  • WATCH... SO... MEN???

    *joker wink wink*

  • BECAUSE I know what you really look like Kaleb that "MUAH MUAH MUAH" to your dog became an incredibly hilarious moment.

I didn't get to see Watchmen yet. I'm definitely excited now to see it Tuesday, because you're a very hard critic when it comes to movies.

  • No no, it's not that I'm a hard critic, I just have strange tastes (usually). It was a really good movie though, and I can't wait for the Extended Cut to come out on DVD and Blu-Ray.

  • it was great, and i also cant wait for the blu ray

  • I will admit,I am one of those Harry Potter geeks who compare it to the books but at the same time I look at them as films and not as adaptations. And there are moments when I think "thats wrong,it didnt happen but it was epic so who cares".I think movies that are based off of books should be looked at as movies and not adaptations.

  • Whenever anyone goes to see a movie based on something that they hold in high regard, there's going to be alot of comparisons... though I think it's unfair to the film. For example, I thought Order of the Phoniex was a good movie even though they cut out a good portion of the book. I agree though, they should be looked at as stand alone products. If you don't like the film, you'll always have the book.

  • the movie was def accurate to the book

  • I was transported to a far away land,

to a world where monster's rule.

Play the game like an ace,

    now we're in this place,

to save the monsters from the evil Moo.

My dad really liked this movie and say it as a good story, not a good comic book movie, a great story in general. so it did it's job and got my dad interested in reading my copy of Watchmen in his spare time. So it's good to anyone but fanboys of the comic.

  • and i agree I was growning at the sex scene because Silk Specter was soooooo bad that Sally seemed decent and Dr. Manhattan seemed like a genius at work, and Rorschach is god.

let them show the mystery disc,

we'll take it too the shine.

then we unseal that fabled mystery disc,

    and unleash the phoenix inside.

  • Don't get the wrong the idea from the last comment; I still like this movie.

  • I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. I kinda felt bad that SPOLIERS(?) Rorschach butcher the kidnapper's head with a knife instead of covering him in kerosene and setting him on fire. That's my favorite part of the book.

  • That scene did seem to be a bit much... it was almost like Synder was kind of like "lets throw in some gore!"

  • Just want to state that it was David Hayder and Alex Tese who adapted the story, he was the writer. I thought it was good, I think Zach Snyder fucked up a bit of it, but it was good. I think Alan Moore will still hate the shit out of it, but it did a good job. I really disagree on the ending of it to be honest.

  • :) Well, to each their own I suppose. I personally thought the ending was the strongest point of the film (as well as the book).

  • Well I saw Watchmen this evening, and I thought it was excellent and so did my dad (who hasn't read the graphic novel yet). I didn't actually have a problem with Silk Spectre's acting, though I suspect I just don't notice bad acting and get easily absorbed in the story. I thought the modified ending was good (in fact my brother said he prefered it the the end of the graphic novel).

  • Wow, geez could you quote what I said earlier anymore? Yes I do think that this is Watchmen Lite. Like you said it's not The Dark Knight, but it should be if the feeling and themes from the book were adapted correctly. Also, the ending to me felt very one sided, where as in the book both parties had a reasonable rational.

  • XD Ooooohh buuuurrrnnn! For me personally, I don't think an adaptation of the graphic novel, even if it were done precisely, would have been up to the same quality as The Dark Knight. If it were to be done to that quality, I would be shocked. :) I honestly think, all nit-picking besides, that this is a very good adaptation (one of the best I've seen in a very long time). Watchmen is a hard book to pull off, and I think they did a great job (not a perfect job, but still great).

  • I didn't say it should be "better" then The Dark Knight, I meant it should be on the same thought provoking level as The Dark Knight was.

  • If we're talkilng about thought-provoking.. to be honest, I think it's on the same level the way it is. Infact, to be entirely honest, I would think the ending to this film would be a bit more a conversation starter than the one to Dark Knight (even though I personally think Dark Knight is a superior film).

  • Spoiler:

Not really the movie made Adrian look more evil then rational. He just comes off as a generic guy gone evil. Dr. Manhattan was messed with to much that at the end his emotions were going up and down too much. And that thing they did with Night Owl II (although very interesting) kind of left a strange taste in my mouth.

  • How are these flaws you're pointing out make the film any less thought provoking? I do agree with alot of what you're saying (though I disagree with the statement about Adrian), but how does making Dr. Manhattan more human and tweaking Night Owl II make the film any less thought-provoking?

  • No it was really the Adrian thing. It just didn't make it feel as though he was the only one who found a way to avoid WWIII. They hardly touched on his background and the plot just didn't come together as well as the comic book did at the end. I know you don't like comparing the two, but this was BASED on the book if they didn't want comparisons they should have just made an original movie.

  • It is based on a book, but that doesn't mean that stands on its own. A book is a great book.. I personally prefer to look at adaptations as a director's take on the source matieral. There are a ton of great movies that are 'based' on books (and other forms of media) that are barely faithful at all, but are still great movies. That being said, I do understand where you're coming from.

  • And therefore I win. Bret-1 GLB-0. Great conversation.
