  • This song is too beautiful for words!!! Every time I hear it I cant help but be happy & have a smile on my face!!!! ♥

  • great tunes from the gettin smile in japanese lp & the dutch album ghost of a smile i got the both in my queen collection great i love smile

  • Why Queen never re-made this song later on, I'll never understand. It sounds like something that ol' Freddie could've sang the hell outta, and the operatic harmonies would not have ruined the vibe for sure!

  • great song

  • my dear freddie i miss u

  • @portugal2781 freddie isnt even in the band smile

  • Step On Queen

  • how the hell did they not become famous????beautiful song!

  • I was reading an article that documents the history of the members pre-Queen, and it said that Tim's voice was identical to Freddie's on this song and "Doing Alright". I don't think they sound that similar, I mean Freddie's voice back then was higher and dare I say it, a bit more... girlish?

But this dude was clearly talented in his own right as a singer. And I do agree that Brian and Roger should have called up Tim and reformed Smile as oppose to doing Queen + Paul Rodgers.

  • Staffell has a good voice. Seriously. I mean he's no Freddie, but I think it's rather impressive!

  • This should have been on Queen, I think it's one of the best Queen songs I've hears

  • Amazing songs by Smile omg

  • i think smile is a real under appreciated band. just goes to show that the other members of queen were really talented despite not having freddy mercury.

  • nice song i like it>

  • è davvero bella step on me, e tim staffel ha una voce fantastica!

lo stile queen è inconfondibile in questa canzone :)

  • I loves Staffel's voice! Not the greatest, but it's still really unique.

  • it reminds me of beatles's songs,i dont know why :D

  • i think it's cause it smells (good) of late 60's ;D

  • who was this written by? Just Tim Staffel?

  • This was a May/Staffel song(:

  • It would be great to have a Smile reunion, with a project album, new songs. Tim Staffel's style is certainly closer to Queen than Paul Roger is... But 40 years passed. Tim Staffel remains a very good singer, but the voice changed a lot. It sounds far more bluesy now, broken. In 69 it sounded so young, simply rock'n'roll, rythmically straight, oddly close to the early Freddie's voice (compare Smile and Queen/Queen II). So yes, let's hope a return of Smile, but it'll be different.

  • dude i totally agree. That would be great.

  • Staffel's voice maybe bluesy, but so is Rodgers..Staffel would suit Queen better than Rodgers.

  • Bear in mind that he sounds a lot different these days - in other words he's closer now to Paul Rodgers actually.

  • Happy birthday freddie.

  • Queen and Paul Rodgers should break up. There is NO Queen without Freddie and John, So Smile should reunite:D then we can have songs like this again:D

  • Queen and Paul Rodgers did break up

  • They don't technically go under the label "Queen" anymore, it's sort of a side project of the remaining members of Queen. And they broke up back in May

Plus I actually liked Q+PR anyway

  • I agree. Queen haven't played together since No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young). Queen in Queen+PR is just a name in stead a new band name. It's just safer to stick to the old, successful name Queen. I didn't like Paul Rodgers taking Freddie's place, but he didn't. He just sang his new band's songs together with his band. Queen+Paul Rodgers was actually a very good band. Smile is also one of my favorite bands of all time. But let's all agree that Queen is the best, most unique band ever!

  • You made a very good statement here - 100% agreed.

  • @Sgtpepper212 you are right

  • Is it a piano in here? Who played it? Brian May?

  • That is a piano we hear here. Could have been Brian. Tim or Roger even. Could also have been just someone working at Trident - an engineer or mixer or what-not.

  • This is my favorite Smile song. I love it.

  • Es la primera vez que lo escucho pero es Freddie Mercury el que canta?

  • No, es Tim Staffel, el cantante de Smile. Freddie se les unió luego, cuando Smile se disolvió

  • nao é o freddie..

  • wow tim has a really good voice!! of course he's not like freddie but who is anyway? :)

  • Tim Staffell :p

  • I know Tim did the vocals on Doing All Right, but this sounds more like Brian on lead, rather than Tim. Possible?

  • Comment removed

  • no its Tim

  • Early queen freddie tried to imitate tims voice somewhat, he even admitted, especially on doing alright.

  • yeah i can hear that !!

  • oh this is great but Freddie was better but they are great!!!! I cant complain on something good right?

  • This song would beat any of The Beatles songs any day of the week. The Beatles who the fuck are they oh ya there are a shower of bedweters

  • "May the spirit of John Lennon leave surprise in your sister's victory garden." - Carnac the Magnificent

  • Always sound like the beatles to me. My little brother mistake Tims voice for Freddie's. Tim you have an amazing voice!

  • who wrote this?

  • Tim Staffell and Brian May did.

  • r they still selling this album?

  • There are still 3 CDs with this songs on them: "Gettin' smile", "Queen in Nuce" and "Ghost of a smile".

  • The Singer has a good voice, bu not as good as Freddie

  • Nobody can be as good as Freddie!!

