff that run in my mind...I deserve 1 shallow and simple thing to wonder about...Normally my mind just runs either this world or others every moment(self-aware imagination)...I tend to plunder and view at things from every possible direction I can...My mind was formed to behold as a shadow...yet what formed me,was thinking on what I see.

  • @Wharwulif It's very good that you are open minded, The one thing I really made a goal to keep trying to find the answer to is the subject of war. I plan on studying military technologies when I go to college, then join the military, probably try to get into special forces. People think I'm doing it for freedom, not even close, I'm doing it for philosophy, yet I still don't know why I'm doing this, it's just something at the back of my head. War is such a complex concept, yet part of humanity

  • @WheresMyElefant Sometimes to learn something, you need to become that something...it's like art in a way.I myself plan to learn psychology in order to both assist who ever needs guidance, and, study how to stop humans from being idiots(myself as the biggest idiot).Wars are generated by-Stupid conflict over fishit, need for resources, show of force(man waving dicks),Freedom from something,For the thrill of it,some agenda of hiding a reality by making commoners think of war(we take lots of space here)

  • @Wharwulif Yeah I'm gonna send you a msg because we are taking up lots of space haha

  • @Wharwulif Then instead of studying philosophy, study physics to solve the problem of the lack of resources. Say maximize and perfect solar panels, look into magnetism.

  • @darthmath2 Actually, that won't solve anything for the simple reason of increase in population growth-have more energy=have more people(expect them to control their needs?)Have more people, you will increase the need for power, therefor reaching a loop of Need energy, find energy, need more energy again.

Trust me...it's not just physics and philosophy,it's also all the rest =P

  • @Wharwulif

    That is why.

Study physics to surpass the demand for energy.

The earth only obtains approx 1 percent of the suns energy.

    Only 1 percent.

    Why not maximize it?

If we were to obatain a few seconds of 100 percent from the sun, it will last for thousands and thousands of years, even with the exponential demand.

And instead for harboring materials, it will be harder but more efficient to look for other means for energy. Like the complete solar, or look into magnetism.

  • @Wharwulif

And if they are later able to read genes at a low cost, making aging a thing of the past, people will wait longer to reproduce.

The longer we live, the less we are likely to reproduce. So it may be safe to say, soon this exponential rise of population make concave down, and be a natural logarithmic growth, slow and steady. Our energy crisis will one day be laughable by future generations.

  • @darthmath2 You forgot the Human factor(them being stupid and arrogant no matter what),the imbalance in society,Conflicts of nations and people over fishit, rich guys with cash having less income due to a sudden well-evolved way of gathering energy.

That is why you need to study EVERYTHING ells,to know every affect such a thing will do,just go and make endless energy supply will NOT solve anything,it will only make rich people to murder you,and use your idea for themselves has the rest suffers.

  • @WheresMyElefant War is a simple concept.

Nature must have strife. Even single cell organism attack each other.

Like viruses replicated themselves by destroying cells. (say the bacteriophage destroys bacteria to reproduce)

The ants defend themselves and have "war" with invaders.

Like the living mater that has conflict, we are no exception.

we have conflicts that are escalated with our emotions.

We put reason for the war, because we can.

  • @WheresMyElefant In other words,we did not contradict each other-I just was not specific on time line of the usage and meaning of plundering into philosophy, from when it first began as viewing patterns, and using them to survive better...to the end result of you looking at everything, and asking everything you can think of,or even better...of what your mind is missing.Philosophy can't speak to me anymore,Since I just saw a bit too much...and in such a short time really. It's better to ask then know

  • "Rustle os Spring" by Dubravka Tomsic.

  • Does anyone have the name of this beautiful song?

  • Not sure what you mean by "empty." If you have personal problems, for instance, then you may need to see a medical professional before talking to a philosopher. The two are not exclusive, since one can have a variety of existential issues, which need to be approached from multiple perspectives.

  • @MassimoPigliucci By empty I mean the fact that I'm confused about everything in life, because I'm questioning even the things that are normal to me, and I was confused. The confusion is actually decreasing and its getting better, I did as you said, I read everyday, discuss and think and it is getting better. Thanks man.

  • @MassimoPigliucci Empty is what the world is on it's inside-it's one large mechanism build on collisions of material and energies, and their many forms. If you look for a reason, you will start asking yourself "what is the reason that reason exist?" and so on...The eventual thing is to just look at the end result-and all you can find is a mechanism,a function...so,it's empty. But that empty side should not really concern humans,if you fear the empty inside-go see shaman, get hole in head, big hole.=D

  • It's perfectly normal to get confused about philosophy, especially at the beginning. Keep reading and discussing, things will get better.

