always ben interested in pedal steel since gerry garcia and workingmans dead album, then neil young, and J Taylor, then marshall tucker. Now that Im older Im really sorry I missed all these people growing up....I play guitar as well as drums and always want to learn
@BerkLeeDrm Get a steel now!! It takes a lifetime to learn the instrument, and what can be done on it is endless. It'll keep you on your toes and forever wanting to improve your playing! Feeling is such a huge part, besides the technicalities,etc.. The tone B. Emmons gets ,and the slides w/ the volume pedal are simply , amazing! That ain't easy!
Really hate to ask this but what brand steel is he using in this video? Buddy makes it the best.
This is kind of like the Ellvis story , about Roy Orbison, Elvis told his producer "if you ever put me[Elvis] on the same stage as Roy, ""you're fired"".
@LLuE88 Those EMCI guitars are TONE MONSTERS, they are some of the best sounding all pull guitars ever made in my opinion.........but alas "NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING HAS THE TONE OF A PUSH/PULL!!!!!!
Well shoot, not matter how hard I try, voting often doesn't work, LOL, The best on this instrument. back in the days he was with Texas Troubadours [ Earnest Tubb] and Cherokee Cowboys [Ray Price] he was so gracious to allow me to watch him [on stage or next to it] play and maybe ask a question now and then in between the songs or intermissions.
Sometimes the Big E makes me wonder why psgs even come with the C pedal... love this version. It's all tabbed out in Expedition E9 if any of you all want to learn it, it's actually very accessible - but playing it with as much soul as Buddy is another matter... thanks for posting this beautiful clip.
Bill Bailey's idol...I can see & hear why that is...if you ever pass through Kingman AZ? Go see "The Bill Bailey Band'... Bill will remind you of the great Buddy Emmons...FIVE STARS...
Well Bill, I told tou I would post a great big thank you for these awesome videos you provide for us, after I viewed the entire video, so here it is "Thanks Bill", now its off to see if I can figure out how Buddy uses the left going left knee lever so delightfully expressive.
Epic!!!

Sorry, Bill - I saw Brent, then posted too quickly - sure enough, there was his name at the end!
These videos you post are such a blessing; thank you very much!!!!

Surely the best volume-pedal technique in the history of the World!!!
Isn't that Brent Mason on Buddy's right? A pretty scary band, I'd say!!!!

Yep, watch for the credits after the video. All the players are listed.

Just how great can one player be ???
This has to be one of the most beautiful of all the "steel songs" I have ever heard and I have been listening for 58 years.
This is what it is supposed to sound like.

Wow! And just when you think you are getting smooth you see this and realize just how far you still have to go!
Thanks for the post Bill!
