  • Thank you so much for the reply.

I watched the "Snakeman Theme" video with him and he is still wants to go with the GRX.

    Wonderful video!

With the money saved, I can get him a better amp to go with it instead of the $15 one he has been stuck using.

I understand what you mean about the thinner neck being faster. I never thought about the tremelo bar getting in the way, but you are right.

Thank you again for the great advice.

  • No problem, I'm glad I could help :). I think you'll be more than happy with the GRX. I plan on keeping mine for a nice long time.

Also, thanks for the compliments :).

  • I went to talk to the local music store about ordering the GRX into the store. They said they had a RG350MDX. Price tag said $533, but they said they would bring it down to $275.

    What do you think?

It's still under my $400 budget and I could still spend the rest and better amp. But if there is not much difference then I can stay with GRX.

  • The price drop for him being a student there and having a membership card.

  • I'll send you a message to your youtube inbox so I can go into more detail :).

  • One question, what amp do you use?

  • Hey, sorry for the long response time.

Hmm, it's been a long time since I made this vid so I'm not actually sure of the exact model anymore. All I can say is that it was a Crate 120 watt, came with built in effects, and it was a somewhat older model (probably late 90s/ early 2000s). You could probably get it for around 50 bucks these days.

  • Wonderfully played, fantastic clarity!

My 10 year old son plays Fender Bronco Bass for 2 years, focus on slap+tap funk.

He now wants an electric. He watched Bootsy Collins, Flea and Les Claypool on youtube before choosing his first guitar as bass.

So I played this video for my son.

It sold him on your Ibanez GRX20Z.

Both my son and my bank account thank you!!

Classmate told him you have to have $12,000 Gibson to sound good. Classmate can't play any instruments but full of opinions.

  • Oh wait! This video was actually done using my old ESP LTD MH-200 guitar. It goes for around $420 these days I believe, while my current guitar (the GRX) is a starter guitar at around $150. Sorry for the confusion.

Honestly though, I would still suggest getting that GRX for your son. It's got a much thinner neck, better sounding humbuckers and you don't have the annoying floating trem to worry about :P - I love it. If you want to hear it in action, watch my "snakeman theme vid". Thanks :)

  • Not to mention, the GRX is much, much cheaper in comparison :).