  • @MassimoPigliucci Thanks, what bothers me the most is that I am confused about pretty much everything, even the things that i did (or still do) understand, yet what I am confused about is not a certain theory or a certain question, but more of a question or examination that I have in the back of my head that I havent examinated yet. And its hard to just think of philosophy overall right now honestly, is it also normal to feel empty during this stage?

  • @MassimoPigliucci

Physics and mathematics is my philosophy.

Why fumble around concepts that can be shown through mathematics and science?

Instead of making topics more complicated than they really are, they can be simplified to a short compact answer.

Honestly, philosophy is taken to literal these days.

I have no real respect for the subject.

But I find it important in ethics.

  • @darthmath2

Actually, mathematics and physics are both forms or 'branches' of philosophy. Socrates' method of examination is the same scientific method that has been used for over 2000 years. Indeed mathematics, physics, and every branch of science is important in understanding the world we live in. However, without studying philosophy (in the narrower sense of the word) AS WELL as the others, we are not looking at the bigger picture - and suffering is caused by ignorance.

  • Quick question someone, Im a 15 year old philosopher, is it normal for me to get confused about literally everything every now and then, and have a hard time thinking about philosophy, its like I gotta be in a certain mood, and every now and then I try too hard to think about philosophy and i get really confused when I try too hard. Im just wondering if it is normal for a philosopher to have a hard time thinking or get confused every now and then.

  • Meaning what, exactly?

  • Break it down for me.

  • Thank you very much for this video, it was very helpful

  • Shamanism is not a philosophy, it's mysticism. Yes, of course people were thinking before the Greeks, but - as far as we know - the Greeks were the first to systematically engage in what today we call philosophy. And they invented the word, too.

  • To say that the Greeks invented philosophy is to say they invented thinking and questioning... What about ancient cosmology, shamans, the ancient indians and egyptians?

Just saying, can't give Greeks 100% credit for something that has been going on since the dawn of intellectual man.

  • @awolikesguitars You're right but, the Milesian philosopher Thales was the one that was given the title of the first philosopher, maybe there was someone before him, but Thales really did spread it to his student Anaximander and so on, so he really opened a new area of thought.

  • I know some here dis the bible but alot of questions you pose on here I find in eclesiastes a book that king solomon wrote. I am always amazed at all the answers the bible has to my lifes questions. I find all my answers in Gods word. To me it's awesome that God would speak to us thru his word so Why doubt it Learn to love it!! Gods philosophy and wisdom will blow you away!!

  • Philosophy lead me to Soto Zen Buddhism. I was once a devout Christian, then I began to question religion in general. I gave up on Christianity and began to philosophize. After much pondering, I found that Soto Zen would help me find my personal answers in life. So far I've not found anything, and that makes me happy.

  • @estrelladembicer Thanks! :)

  • "Religion is nothing more than mankind's way of keeping humanity on a leash. It's the faith that counts." - Me. "To fear death is to fear life, for with life comes a promised death. Why fear the inevitable?" - Me. "One doesn't witness true beauty until they step out of the line of society, and question everything that is. The universe, life, existance, and reality. And then ask's life's most important questions. What am I? Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I? and Where am I going?" - Me

  • @SuckDeezNutzBitch brilliant! :)

  • @SuckDeezNutzBitch Many people will be angry when they find the answer to your questions is-Nothing.Religion is just a very smart way to make people NOT thinking, and just keep working-it's a way for people to deal with loses, problems and so on.Death and life are both horrible, just ask the creature you ate,you should fear life, not death.Beauty changes from eye to eye,and after seeing what everything is-beauty does not exist. And you answered all your questions-ME,that's the end goal of humanity.

  • i want to become a philosopher

  • I just finished writing a book about it. You may need to wait until it comes out, end of summer '12...

  • why dont we start a conversation here. i wil start it.

''in your opinion what is the meaning of life''

  • @ajbuddys to reproduce

  • What is Dying of old age? Is it Old age or an organ that failed during old age? Can you prove to me that the blood of an old person is "dying" therefore they are in the process of dying, not that we (a young person) are living but dying since birth.

  • @heartlessvietboy It is rather a biological question than a philosophical, though one can look at it philosophically I believe it would be an insolvable jumble of lost paths.

  • Things grow and age on Earth. They die and perish. They evaporate. Where did they go? I don't know. They can burn and "become fire" among other things. They no longer is Physical Form (Solid) but something unseen. We walk through them, they become soil and rocks. They become dust. Why we live 75 years and other animals at 17 years I don't know.

  • Yes, it is Lehman College.

  • Was that Lehman College? (3:25)

  • excellent primer on the nature and scope of philosophy!