  • This is amazing!

  • the lyrics u posted are kinda off

but i love this song xD

  • buen tema

  • fantastic song!!! it reminds me a little bit of beatles just better..

  • Thanks for posting these Smile songs! Step on me is so catchy - I could listen to it a million times is a row :D Ten points.

  • Queen, BEFORE Freddie Mercury, unfreaking believable, and still distinctly Queen sounding with the May guitar..Wow

  • E X C E L E N T !

  • step on Queen =)

    this song is amazing!!

  • Wow this cool,

  • I'd like to see this song brought back - even for just one night - with Brian on lead vocals.

  • Yes. And I agree with you he has a great voice for this song.

  • Thank you!! i'm was finding something of smile. Hey, Tim staffel sings really good!! very similar to freddie.

  • This is a great song, best by Smile in my opinion, had this for a few years now and have always loved it.Not to sure about him singing for Queen, although would definetly be interesting to hear them together now.

More of the fans I think would of prefered Tim but Paul Rodgers is a bigger name.

  • Qué chingonería de canción.

  • esto es increible mucho mejor que el nuevo "Queen + pR"

  • This is fascinating...definately 'Killer Queen' in embryo, its got the same beat, similar guitar and drum phrasing, we obviously owe a lot to Tim

  • Dave, i think you've made a mistake in the lyrics; Tim said "been asleep from all the journeys a little while" and not " been asleep for more than just a little while"

    ... but i'm wrong too ..

  • but maybe i'm wrong too i meant

  • RedSpecial-yeah you were wrong. Dave had it right. But I can see where you got that idea though.

  • That's quite odd, cos it really seems like he's saying "from all the journeys" !!

Well, never mind what he said, it doesn't change the fact that the song is GREAT !! ^^

  • even the sense, it's quite logical "for more than just a little while"

mmm... maybe i've heard it wrong because i'm not english :S

  • how did you get that song

  • I'm in love with Tim's voice !!!

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

    I can't stop listening to it !

(but i still prefer Freddie of course!)

But Tim's voice has something special...

  • I'd like to hear Tim Staffell sing Queen songs!

    besides Doing Alright of course.

  • Tim Staffell should be the new lead singer with Queen without question.

  • Well, as long as he still sounds alright. This was 40 years ago remember :P

  • LOVE THAT SONG !!!!!!

  • with classicrockrockz

  • Tim staffell is much a smoother and better voice he is an ass to leave the band

  • I know what you mean, but its a blessing in disguise if you get Freddie instead.

  • Tim Staffell should be the new lead singer and bassist instead of Paul Rodgers being singer

  • yup... and the band should be called SMILE not Queen.. Queen does not exist without Freddy!!

(would really be nice to see Smile back)

  • I entirely agree !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song thou i dont like where they reapt the last verse again

  • Did BRIAN play bass on these tracks???

  • Tim did.

  • I hate to correct you.. well.. actually I do like to do that, but this is Tim Staffel singing.

  • And I must add that no one is better than Freddie :p Staffell is good, but he has another voice. And I think that without Freddie they wouldn't be so famous, there wouldn't be piano and fairy tales and so othet. But I like Stafflell voice in Smile ;)

  • Another voice? Actually Freddie was taken to the band because his voice was so similar to Tim. Unlike Tim he didn`t play bass so they had to take extra bass player too.

  • E, I can't speak so vell in English, so I can't write everything I want too. I think Freddie has another voice, maybe it's cause that 3,5 octave, I can't explain in English. And Staffell can't play piano I think. Anyway if there won't be Freddie we probably can't hear about John Deacon.

  • what even talking about sounds nothing like freddie

  • why is paul singing in the new queen? why isn't tim singing. god he's really good. i think he could fill freddie's shoes. not exactly but ya kno what im trying to say

  • Tim Staffell is really good here! 10x better than Paul Rodgers, at least.

  • of course he is

he is the best singer i know after freddie

to bad they never sang in the same band...

  • Wasen't this song on the Queen record In Nuce?

  • Yeah but he did write this song...right?

So I assumed that he played piano...I mean could Tim even play piano? And Roger wasn't that good of a keyboardist at this point. So it's either Brian or a session keyboardist...

  • well it was written during their time with 1984 were i thought i saw somewhere that it was written by tim and brian. that is most likely who wrote it other dispute on writing credits was blag which had liner notes that said Roger Taylor but brian said he wrote it.

  • Freddie is the best singer ever

    but Tim is also great!

  • Clapton's influence... Brian got eventually more and more rid of it!

  • great song great band :)

  • Go May! :)

  • This is sooooooo awesome!! Thank you, Dave. You rock!!!! xo

  • if brian and roger wanted to make music after freddie died, y didnt they get back with this guy.. Smile is Sweet!!

  • Queen in Nuce

  • which is the name of the album

  • i heart this song!!!

  • Now it's so good I won't waste my time

On a two year old picture of you

  • in love with that!

  • COOL!

  • Grool!

  • great song!