  • If all x are y then all none x are none y so if all crows are black everything that is not black is not a crow

  • What matters is that we live a good life. We work to better the world. We dont harm a human soul. We take care of our environment. Why concern ourselves with things outside the human grasp until we can establish World Peace.

  • yup, and everything is everything. very deep.

  • @MassimoPigliucci Dont ya know that philosophy has been hidden from society and thats the reason things are so fucked up' its deep but its what we all know which is why religion is so fucking stupid

  • nothing is nothing

  • A very good short, relevant, concise and up to the date definition of Philosophy. I really like it.

  • A very good short, relevant, concise and up to the date definition of Philosophy. I reallty like it.

  • If philosophy was the universal religion imagine how far we'd be now.

  • what about it?

  • nihilism

  • There is no such thing as maturity. There is instead an ever-evolving process of maturing. Because when there is a maturity, there is a conclusion and a cessation. That’s the end. That’s when the coffin is closed. You might be deteriorating physically in the long process of aging, but your personal process of daily discovery is ongoing. You continue to learn more and more about yourself every day. Also Bruce Lee. "In everything in life we must flow like water "

  • one of my fav quote. Bruce Lee . it’s not how much you have learned, but how much you have absorbed from what you have learned. It is not how much fixed knowledge you can accumulate, but what you can apply livingly that counts. ‘Being’ is more valued than "doing".

  • thank you :]

  • stomachs don't know nothing, methinks

  • Does the stomach know the difference between warm water and cold water?

  • you might need to be more specific: biologically? from a human perspective? or what?

  • PLEASE GIVE ME A BIG AND GOOD DEFINITION OF LIFE.

  • I ask you guys to feel your surroundings as much as you can. Curbs, Cars, Nature, Cultures, Earth, Space, ETC.

  • Where does all the white go when the snow melts? Could you still sit down if your knees bent the other way?

  • I have no idea of what that could possibly mean.

  • In addition to the book Massimo recommended, "The Great Conversation: A Historical Introduction to Philosophy," is also very good. In various footnotes, Melchert explains how the ideas of a philosopher were influenced by a previous philosopher, and he'll give you the page to flip back to, to compare their ideas.

  • The musical piece is "Rustle os Spring" by Dubravka Tomsic.

  • Comment removed

  • book recommendation: Twenty Questions: An Introduction to Philosophy, edited by G. Lee Bowie et al.

  • Why would that matter? Would you be asking the same question about, say, literary criticism? Or music?

  • I THINK WE MUST KNOW THE DEFINITION OF LIFE¸BEFORE TO DIE.

  • Does philosophy have any scientific merit?

  • yes any book recommendations would be great!

  • good intro man...

  • I wish I had friends that I can sit around with & just have the deepest fukin intellectual, mind fucking, out of the box conversations with & just get into philosophical debates & share theories... where are all these cool/smart/open minded people? Why is everybody a typical Alyssa Lala-ziano & Joey Bro-liano.. I find it so hard to believe that SO MANY people are completely uninterested in anything other than alcohol

  • @BscarfaceM

Well for starters, your opening sentence merely propagated that which you claim to loath. Varying fuck as the adjective describing your ideal conversation was not helping.

In accordance to finding people that are of the caliber you seek may be reached out of your age group. College students tend to start growing out of the drunken phase a little later. There are, of course, bound to be blogs spaces and chat rooms dedicated to philosophy.

    Hope this helps.

  • @stone2125 Youve never heard of the saying mindfucking? Im not talking about conversations with squares who are afraid of curse words, so if your one of them this post was not directed at you or people like you. thanks anyway

  • Claim to Loath? What does that mean?

  • @BscarfaceM I know exactly how you feel man haha

  • @BscarfaceM Sound like you hang around only the drinking crowd the best crowd for philosophy are weed smokers. God forbid it is ever legalzed everyone mey think beyond there normal barriers.

  • @BscarfaceM I'm 15 and share you need.

  • @BscarfaceM I know your pain lol, if it helps you in anyway, maybe try joining a couple of museums/art galleries, you don't have to abandon your freinds, you'll just be creating a new group that you can hang with when you need brain food, it's working for me :)

  • @BscarfaceM i love u right now

  • @BscarfaceM I, luckily, have friends like that. Make NERDY friends. They are much more interesting to keep around.

  • @BscarfaceM I'm in the same boat, man, I'm realizing some are more conscious than others. Some of us want to exercise our minds, but most are too enveloped in their material lives to be curious about things. It's frustrating I know, but satisfying when you find someone that can keep up with you.

  • @jaimekeg I too have noticed this. I find myself asking questions constantly in my mind and I feel I am far beyond the vast majority mentally and philosophically. Not to sound like a self absorbed douchebag, but I think I'm just deep it seems you guys are too. Im open to new ways of thinking. The meaning of life, purpose, those around us, social weirdness, the paranormal, religion, space, time!!!!!!!!!!!! If you all want feel free to add me on here. I think the world is in dire need of thinkers.

  • @BscarfaceM you belong in higher education if you aren't already there.

  • @BscarfaceM Right here.

  • @BscarfaceM Thats how I felt but me and my friend (both 15yrs) meet up at like a subway or something and just talk about life, funny shit, memories and just philosophical things and we wind up being in subway for about 3 to 4 hours just from the convos. Its amazing how beyond our mind's capabilities we go when we do.

  • @BscarfaceM lol i've got a friend that thinks the same way, i feel ya man

  • @BscarfaceM because a third of the worlds population is retarted.

  • @BscarfaceM I know what you mean man, even my few friends that I can have philosophical conversations with, they are still ignorant as hell... I wish I had philosopher friends haha

  • @BscarfaceM

I don't really find Philosophy all that interesting.

Instead I look for people to share mathematical concepts with.

Math to me is a greater philosophy.

The language of our universe, for reasons not entirely know.

derivatives, integrals, differential equations, n dimensions, its all good.

In my mathematics class, i just leave the room and go deep into the partial derivatives, with their space curves.

    Physics is just amazing too.

    Natures philosophers.

  • @darthmath2 Pythagoras was a philosopher who based his beliefs around mathematics, you might like him.

  • @darthmath2

Many great philosophers were also great mathematicians (Rene Descartes, Pythagoreus, Bertrand Russell, etc). Philosophers have historically loved math, because it depends on abstract concepts which train your mind to think outside of the practical world. It also involves thinking very precisely. The two are highly related.

  • Great job :)

  • "So, what is Philosophy?"

That is, itself, a philosophical question.

  • depends on how you would try to do it

  • If I said I know how to change the world would you believe me?

  • @PhilosopherFigwig can u give some book names i should read on ethic

  • @PhilosopherFigwig can u give some book names i should read on ethic

  • I'm not sure what that means.

  • I want you guys to "break it down" for me. Your experiences. Your truths. What you went through in life.

  • Nice overview, thanks!

  • The word “philosophy” comes from the Greek word “philosophia” which means “love of wisdom.” My simple concept of wisdom is: Knowledge + Experience + Virtue = Wisdom. I feel all philosophers should have Knowledge about the primary principles common to all Life and social systems. See my channel video.

  • Was Socrates a Politician?

  • @tnguyen318

    no

  • Philosophy is my dong!

  • Calling all philosophers, come participate in the effort to find, define and spread the truth. Go to TruthContestDOTcom and check it out. Read the top entry called The Present.

  • Perhaps parents are a bit ignorant about these sorts of things?

  • Philosophy is one of the top 20 jobs? Why are parents so disappointed when their children go into philosophy?

  • I always theorized that philosophy is merley a highly intelligent logical sense of the world combined with commen sense and an open mind...My favorite quote.

All matter is merley energy condensed into a slow vibration, that we are all one conciounce experiencing itself subjectivley, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves

    -bill hicks

  • There are plenty of good books about philosophy, accessible to the public, that you could read instead of embarking in formal education. Or you could take occasional continuing education courses in philosophy at a local college.

  • @MassimoPigliucci Hi there. I've read some stuff by Dan Dennett, but he's more into cognitive philosophy. Where would I start reading existential philosophy? Could you recommend any basic books one has to have read?

  • what books can you recommend??@MassimoPigliucci

  • My goal in life is to gain Wisdom, my favorite thing to do is wonder, and this video has listed a great amount of what i wonder about? How can i be a philopher* without doing any years of school =/ ...

  • philosophy is the core of human thinking.

  • Philosophy is the rationalizing of things.. it is the thinking of things.. it is the questions in things..every one is a philospher... but is that statement itself not a philosophy?

  • @4everRobin You my freind..get philosophy ;)

  • @Dude11191 lol... I dislike how poeple put evreything into catogoreis... so i dont. and thats why i put that comment lol.. and you seem to get philosophy as well becaus eu recognize it.

  • @4everRobin Thanks to you

  • @Dude11191 lol

  • Philosophy is not an invention its a way of life, to think, exchange ideas and ideals.

    I drink, therefore I pee...

  • @RETRlBUTION let's give them an example of what a philosophical discussion would go like. ok you say you drink therefore you pee, but what if you drank because you peed. you drink to replace the water your body lost after urination? lol

  • @RETRlBUTION No shit Sherlock!

  • This video triggered a random thought. Philosophy is science before accurate instruments, measurements, and the scientific method. If those things had been available I'm sure Socrates would have used them.
